Just watching Hywel Bennett on UK Drama his appeared in a few episodes of The Bill. I remember watching Shelley it was on a weekday. His younger brother is Alun Lewis (Bennett) who played Vic Winsor in Emmerdale.
Haven't heard that tune in about 30 years, his death reminded me to check out Shelley on you tube, I'd been meaning to look it up for a while it was my favourite sit com back in the day, I could empathise with Shelley.
RIP Hywel. This show was on every week in our house. Excellent actor. Some years later on Channel4 they repeated an early Dennis Potter play that starred a young Hywel Bennett as a young Man with learning difficulties. Set in Swansea I think. It is called WHERE THE BUFFALO ROAM. His performance is just superb. I recommend it to any tv drama fan.
R.I.P Hywel Bennett. You were a part of my childhood. Thankyou
You better be IFS
Oh how this tune brings me back..
This theme tune to this classic show has haunted me for years. One of the best themes ever. RIP Hywel Bennett. What a fine actor he was.
Hywel was a superb actor. He did a lot of things in his career but if you want to see how brilliant he was- Shelley!
God how strange, i can remember this theme tune so clearly. I was only five or six when this comedy first aired, back in 79

When a sitcom theme is in a minor key you know it's going to be quite deep and intelligent.
There's something eerie about this tune...
"Never was a Cornflake Girl, thought it was a good solution."
This theme tune made a big impression on me as a kid even though the humour was probably slightly too adult for me to fully appreciate.
