In the current moment the world is experiencing, with the strengthening of extremist, intolerant ideas that threaten the integrity of minorities, the movie “I’m Still Here” is like a wake up call for today's society to understand how harmful dictatorships and authoritarian governments can be for ordinary citizens, not just in Brazil, but all over the world. There is a powerful message behind this film through Torres' breathtaking performance that presents us with Eunice in the most faithful way. How she tried to stifle her feelings like a rock in the name of the integrity of the family and the memory of her husband, despite the earthquake inside of the heart and mind. An extremely difficult and complex real life character to make. A film that addresses real events in an honest way, without appeal. A right film at the right time. Masterpiece!
That said, Fernanda Torres and “I’m Stil Here” definitely deserve the Oscar this year.
