I recall that segment regarding what movies made a profound impact on today's celebrities. Many were naming the usual classics, "Wizard of Oz" etc. When Brad Pitt's turn came up and he mentioned "War of the Gargantuas", I thought it was A) WOW!!! and B) Honest and refreshing!

Your Shakespearean analysis didn’t bore me in the least bit, my man. In fact, it was freaking awesome! It’s always so great to hear fellow users attempt to explore, interpret and explain classic daikaiju eiga through a more philosophical perspective. It’s something I try to do with my retrospectives, and I’ve even gotten some decent feedback about it from my followers.
Analyses like this are what help to amplify my enjoyment of these pieces of art, a number of which I believe are overlooked gems because people only try to view them as movies about monsters going around and destroying stuff.
Thank you very much for this great video, Firewood Media!

Wow. Spot on analysis. Toho was at their peak with War of The Gargantua's. Worst case of sibling rivalry ever committed to film. Worst lounge act of all time. Aside from that giggle, this one scared me as a kid. That woman's dress getting spat out gave me nightmares. You don't have to reach that deep, to get meaning out of the best of Godzilla and pals. Along with Daimajin 1 and 3, I sat my mom down once, to watch Godzilla vs Mothra 92'. There is no denying the power of the Daimajin movies. It was pure joy to hear my mom praise G vs Mothra. The big sell for her was the music, the twins and the story behind their civilization. These three elements made the monster stuff "Interesting", and gave the story purpose. I'll never forget that viewing experience.

More of a Cain and Abel story which is older than any Shakespeare play

I watched that version there. It's the Japanese version with an inferior to English dub. Inferior to the original English dub.

@@louisborselio8608 The International version is the original English dub commissioned by Toho and it's a direct translation of the Japanese version. The American dub was done a few years later for its release in 1970.

@@sjdrifter72 That's interesting info. Thank goodness saner heads prevailed and gave us a dub with better voice actors.

Criterion product sold outside the US, because of middle man distributors, has become quite pricey. Outside of their Godzilla catalogue I don't think they'd have any interest in rights for a "WOTG" Blu-ray. There was an expectation after they landed Godzilla rights that Criterion would pursue a licence for "Rodan" as well and so far, nothing has materialized for it either. The rights to both have been available for a long time now and no one has optioned them. The same situation exists for "Atragon", "Dogora", "The Mysterians", "Matango", "Space Amoeba", "Varan", "Latitude Zero", "War In Space", "Sayonara Jupiter", "The Telegian: and "Gorath" with the last two titles never having had any form of North American legit physical media release. Boutique distributors like Arrow, Shout Factory, Mill Creek or SRS Cinema might be better bets since those four labels still release Kaiju / Tokusatsu titles from time to time.

On an adult observation I find this breakdown of WAR OF THE GARGANTUAS very interesting. Hell, I was in seventh grade in 1970 when this was aired on television and all the kids in school including myself were grossed out when the Green Giant ate the woman and spit out her dress. I haven't seen or thought about this flick in ages, no its not exactly the story of Cain & Abel, but it's a epic story of a Carnivore versus a Vegan. 👹 Amazing & Enlightening Posting !

Typical? Far from typical dude. I first saw in in January of 1972, on a local TV airing, which hyped it up for over a month leading up to the actual airing. It was a new package of films and the Gargantuas was the first one they played, on a Friday night, in primetime no less. The Godzilla films came after, but the Gargantuas was rated higher. Great special effects and monster design. Again, far from typical.
