    PSA - I have an INT650 and I always keep a coating of 'Muc-Off Bike Protect' spray on the aluminum covers and have absolutely zero corrison so far - they still look like new.
    ...I do a re-coating at every chain clean & lube. Easy-Peazy!

      I have to take some blame for this, after thinking on it... it has been 5 months since I last waxed them, time flies because sure doesn't seem like that long ago.

    Very good info, luckily my interceptor and GT are in the garage mostly and in Australia there is not much condensation to worry about but i will us auto solve and an electric drill with buffing pad every now and again. I think this is the lazy way of avoiding too much effort. Good on you love your videos. Regards Lester, Queensland Australia.

    Gotta Himmy and an Inty. I must say I luv polished alloy. Once you got it the way you want it it’s easy peasy to keep nice.
    I always find lacquer dulls the polished finish; so I keep mine polished.

    Good lesson for me. My Kawasaki W650 is the only machine I have with polished aluminum casings. Now I know how to behave. Thanks!

      The best advise seems to be more frequent generous coats of wax to prevent this from even starting in the first place, so I have to take responsibility here as its been about 5 months since the last wax application.

    Thanks for this one Voodoo! My Interceptor picked up some corrosion this winter in Kentucky. I keep the bike on a carport under a motorcycle cover. Now I have a good plan to combat the crud. Thanks again.

      I had assumed overhead cover and plenty of ventilation would help keep corrosion at bay but it looks like more frequent generous coats of wax are going to be in order.
      You could probably do a better job than I did here with more specialized abrasives and polishes but as I said Im not looking for a mirror finish.
      Good Luck!

    This is an owners Problem, I like it well said, I love these bikes they are what they are and I love what they are and this is just part of the experience of owning one and doing these little things. Things like that is when I put on some music, get my stool out to sit one and enjoy the process great vids. Also as you said when I do my valves is when I do my cover, however I use a polishing wheel. Just an FYI, there are as many ways to polish as there are polishes. some do better than others and some are easier than others, this Guy is doing a nice job.

    Excellent video,I’ve just bought a Interceptor but I did buy it knowing full well one has to keep an eye on the corrosion problem here in the UK that is part & parcel of owning any bike that needs to be looked after, I don’t mind spending time on keeping on top of it as I think the Interceptor is a brilliant bike! Look after the bike & the bike looks after you! Enjoy your ride!👍🏻😎

    Keeping the aluminum looking good is part of owning one of these. I don't want any protective coating, plus it is so little to do compared to the bikes I grew up with.
    Keep 'em straight down there in Rockbridge Co. Now, wear those fingertips down .... 😊

    Finish it with a good paste wax . I wax mine about twice per year. Never need to sand it again.

    Elbow grease = ❤️
    A coating would be my route as well. I’m a rider. As long as I can stay ahead of corrosion I’m happy and if coating that makes it happen I’m all for it.
    It’s always seemed funny that on some inexpensive bikes they put “chrome” over plastic and they don’t kin to aggressive elbow grease.

      @@UncleVoodooI got ya, yeah, i think my 1st bike had polished covers, it was a 88 VT 600 and i didnt know you had to keep up on cleaning them as well. they ended up pitting and i painted them just to watch the paint flake off in a year.

  • @MostlyInteresting
    @MostlyInteresting 5 місяців тому

    you going to need some solvent something strong like acetone to get that wax and oils from that polisher out of the paint area. But that might also take the paint off so what do you do.?

    • @UncleVoodoo
      @UncleVoodoo 5 місяців тому

      actually got it off by spraying WD-40 on the spot and letting soak for a bit and then working it with a stiff toothbrush, took several tries but its about 95% gone now. I can still see the spot faintly, but no one would notice it now unless I pointed it out.
