Bruce Meyer’s Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing - PPF & Ceramic Coating Prep for The Quail 2022

- This Mercedes Benz 300SL Gullwing in the perfect spec (black with red interior) is heading to The Quail 2022 and Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance 2022 we needed to get it ready with a full car show detailing. This was a SUPER FAST turn around. And i mean.. there wasn't enough hours between the time it arrived and show time, and somehow, we managed to get it done!
On this classic Mercedes 300SL, we applied paint correction, polished every part we could get our hands on, applied paint protection film (PPF) across the body, detailed the interior and touched up those gorgeous red leather seats, and finished with a Mayvinci Oracle Ceramic Coating.
This is one of my favorite cars ever made. I've had it on my bucket list for as long as I can remember, and I dream of long cruises up the Italian countryside in this exact color 300SL. We threw a couple Mercedes 300sl exhaust notes in there for you ;)
It looked fantastic at the show and caught plenty of eyes while it made its rounds through the week (I even saw it in the paddock at Laguna Seca!)

Fantastic work again guys! I don’t think I have ever seen someone PPF a hole side of a car before let alone ceramic coat it afterwards.
Let me tell yah.. this was a DOOZY! It took a long time to get it done in one go and make the entire panel perfect
There’s no place to hide the ppf lines so we HAD to make it happen :)
And then ceramic on top for that extra level of protection and cleaning ease!

Just curious. What lights are you using while detailing for the lights that are attached to your head/hat? Are they color matched or will most LED lights work just as well?
Does PPF bring the bloom in highlights, or is this effect is present because of powerful inspection lights? Looks very soft, oily id say, black is not as deep as i think it should. Not certain if i like this effect, somewhat opposite of what was the intend, isnt it?

@@jpkatz1435 it needed a new fuel pump. We had to rebuild it from scratch. (Blade broke and suction was not priming)Then once we got fed up. Sent it out. Then we had to repair it again from the shop that we sent it too. These cars are one in a 1000 and not everyone knows how to fix these things. 700 dollars just to re oxidize the one trim piece for driver side door. And it was only. Foot long. And maybe 1cm thick.
what's the owners stress level with the razor blades for the PPF at 5:50? those are blades right?

Does removing some of the parts and reinstalling them after cleaning increase the chance of wear or damage?
There’s always a chance of damage, but that is why we’re extremely careful and know how the parts are to be removed before we remove them. I’d argue that it actually increases the life and safety of the parts because we’re cleaning them and reinstalling them, tightening back anything that may have shook loose over the years

Ceramic coating on top of a plastic film?
Yep! If you haven’t tried it, strongly recommended. It will make your ppf last longer, give you better protection, make it very easy to clean :)

In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime. (BABVVEN & TEBBVEN & BEFVO laws)!

Marx had a term for this, he called it " commodity fetishism". I still love this car though and considering when it was made just a few years after the war it is remarkable. Together with the Citroën DS it is one of the most significant cars ever. There's just something about all that loving attention being given to a car in a world full of starvation and war that makes me feel uncomfortable. I guess we're all full of contradictions!

The 100 hours spent on just the PPF would qualify as more than typical on this, I'd say. It did sit front and center at the Quail after leaving our shop so I think it got the job done
