Just purchased a 25hp Baldor at auction that I'll be using as an idler motor for a 3 phase converter. It spins just fine, but since I don't know if it was maintained, I want to change out the bearings. I assume you can use an oven to heat up the bearing, but what temperature should I set the oven to heat them? Tks in advance.

I’d say around 300 degrees it will slide right on. I use the cone heater easy for me transport but they are expensive. I’ve seen guys use hot oil and of course a oven. If all the above it can be hit on by using big OD iron pipe but very risky due to damaging the bearing. Hope it works out for you 👍🏻

that heater is awesome!! I need to get me one of those! wonder if a heat gun would be able to get it hot enough?

Heat gun might take to long, I’ve seen guys use a little portable oven.

Thanks Aaron. No arbor press needed? Is it always that easy to get new bearings on with heat?

Heating them is the best way if you can. I was tapping them on at first, I was able to pick up that heater from grainger it’s small enough to fit in a bucket and big enough for bearings up to 8 inch diameter.

Curious on why u went from shielded to open bearing? Shouldn't u keep it the same as OEM

The motor had zerk fittings for greasing the bearings. When the tech who does maintenances on the unit comes he well start greasing all the motors that have zerks. Baldor should not be putting in shielded bearings with zerk fittings that is misleading and will cause motor failures in the future.

@@hvacslayer2929 Thank you. That's what I was thinking as well.

What size bearing puller did you use?

For bearings I have two that I use. Both are OTC one of them is a big claw type that can be adjusted for different lengths or legs can be removed. Other one is double side with two adjustable lengths. I also use black max puller for pulleys and sheaves.

where did you get the bearing?

Any motor/pump shop would carry them. Just give them the bearing numbers.
