"The problem is there's No Protocol." I was surprised that you didn't say "Hey, that's me!". 😂
I think she gave a little huff.
@@cshubs Yes, she most certainly heard and acknowledged with her body language and facial expression. :)
She's very composed.
@@lordofchaosinc.261 She's a class act.
The strangest thing was that on the day after Baumggartner's jump, there was suddenly a complete power outage in our town (in Germany), the first in years. I still remember exactly how the neighbors ran out into the street in complete confusion in the pitch black of night. ... half an hour later the power was back ✨
I watched this live when he did it. Absolutely mesmerizing
Was it televised?
Yeah, I was glued to it. Amazing.
@@NoProtocolLive stream online. A lot of things like this and rocket launches are broadcast online. I try to watch significant streams like that when I can (and did watch this one!).
@NoProtocol and the full length video is just mind blowing. What got me was just exactly how long it took from jump to landing, let alone a human body creating a sonic boom on the way down
@NoProtocol Yeah, it was broadcast live all over the world. Remember, the whole family and friends just staring at the screen without anyone speaking 😄
That shot looking down when he first jumps is just insane
I read recently that Clyde Tombaugh, the man who discovered Pluto, when he died was cremated and his ashes were placed aboard a spacecraft orbiting Pluto, making him not only the person who discovered the planet but the first person to visit it.
Also, Eugene Cernan, one of the last humans to walk on the moon, shortly before returning to the lunar module, dropped to his knee and wrote his daughters name in the dust. Since there is no atmosphere on the moon, her name will likely remain there for thousands of years.
Sometimes the simplest things are the most profound. I remember watching Felix Baumgartner's leap at the time, and what struck me and stayed with me was when he said "I'm going home now."
The Mission Consultant shown in the video, Joe Kittinger, performed a similar jump in 1960, from 102,000 feet up and fell for 4 minutes and 36 seconds, reaching a maximum speed of 614 miles per hour. There is a longer video about it somewhere on YT.
That is some lore we needed! Thanks for adding this
@@NoProtocol en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Kittinger
When I first heard of Joe Kittinger, on the History Channel, they said he broke the speed of sound. The first part of his ballooning, which was just for altitude to test pressure suits, was called Project Manhigh. The part where he jumped was Project Excelsior.
They were testing whether pilots and astronauts could survive an ejection. This was in 1960.
I'm so old that I remember when Red Bull was a drinks company.
I am so old I can remember when red bull was a NEW drink...
@@grangegorman34mikmik66i’m so old i can remember when Red Bull was a super catchy commercial that was rumored to have a drink made after it
It’s crazy how much of that crap people must drink to justify all of the stunts and sports they sponsor.
@@schwajj In 2023, Red Bull reported a global revenue of €9.68 billion (approximately $10.5 billion). The company's net profit for the same period was €1.18 billion (about $1.3 billion). Red Bull is also known for its significant marketing expenditures, which are estimated to be around $1.6 billion annually, representing a substantial portion of its revenue.
@@schwajj They advertise like Nike - they make you feel like your part of something special and bigger than the products they sell and that drives sales. People see someone jump from space and think "I want me some of that".
The first HELLDIVER!
Joseph Kittenger did an extreme jump, about 102,000', from a weather balloon in 1960.
This was the first thing i ever watched live on UA-cam.
Love the shout-out to you at around 1:49! 😆
Mary Roach wrote a book prior to this jump called "Packing for Mars" that discusses this jump and the physics of high-altitude falling. It's an informative and entertaining book throughout. This is just one aspect of human space travel that she discusses.
I love her books.
i remember watching this live
No idea how I’d never heard of this happening
Dear Protocol, how do you manage to sit on only half your chair? 🤪
I sit on a folded over pillow on half of the chair so that I’m not too low for the camera. It’s a whole process but it’s just becoming my preferred way of sitting at this point 😂
@@NoProtocol lol thanks for the answer, last few videos I kept noticing so I just had to ask! 🙂
Anyone that thinks that a particularly stupid idea with no knowable outcomes is a good idea is someone I'd have a beer with.
