As a disabled Army combat veteran I had to wheel to PT/ Physical Therapy until my legs were strong enough and I regained coordination to walk. I also had my right arm in a forearm cast so rolling wasn't easy. With this lever and chain drive so many wheel chairs can be easier to maneuver.
The VA and Army hospitals wouldn't or couldn't provide power chairs. It was the 80s and times sure have changed, but I cannot believe it took nearly 40 years.

Nora was such a great experience especially for that confidence boost that comes with more education. It was a great surprise getting to meet Hollie! She is honestly one of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure to meet.
I've wondered how you got your start. Those chairs are absolutely awesome. As someone who spent his life in the woods, one of my biggest fears would be losing the ability to get back out there. It's absolutely fantastic to see that people are using their talents to make the woods accessible to everyone.
How fortunate for us that Walter booked that class. Your fun, positive attitude is a blessing to all that know you. Loved the video Hollie! Keep up the good work!

I started with a 1983 CJ-7 with 31" tires and a 2 1/2" lift . I lived in San Jose cal and would drive up to Rubicon or Sierra track would run the trail and then drive home about 125 miles each way. And I would use my Wench if I thought I would break and people would give me a bad time for doing it. But I needed to drive to work on Monday so I would just say you try it like me and then you can say something. My jeep now as a 5.7 V-8 Sprung over running 36" BFG'S lockers front and rear it goes any where I point it now. But I trailer it to and from the trail now but to wheel with no fear you need to trailer it. But it is Addicting so way to go girl and keep the video's coming. Hollie you are a very special person I hope to meet you someday
Thank you so much I know you like 4wheelin as much as me and my daughter. I started her at 2 yrs old in a carseat and she started steering it at 4 and could drive it by the key at 7 all my friends would only yet spot them when she turn 9 . Keep showing us your way to the top

Awesome video again Hollie! Being disabled myself with a severe spinal disease (although not in a wheelchair yet) it's always nice to know that I could do off roading still. What an amazing man he is to give people the opportunity to still off road with disabilities. I don't know how I have beat the odds of being in a wheelchair and neither do my doctors, but I know my days are numbered. When the day comes, I know who I will contact to help me to continue my passion of off roading. Take care and I will catch you on your next video.

It’s amazing how people forget that not every area has privately owned Offroad Parks like Windrock, let alone BLM public lands that can be enjoyed for recreation (for free). Places like NORA are essential if you live in NY, NJ or Connecticut. Especially for a newbie who doesn’t know anything about Jeeping. Offroad parks can be kinda intimidating for this who are new to the industry.
@@MischiefMakerTV I live in Montana and I have never heard of any kind of program like what you went thru. There is a lot of off-road clubs but nothing that I know of to help beginners or the physically handicapped.
I got sooo lost the 1st time I went there lol. I totally ended up trespassing on some poor soul's property trying to find NORA. Scott & his team rock. It's truly a labor or love for them. That main building in the facility came out nice! It was still under construction when I went.

Scott is an angel. Really appreciate what he is doing and has the opportunity to do for the handicapped and our disabled veterans. Amazing person. I also wanted to say thanks for the wildflowers. It's awesome you took a second to notice. You summed up in one picture why I've blown years of paychecks on a jeep. So we can get to the places and see the things the masses can't destroy in a Subaru. Cause we don't care about nature....thank you, I love your content. Look forward to it every week. My handicapped nephew would have a ball there.
What a great video Holly, I love the fact that now the disabled can move around on their own.
I just want to add that my 88 year old mom broke her ankle on June 12th, had surgery and has been non weight for 6 weeks with at least another 3 weeks to go. My brother, myself and a soon to be RN care for her at home along with my 90 year old dad. I have learned first hand many of challenges to being in a wheelchair.
The SOARS program that NORA has is truly inspiring! I can’t wait to learn more about it.

Brings me back to my first time in the early 70's as a teenager in Southern CA. A friend took me in his mom's 71 Bronco out for a ride. We went to a local beach (back when you still could) locked the hubs and drove up and down the beach. I was in awe that this was possible. Not long after that I bought my first car. 67 Jeep Commando and the adventures began. But I still remember that simple run. I've never been without a 4x4 of some sort ever since. Would love to have that 67 back but that's another story.

First off, can we thank Walter for starting this whole journey and obviously continuing to support it? "Round of applause". As a former outdoor person who became disabled I am more then psyched to see this kind of content. I'm out of a chair on flat even ground for short distances but this would be awesome and I'm not too far away in Philadelphia!

