Aramaic (Classical Syriac: ܐܪܡܝܐ Aramaya) is a family of languages or dialects, belonging to the Semitic family. More specifically, it is a part of the Northwest Semitic subfamily, which also includes Canaanite languages such as Hebrew and Phoenician. The Aramaic script was widely adopted for other languages and is ancestral to both the Arabic and modern Hebrew alphabets.
During its over 3,000 years of written history,[2] Aramaic has served variously as a language of administration of empires and as a language of divine worship. It was the lingua franca of the Neo-Assyrian Empire, Neo-Babylonian Empire and Achaemenid Empire, the day-to-day language of Yehud Medinata and of Judaea (539 BC - 70 AD), the language that Jesus probably used the most,[3][4][5] the language of large sections of the biblical books of Daniel and Ezra, and is the main language of the Talmud and Syriac Christianity, in particular the Assyrian Church of the East, the Chaldean Catholic Church, the Ancient Church of the East, the Saint Thomas Christian Churches in India, the Syriac Orthodox Church and the Maronite Church.[6] However, Jewish Aramaic was different from the other forms both in lettering and grammar. Parts of the Dead Sea Scrolls are in Jewish Aramaic showing the Jewish lettering, related to the Hebrew script. Aramaic was also the original language of the Bahrani people of Eastern Arabia.[7]
Aramaic's long history and diverse and widespread use has led to the development of many divergent varieties, which are sometimes considered dialects, though they are distinct enough that they are sometimes considered languages. Therefore, there is not one singular, static Aramaic language; each time and place rather has had its own variation. Aramaic is retained as a liturgical language by certain Eastern Christian churches, in the form of Syriac, the Aramaic variety by which Eastern Christianity was diffused, whether or not those communities once spoke it or another form of Aramaic as their vernacular, but have since shifted to another language as their primary community language.
Modern Aramaic is spoken today as a first language by many scattered, predominantly small, and largely isolated communities of differing Christian, Jewish, and Mandean ethnic groups of West Asia[8]-most numerously by the Assyrians in the form of Assyrian Neo-Aramaic and Chaldean Neo-Aramaic-that have all retained use of the once dominant lingua franca despite subsequent language shifts experienced throughout the Middle East. The Aramaic languages are now considered endangered.[9]

Suret, also called Assyrian because its spoken by Assyrian Christians, is an Eastern Syriac Dialect, while Surayt (Suryoyo/Turoyo) is a Western Syriac Dialect. But all These Dialects are Neo-Aramaic Dialects and one language. This language is spoken by Assyrian/Chaldean/Syriac Christians in the middle east and in the Diaspora. A Holy language, and These Christians are keeping this Holy language of Jesus Christ alive!

Proud of what? Of the few people that their language is being forgotten or dying? How many people converted to christianity in your country? Isn’t christianity a missionary religion and inviting people to the christ? But instead most of the Syric/Assyrian churches not getting bothered inviting and converting people to become chrisritian insteat the treat chrisitianty like jews only by blood! If you’re not Assyrian you’re not welcome! For example they even in bad relationships with their brothers christians like the Chaldean! And so much that I don’t know!

There are no 'Assyrians'. All Aramaic speaking Christians are Arameans. If you open your forefathers books written by your own people in Turoyo or Sureth as you speak. You wil find no Othuroyo/ Aturaya (Assyrian name) in Aramaic (Syriac). You really need to brainwash our people to your anti-Christ identity. All Syriac or Aramean historians wrote about Arameans (Oromoye/ Aramaye). Even in the video you know about the bishop in Germany. He says: I saw the word Aramean and our churchfathers under it listed. And if all Syriac/ Aramaic literature, historians, church fathers said Syriacs are Arameans and never 'Assyrian' why are you calling yourself 'Assyrian'? Stop brainwash our people and read your history in the language you speak..

The Universal Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch also made it's presence in India (Kerala aka Malankara); it is believed that in the 1600s, a re-establishment of this church, doctrine and tradition took place in Malankara after the St. Thomas Syrian Christians (Indians in Kerala) revolted against the Portuguese and the Roman Catholic Church, since they invaded and tried to destroy the Syriac Christian faith and beliefs only to be replaced by Roman Catholicism. The Christians of India in Malankara make up part of the early Church, by the visitation of St. Thomas (Mor Thoma) and his evangelization of small Jewish community and local gentiles (hindus).

This is the same type of variant of Aramaic in the Targum Neophiti and the Aramaic fragments of the Dead Sea scrolls. The original autobiographs of the New Testament were originally written in Judeo-Greek and later translated into Syriac more than 5 centuries later.

Thank you! Please see my short documentary under 'marykfilms' on You Tube: "Overcoming Spiritual Hurdles of Orthodox Christianity." It examines some of the unknown history and reason for icons in the church (against the backdrop of O.T. prohibition of images), and it examines the some of the unknown history and prophetic significance of the Virgin Mary to the church and to the world. Thanks, again.

Ashur and caldo were brother's and one went north and one went South so the ones who followed Caldo are called Chaldeans and the others who followed Ashur are called Assyrian. We are all Assyrian but Chaldeans some Chaldeans don't want to accept that. And that's why we have no land to call our own just imagine if we were one how much more power we would have plz don't misunderstand me I love all Chaldeans because at the end of the day we are all one.

it's Assyrian language or the Neo-Aramaic language :) Don't forget there're Western and Eastern Aramaic languages, they have small differences :) You can find Lord's prayer in Arameen (Aramaic) and compare it to the same of the Assyrian language, so this language is closer to Assyrian, not the pure ancient Aramaic which was used by Jews for Zohar book etc :)

@@Emsyaz Wrong, Allah is not a proper name. Plus God does not need a proper name because he is a ONE and ONLY. Calling him by a proper name can be considered as a sin. The Jewish understood that, that is why YHWH (Yahweh) as a proper name was not used by Jewish people anymore because they felt it was forbidden to say it. Jesus itself called him Adonai, El, Elohim, (which are titles not proper names). Jesus did not call him Yahweh. Jesus Christ the trinity El (one God) ELOHIM (Trinity-plural). This is only anti assyrian propaganda as in the old testament and these are trying to give us a new identity. Unfortunately we are aware of our Assyrian historical continuity in both diaspora and nothern Mesopotamia, core country of Assyria.
