      Although our navy is smaller and i do wish it to be a bit bigger, we do prioritise better technology then sheer size. Besides we have two carriers to be able to carry out operations and enough ships/subs to protect both them and our land.

    0:44 "The Ship can beat the Airplane" Just 5 years later and the Battleship is dead due to the Airplane. Amazing how fast Aircraft technology and design changed during WW2.

    • @fot6771
      @fot6771 7 місяців тому +2

      Ironically it was Britain who pioneered aircraft anti ship actions with the sinking of the bismarck and the battle of Taranto.
      Britain simultaneously expended herself fighting at the start of both world wars, and also handicapped her own battleship advantage before/during both wars with the HMS dreadnaught and then aircraft

    Those WW1 - originated capital ships were truely ”half tide rocks” even in moderate waves. Wet ships, took a lot water on front deck and huge amounts of moisture in the turrets and crew quarters. Same took place with KGV - class with it`s low bow. The problem was only solved after the war with hms Vanguards fine clipper bow.

    • @Kreatorisbackyt
      @Kreatorisbackyt Рік тому +1

      In Case of KGV only Deck was always Wet in bad weather but everything Else was completely wet because it was Very new ship class with well build and tight waterproof seals at the end of WW2
      The oldest Ship of this class was barely 5 years old with newest ship being only 2-3 years old

    • @Ah01
      @Ah01 Рік тому +1

      @@Kreatorisbackyt the front quadruple had big problems during everything else, but calm seas. Here's from wikipedia, concerning the KGV: "Designed within the tight 35,000 ton limitations of the Washington Naval Treaty wartime service necessitated increases over the design displacement, seriously reducing freeboard and affecting seaworthiness. This was most acute at the already low bow. With too little buoyancy forward the bows were easily buried even in moderate seas, with spray washing up over both forward turrets. Heavy seas could flood 'A' turret, drenching both men and machinery within."
      Same problems are pointed out in many other sources too. HMS Vanguard was the first and only RN - battleship to tackle it properly with a clipper bow and adequete free board reserve.

Modern destroyers are optimized against one or both of those (which have the lethal weapons against surface ships).