Watched it live on TV. I remember it came pretty late in the evening but everybody I knew stayed up to watch it.
Back in my youth, I was a qualified military jumper. Static line, freefall, and HALO. At my most thrill seeking, I think I would have put this into the hard pass category. Watching the live broadcast of this event was absolutely mesmerizing.
This was a huge deal. It was live-televised all over the world. Documentaries are in fact available. To call it a "world record attempt" is underselling the endeavour. It was a low-key space mission. They coordinated directly with NASA who gathered a lot of data from this 4min free fall from the edge of space.
Ive watched this 50 times atleast. I have 7211 skydives the highest jump ive had was 33,000 feet this guy jumping with no air pressure it blows me away thinking about that. Just how much sky diving has changed in the last 20yrs my mom an dad ran a skydiving school i had my first free fall jump at 14yrs old been doing it for 21yrs my family has an affiliation with the air port were all pilots have several planes my wife is closing in on 6000 jumps. winged suits brought skydiving to a whole new era. We love your channel we never know what were going to get have an awesome day 😊
7211 and 6000 jumps respectively is so cool to read! I’m definitely a bit of a scardy cat when it comes to skydiving. I’m so glad you guys still like the channel, thanks for being two of my early subscribers (:
Have you seen the landing on mars? It was insane. Rocket to mars, deploys a lander, lander deploying a heatshield, and then hovers above the surface, using a crane to lower the vehicle in the surface. And then lateron, the lander also deployed a helicopter.
There is a 'live' video on nasa showing it all. Incredible.
There's an over hour long recording of the original live stream on youtube "Red Bull Stratos - Space Jump LIVE Stream"
I remember watching this live. It really is lost on most how immensely difficult this was.
I remember seeing this. You always choose very interesting stuff to react to
i remember watching this live!!
I watched this live when I worked for Red Bull. I never thought that anyone would make a reaction video...
Watched this live when it happened... was a thrilling experience.
I remember watching this live with my dad. I remember the majority of the program was the ascent
The most incredible thing for me is he stuck that landing.
Those rectangular parachutes are pretty maneuverable. By pulling on some of the cords your weight can be redistributed across the chute. Besides turning the chute it can also change it's lift profile. A really good landing can be as gentle as walking off an escalator. The round parachutes from WWII movies, not so much speed control.
"The only thing standing between you and your goal is the bullshit story you keep telling yourself as to why you can't achieve it."
Felix Baumgartner
Ha ... or in his case a little detail called "potential death", lol.
I remember when this happened, it seemed at the time like literally everybody in the world was watching it. This and one of the SpaceX launches, the one where they launched Falcon Heavy and stuck the landing of the main stage and the two boosters. Was crazy.

I don't like Red Bull but love their cliff divers (Ginni!) along with the other extreme sports they use for promotions.
I need to watch more of their videos, never seen the cliff divers!
@@NoProtocol idk if Redbull do any sponsorships, but if you foray into aquatic sports there are some wild free diver videos out there. I saw one where the guy dove all the way to the bottom of an ocean cenote on a single breath. It was 4K of spooky as the sunlight dims in the deep.
Songs that come to mind are "Jump" by Van Halen and "I Believe I Can Fly" by R Kelly come to mind. Interesting fact, the size comparison to how high he actually was is equivilant to the thickness of a dime compared to the school room globe. As far as why he weighed twice as much in space has to do with centrifugal force and the LaGrange point. Spin from being essentially a person tied to an invisible rope that's being flung around by the earth causes his weight to be doubled, adding to the fact that he wasn't really in space so much as the edge of our outer atmosphere.
It was amazing to watch when it happened. I was surprised you were unaware.
im surprised she didn’t know about this
Just about 12 years late 😂
I remember watching this live. My dinner went stone cold seeing him jump, it took ages.
I watched the live broadcast, and when he broke the sound barrier, he actually got knocked out for a few seconds.
No Protocol Awesome Video Today!!🔥🐐🐐💎
Saw a much longer version of this years back, it's probably still out there.
Most younger people have no idea about a lot of things that has happened in the last 10-20 years to current events now, consumed by social media and the party lifestyle leaves little time for anything else. Also there is a documentary about this jump.