Hi Holly, I am waiting for the VA to deliver my 4x4 wheelchair next month. The model is Extreem X8, I wish I could have gotten a track chair but it would not fit in the back of my 08 Jeep JK. Thanks for showing that people with different abilities (not disabilities) can get offroad and have fun. I hate the term handicap, a handicap is a golf term. I have a different ability to walk, not a disability. I still have abilities, mine are just different from most. Sorry just trying to educate a few people after reading a few comments. Most people do not realize how negative some of the words are for people that can't walk or have limits in walking like I do. I am hoping to meet you in Tn.

I was wheelchair bound for a couple months with only use of my right side of my body. Making things for people in need means a lot to me

Hollie I started watching in support of a fellow human feom the UK side of the pond. I live my wish to off road through you and others. As a wheelchair user this is something I would love to do. Thank you so much for showing this and if I ever manage to get US side I will defiantly head to Scott and team. Thank you to all for shedding the light that this service is there.
Wheeling with various types of vehicles tests driving ability, problem solving and most of all, courage to tackle the unknown which builds confidence for the individual to enjoy life to the fullest. Great informative heart warming video Hollie.
Outstanding Hollie! I love stories of 'where people come from'. We all have history and if you stop and listen, we all have a story to tell.
It was great to hear Scott explain his passion for off road enthusiasts but even more so for his expanding the boundaries of those who are less fortunate. Those off road mobility chairs are so cool. I can't imagine the joy of someone getting to use one of those out there in that beautiful environment.

Excellent equipment for challenged folks. Mobility is so important for everyone. We take things for granted until we get a reality check. Pleased to see that some people have a passion to help others, help themselves.

I just got my first power chair, it's so awesome to see that there is also offroad chairs and trails made for them too! I live in Finland so here normal power chair alone is quite rare to see.

That's the coolest thing. I've seen some of those tracked wheelchairs both in person and in several YT videos being used from marksman shooting to actual outdoor bow hunting for the handicapable.

Here is an amazing story.
In 2020, not only was I going thru the pandemic like everyone else but I was going thru a painful divorce after 25 years of marriage. I did a lot of soul searching and in June of 2020 I bought a Tacoma and small fiberglass trailer with plans to travel, and which I have doing and having a blast. I have been as far north as Acadia National park, East to Martha’s Vineyard, south along the coast to Savanna, Georgia and west to Spring Green, Wisconsin. Along the way were places I could have gotten off road if I had the skills and equipment. Off roading was never something that I did before.
During the pandemic, I became a great fan of Matt’s Off Road Recovery channel, which you appeared in many times and I love your spirit. I loved the episode of Lizzie driving Mischief Maker. Somehow I never subscribed to your channel. (Sorry, it has now been corrected!)
The end of July this year I was searching for somewhere near me in NJ that did 4x4 classes and I came across the NORA website. I signed up for my son and I to do the 2 day class starting on this Friday! We are sooo excited! And, I can bring my little camper to stay the night!
I only saw your video because Scott posted it on the NORA website. Nice to learn your backstory and realize others have walked this path before me. I can’t wait to meet Scott and the crew and learn some skills. Your video was a great overview of what to expect.

You are going to love the class and your experience at NORA. That was literally the start of everything for me and it was such a treat to come by and see how the facility and staff have grown.

I was sandrails and Baja bugs, first 4wheeler was a 78 FJ. Today it's a Ram tow pig and a old 4Runner with a 1UZ swap.

In upstate ny my home stomping grounds we would camp out on the truck trails do rock crawling and water (creek)crossings and alot of overlanding with the run what you brung class aka 81 jeep J20 4x4 pickup with a broken transfer case handle the handle moved but the transfer case didnt. And we wheeled it in 2wd but the lockers in the rear worked perfectly.loved that old J20 truck had many 4x4s since.
Super cool Holly being some I disabled myself I really appreciate the wheelchairs even though I'm not there yet maybe someday thanks sweetie
Vinnie it took me 16 years to get to the point where I can use a 4x4 wheelchair. Keep up the fight and you can get there.

When I started out off-road, we had nobody to direct us. I came from a generation of kids that explored the woods on bicycles, then dirt bikes, then Jeeps. There are a lot of people that have lived protected lives.
That’s one way to look at it. Having seen both sides of it, I can appreciate that there are options for people who live in metro areas and don’t have access to legal options for trails without driving 4-7 hours away from home. Also, I wouldn’t recommend someone take their $40,000+ Jeep out in the woods and ‘learn the hard way’ how to use it. Just a matter of perspective and how people prefer to learn.
