I wonder that if the sled winding mechanisim were replaced by a gravity fed pully system which had a weight specifically calibrated to the optimum workload of the saw, then one would avoid placing avoidable strain on all the components and also be able to do all the other stuff while the system operates automatically. A ten to 20 litre drum of water may do it. Also ppl who are going to have chain says are also going to have extention ladders - it's a guy thing. It might be useful to make you system to be used specifically using the aly ladders as the stretcher.
Being a "Smart Engineer" you would know there would be Better options! This guy a backyard mechanic, nothing more, nothing less. Calling this guy an Engineer would be like calling the telegraph system is a good smart phone!
Two things, you’re a genius. As always, absolutely amazing. Secondly, also here for the comments about the section of tree at the beginning on the left-hand side of the screen.
AAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA AHhhahahhhahhahha HHHHHHAAhahahaHAHAhhahaHHAHhahahahHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHa...... DUDE YOU MADE ME GO BACK AND LOOK !!!!!!!! I thought you fell off your rocker there for a moment lol
I rarely get overly impressed with even the smartest UA-cam. This is far and away the most impressive thing I have seen. My pov is that of an off the gridder living on a remote island in Canada. That device speaks to me.
As long as you escaped any damage to your house/shop/cars and all of you and your children are all then everything should be ok for you. The portable sawmill is really cool and definitely worth sharing. Thanks
Absolutely stellar design sir! Heavy engineering low material cost, such a beautiful equation. I recently moved to a logging area where everyone around me seems to be a part of a logging operation of one sort of the other. Neighbors asked me to come help me saw up some rounds for the old man and the first thing they said to me was "always run your saw wide open son".
Great build, Izzy~!! I'll take a look at your older plan, but will be keeping an eye out for a newer version, if you put one out. We got slammed by Helene as well (Augusta, GA) and lost 60+ trees on our almost 3 acre lot. I stood in line at my Ace Hardware to get a Stihl 271, but those sold out, so I bought "what was available"...a 391. What a beast this thing is~! Thanks for sharing this.
Honestly Izzy...I don't know why you aren't on the DARPA team! What a SPLENDID MIND you have, sir...SO creative! Glad to see you up and around. PLEASE take care of that back!
Awesome project and it looks like it works great without any adjustments so far. And watching you guys with all your projects I know it will only get better.Happy Holidays to you and everyone else there. Be safe and stay healthy to all. Merry Christmas!!
Every morning, while having my morning coffee I check my UA-cam, and when my Notification button lights up, and it is your video, i know my day is off to a great start, and I am NEVER disappointed. You are a great thinker. So sorry to see so much storm damage, but also grateful you are all safe. Without a doubt, You are the Very Best. Enjoy your day.
Well Izzy, you've done it again. You've shown us sometimes you just have to 'get to inventin' to overcome an issue. Now, get this idea to the patent office, quick!! 😀
Izzy! You remind me of my dad! He worked for NASA. He was always building stuff like you do. If you two ever got together i am sure you could have got us to the moon using plywood. Yes, NASA did use ply boards in Mock-Up. Fun project. Thanks Again
Can't wait to see the finished version with plans and templates available. Most people here just cut it into smaller lengths and throw it away. Just today I watched a dozer knock one down and smash it all up that I may try to see if I can salvage tomorrow. I love your other ones but the portable hand truck version you are working on looks like a winner to me. Some plans and a hardware list/Amazon links to products and I will certainly buy the plans
Looks great, Izzy! One suggestion: turn the saw over so that you cut with the other side of the bar. That will eject the chips out the other side, and keep your machine free of sawdust and chips. Also the path where you walk will be free. Jim in Sweden!
@@doesntmatter3068 There are lots of variants of the Alaska Chainsaw Mill. So who stole what? The Pm14 isn't all mounted on trolley, isn't made of wood and not designed by single person
Awesome to see how you took that crappy situation and turned it around into a chance to invent something awesome. I just had my CNC arrive, so this was great timing, to see how I can use it not just for making furniture, but for building and rapid prototyping. Unlocking a few new areas of the brain. Thanks for that! And glad you guys only had a tree come down on the car, and elsewhere on the property during the storm, and everyone is safe!
This is awesome! I thought of a small business model of going to peoples homes and taking their downed trees and cutting them down on their property and whether they wanted to keep the wood slabs and have a place for them OR they just wanted the majority of the tree gone... a price could be made for both options. I've mentioned this a few times to people that told me HOA and noise pollution would make a saw running all day be a problem....as well as storage for wood slabs. I don't have a truck, trailer, saw mill, or the financial backing to even start a thing like this..😅🤣😂 My dad and brother went in halvsies and bought a chainsaw sawmill for some tree that fell in dads backyard.. Then brother got cancer and that project got put on hold and the (at one point more valuable wood) ended up being discarded due to rotting from sitting on ground too long. 😢 I appreciate your God given abilities to use that brain and create some pretty cool stuff! Been following your channel quite a bit and in my head there is a bit of a woodworker in me as Jesus (my Lord and Savior) also worked with wood...some say that He died on the very cross He made...but that isn't in the Bible. Not the biggest thing...although sometimes I can see a parallel with letting the work consume you...but hey. He came back defeating sin and death...so was the power in the cross or the One that created it?😊 Anyways....I love this mobile saw mill thing! God's Only Son Permits Eternal Life! 😇🙏💪
Izzy it's so amazing and inspiring to see you up and getting around, not even to mention running a sawmill!!!!! Love the great videos, thank you! Needs a tape measure attached to the side of the saw carrier :) Would make it easier to be precise with your board thicknesses
It looks great and so easy to move around. I can't wait to see an improved version. Compared to the plywood prices (€30/m2 for the cheap/Chinese stuff) we have to pay in Greece, $40 for a sheet is a steal.
So good to see you getting around!! keep up the great work! sad to see the damage from the hurricane... but things can be replaced and so glad that you guys are safe.

What I love about you Izzy. Once again making lemonade out of lemons. Thoughts and prayers to all affected by Helene, I can't imagine how rough it is right now for many in that region.
My endless pursuit to mill my own lumber. Where I live, it’s hard to find rough sawn lumber and surfaced are $$$. I can get trees from many services, but I don’t have room or equipment to haul around. A portable one I can take to the lumber itself is my quest. Hopefully you’ll make improvements on that one or if even buy one from you. My journey continues.
Amazing to watch you build wood frame of chainsaw mill, I think some one might looking for and needs this jig , I hope to the future you might make from metal it might long time use, I seen a lot people create chainsaw mill by their own + my self, thank you for share 💯%👍.
Great to see you up and active Izzy and I love the portable chainsaw design too. Hopefully you weren't too badly hit by Hurricane Helene but I know many were. Typical woodworker though Hurricane Helene may have devastated large areas of the SE US but you never let a log slip you by when there's lumber to be had even if it did take out a car as it came down.
Haven’t seen your videos in a while Izzy! I’ll be sure to check your channel more frequently. Also great to see you on your feet and looking more mobile and spry! Hope you’re well dude ❤
I love when you build things like this. You are always inventing something to make the job easier or more efficient and it shows your skill cause you’re always trying to make inexpensive as well. PS. I noticed what you did there with the cutoff lol
Glad that neither of you were hurt during the storm. Vary innovative portable saw mill. Also, where are you buying cabinet grade plywood for $40/sheet? Where I live it's more than $80/sheet.
