Kharagpur-Midnapur: A short compilation of the entire complex Kharagpur Yard

- Myself and a friend Srijit had emraked upon a daylong trip to Adra-Asansol and back. We took the 12885 Aranyak Express from SRC in the morning for Adra. The 12-coach train, hauled by a BIA WAM-4 that day, takes the KGP-MDN-BQA route to Adra. We got a fantastic view of the complex Kharagpur Yard on board the train as it took the BBS bound tracks after Kharagpur. The tracks of the Hijli bypass pass beneath us and then meet us just after the MEMU shed. We procced stoutly only for the UP TATA tracks to divert and go straight towards Kolaikunda. We pass below two bridges, one carrying the DN TATA tracks and the other carrying the tracks from the Nimpura Marshalling Yard. Finally we meet the single track that had diverted post Kharagpur for Midnapur before Gokulpur. After thatm we cross the Cossye River and finally pull into Midnapur meeting a stationery passenger there...

I somehow came across this channel and I could not control myself from commenting. Brought back nostalgia from 40 years ago from college days. From time to time we used to take off on our bicycles just to explore places near the campus (IIT). BTW, you missed video-taping all the Halls of Residence very close to the track (BBS -KGP). Those are RP, RK, LLR, JCB, Patel, and Nehru (There may be new halls in between).
Nimpura was always an intrigue and I never could figure out the layout of tracks.
One fond memory was to forget about the bland mess-food and sample the todka-roti at the dhaba on Bombay Road (5:14 of the video?). This was forty years ago.
Indeed, the train takes a very long route to Midnapur (the saga contnues). Coming back is of course a lot shorter. As opposed to that, we could be in Midnapur from campus in about an hour and a half on our bicycles.
Those were the days....
thank you so much sir for sharing your memories of college days ... this is what makes my upload more special .. when viewers can relate to what they see ... i missed shooting the halls as i was unaware of them back then (this was shot in 2013).

so. muxh of bifurcation, track changing etc happening at a speed > 70 kmph, thats the beauty of KGP, oflet there has been comparison drawn b/w KGP & GKP as the later has been able to snatch the title of longest PF in the world, still the vastness of yard, punctuality of KGP Div, SER all much above NER by any means... _/\_KGP just wish BWN too had this much of space to build such a vast yard in the Eastern counterpart of HWH.
Kharagpur is an emotion hands down!

Just a small lame correction,
At 1.13 - both the straight tracks are not down tracks from TATA, the right one is indeed from TATA, but the left one is the down track from BBS.

I just keep coming back to this video as it wonderfully untangles the complex mesh of interconnected tracks. The one thing that might actually be missing from this video is the bifurcation of track for KGP bound trains from BBS. The track comes from Hijli, goes right below the TATA bound track and keeps left until it bifurcates. After bifurcation, it offers views of the marshalling yard and KGP workshop that are not visible from this video. Please correct me if I am wrong. Also, in the jurisdiction board of ADRA and KGP, there is a mention of a station code called "KAF" (stands for Kharida Ph). It can be found on Google but there aren't much details available. I am wondering where is this station located. Don't remember spotting it anywhere.

hey its so confusing......which part is Mednipore line ...the line which go rightmost after kharagpur or which one???.............................only 1 line i knw is the bombay line nd i thnk on the left side is the sambalpur line...??? and the line which goes towards eastcoast is dis correct
Joy Ghosh from kgp most right side line goes to midnapur via giri maidan. And middle one tata sambalpur bombay whatever you say. And left one eastcoast.. in nimpura cabin there are bifarcations and connections line between these 3 routes.