Felix is a pioneer. He used a wingsuit to fly across the English Channel as well as performing iconic base jumps. I watched the Stratosphere jump live back in 2012. You should be able to watch the full video somewhere. The ascent in the balloon is crazy, especially when he stands up and moves towards the doorway overlooking space.
Watched that live :D cool stuff... right stuff! :P
There are More videos on here , maybe longer, but this was good and I enjoyed your reaction 🤗
React to the guy who jumped out of a plane at 25k feet with NO parachute and landed in a net. It’s pretty wild.
My uncle was the doctor on the helicopter that was first to greet him after his landing.
Lol Captain Kirk orbital skydived from a shuttle Star Trek Generations it was cut from the movie but exists in the novelization so technically its cannon. Seriously though thats really cool could have went wrong though really fast I can't imagine what it would be like to pass the terminator into day impressive video
If I was guaranteed to survive and come out of it physically the same as when I went in I’d do it. There are two girls in my life who think I’m amazing. One is 6yo. I drove her parents to the hospital the day before she was born. The other is her 10yo cousin. I drove her, her mother, and grandmother back from the hospital after she was born. I listen to them read, I suggest things when they’re trying to find answers. I’m big/old friend to them as little/young friend. It would be nice to do something extraordinary to reward their belief in me. I should be content with the Foo Fighters description “There goes my hero, he’s ordinary.”
I remember watching that live. WTF, breaks the speed of sound and then steps back down on the ground like me stepping off the back porch.
I won't even jump off of the running boards on my pickup truck. That's how you roll an ankle.
I remember this, absolutely insane feat!
Well, it wasnt that long ago, so I would hope you remember it!
Would have been a blast to watch it live. It's good that people like Felix volunteer to push human boundaries. Myself I wouldn't risk to live the rest of my life blind or quadriplegic.
Yes. Yes I would.
It took him 90 minutes to get to altitude…he was in a pressurized capsule suspended from a gas balloon.
In that first shot when he steps off of the platform and diminishes to a dot and then nothing I was expecting a puff of smoke.
Too many road runner cartoons as a kid.
You are one of the most intelligent you tubers
Damn i watched this live on tv
The first question I had a decade ago when I saw this was: "I would have thought our human biology couldn't survive breaking the sound barrier" and the physics of that still has me scratching my head...
Any thoughts?
Love Noprotocol😎
I cant believe you dont remember it, this was wild to watch live. But cool to watch either way!
12 years ago. She looks pretty young, so not surprising.
At this point it 's so high up that Acrophobia isn't even a thing. At one point do you wake up and decide that you want to jump from the edge of space?
For me that day will never come Carlos 😂
For me that phenomenon already happens at 3000 feet: it looks so unreal I have no problem jumping out of a plane. Never, not even the first time.
I've actually developed a fear of *_not_* having any fear of heights! I'm scared I'm not careful enough when it comes to heights. After a long time of skydiving (and climbing) I am sometimes worried, for example on a high balcony, that I'll just have that "I'm safe" attitude and mistakenly jump off the balcony or something!
There are no spiders up there.
Ha ha
@@danielwagman9794 Acro-arachnophobia: the fear of falling spiders
yeah... when you start to see the whole horizon it starts to seem a little more like beside, than above.
This event was televised all over the world, but somehow it was quickly forgotten.
I remember hating on the event and telling everybody it's fake, and it's just a marketing scheme.
Then again, I smoked a lot of weed back then, and was into conspiracy theories a lot lol.
You soon forget about the taste of Taurine when mixed with a double Vodka and ice. 😋
Great commentary
Majestic lady 👀
Fun random Taurine cat fact.
Cats can't produce Taurine endogenously so they need it in their diet like a vitamin.
"No Protocol"...yep.
At the time it had the largest internet viewing in history. I think over 8,000,000.
It would’ve been best to watch the full footage from start to end . It’s much more exciting that way great content.
Remember. The curvature is from the camera lens. He wasn't that far up. Far enough, yes. But don't get cheated.
When i get 6-7 stories up on industrial outdoor stairs and ladders. I am scared. I can’t even fathom this.
Thanks for sharing this, I always appreciate your thoughts. If you want to see another Red Bull athlete blow your mind try gymkhana 11. Featuring Travis Pastrana.
Me: "I can't stop spinning guys." ....my luck. lol
I will always remember this fascinating video. When it was first published, I mentioned it to some friends during dinner. My one friend's know-it-all wannabe wife, unfortunately, criticized it as being not true, even though she had never seen the video. She's the type who always needs to be right, who always knows more than you. 👎
From this video I thought that the jump was fairly recent. I didn’t realize it happened back in 2012! Maybe it’s one of those things you have to see to believe
@@NoProtocol .... An amazing feat of engineering and human bravery!
I get nervous when I'm climbing a ladder onto my roof!
Cant really think of any sports related music. Maybe Jerry was a Racecar Driver by Primus?
I watched this live on TV from the UK. The jump was shown all around the world, not only this documentary, it was a shame you missed it.
I’m just about 12 years late
🤯
Amazing love the video protocol Stay motivated Dream big 1 mill on the way
Love your reactions, personal insights and infectious warmth. There is a music connection that you may know of, but didn't suggest because maybe you thought it was too close to the source material? But ,if that is not the case, then I have possibly thee perfect companion piece. So for MUSIC SELECTION: Boards of Canada - Dayvan Cowboy. 😍A utterly wonderful and uplifting/ building track, with a music video (search for the official Warp Records release with 4.6 million views) that is on point regarding the context of this video. ❤
Book selection: Not a book but a short Lovecraftian story about encountering strange entities in high altitudes. My apologies for not remembering the name of the story or the author, but maybe someone else will help out.
The complete fall was only 4 minutes and 20 seconds, as he was falling at 843 miles per hour.
Master Chief would be proud😂
I watched this live. Its quite an achievement!🙂
I think the whole world watched this live
I have a problem jumping out of bed in the morning!
Have you seen the guy that walked on a wire between the twin towers with no safety?
No! Just reading that question makes me nervous
@@NoProtocol Oh there is a documentary on it. Would love seeing you react to a short video of it maybe :)
There’s a film called “man on wire”
Is it that french guy who did things like that all over the place
@@mattsmith5421 yea he is French
The short answer is no, my legs are wobbly just watching him do it.
Why didn't i ever think of doing that?
I wonder what he was thinking up there. How about "Why the f**k am I doing this?!" 😁
BTW, there are energy drinks without taurine. Taurine causes heart palpitations to a lot of people, but it's Red Bull's whole shtick so they can't abandon it.
Well, if you jump from a chair in your living room, it's still jumping from space
Alan Eustace broke this record 2 years later after Baumgartners jump.
But like Roger Bannister breaker 4 min in the mile he wi be remembered
If you are looking for tips on what is engaging Redbull Mediahouse content, "RedBull Rampage", "Redbull Storm Chase" and "Red Bull Air Race" are all pretty much nutsy stuff. If you'd want to jump for a whole movie, "The Art of Flight" (about snowboarding) and "Chasing Niagra" (trying to sneak over Niagra Falls in kayaks) are both really engaging as well.
Redbull MediaHouse was started mostly to cement the relationship between RedBull's 18-35 demographic and the energy drink, by promoting an adventure, adrenaline lifestyle.
Flat earthers are going nuts saying, ""NOOOOO!, DON"T SHOW THE CURVATURE OF THE EARTH! IT MAKES US ALL SOUND CRAZY!!!"
The camera is using a wide angled/fish eyed lens which warps horizontal lines. There is plenty of footage this high up that doesnt use a fish eyed lens, and it shows the horizon how it truly is - level. Perfectly flat.
Its you globers who go nuts when normal lenses are used, because it shows how flat the world really is. You like the fake curvature effect from fish eyed lenses because you cant handle reality.

I would take the jump. I am a licensed skydiver. LOTS of people are and LOTS would do it if there was that guaranteed survival. I think the idea of being on the edge of blue and black sky would be weird. Still think it would be fun.
