They were both amazing performers. David truly was spectacular at such a young age. It's a shame he was taken from us too early. Flair was incredible, as always. I love how they did this match. It was extremely competitive, but David just kept one-upping Flair, really building the impression that David was the next big thing.
Rocky Dennis wasn't ever getting the belt for more than a week. Looked goofy, no physique, lanky, shit in his teeth. Wouldn't have drawn a dime outside dallas.
To put this into perspective, David was about 23 here having a match with the greatest of all time. If David lived he'd have gone down as one of the best ever.
Texas heat! Great psychology. Made us believe. Being a kid in Texas w World Class & MidSouth was awesome. David would've been a great Worlds champion; Kerry was greatness just couldn't overcome his addictions.
Ric Flair has high praise for David Von Erich. You can tell he really admired him. Says he could have been the world champion. Flair feels that of all the Von Erich’s, David was the best. Great interviews with Flair on the Von Erichs here on You Tube.
If David von Erich would have lived. Not only would he've been one of the greatest of all time. But I could see him right now retired and taking over his dads business
The 2-hour Saturday Night Wrestling/Championship Sports promotion from Fort Worth was consistently a better TV product than the syndicated WCCW/Dallas version…despite the latter making them famous nationwide.
He would have DEFINITELY won the belt at some point but he wasn't going to keep it for long stretches like the Nature boy...Flair just drew money as champion 👏☝️
So david would have changed wrestling? LMAO yeah ok, the von erics were a joke. They were horrible on the mic and would have failed in any other company long term. Daddy had to create their alleged greatness and outside of texas they failed as favorites.
@derekgarcia1030 You are right!!! They were meatheads!!! Total bush league!!! Kerry was the dumbest one of all, then Kevin and Mike was like a zombie!!! They weren't the redest apples on the tree, that's forsure. I live in Ft. Worth, and I would go every MO day night in the 80's to see the Freebirds!! They were the best, not the dope filled Von Eric's!!! David was a drunk, and a huge pill head! So sad!!🥶💯😳
Monday,10/11/82 (WCCW) From Fort Worth, Texas Will Rogers Coliseum( maybe Championship Sports TV Taping ?) Match joined in progress 18 minutes into: Referee Bronco Lubbich- NWA World hw title Match Ric Flair (NWA World hw Champion) beat David Von Erich via DQ after Kerry Von Erich claimed apron, Flair attacks Kerry on clutches . A Cameo by Kerry Von Erich, & Bugsy McGraw (a Babyface wrestler) Post match David & flair brawl! 💯l This probably aired Saturday 10/16/82 on TV 📺
You had to experience this in person . The audience would become rabid animals. My dad was a police officer who worked secondary as security and these wrestlers had to be protected as the crowd threw chairs, assaulted the police, it was like the OK corral. I sat in the stands as a 12 year old on the edge of my seat. These guys deserve so much more. Like Rick says, it wasn’t fake, it was choreographed. There’s a difference. RIP the Von Erichs
David was supposed to get a 2 year run with the NWA Title when he passed away, had that happened, had Magnum TA not had the car accident, would Ric Flair have 16 world championships?
holy fuck is this good. no need for a clean finish, so.they don't do one. guess david airballed the blade try after going into the post. sometimes post-match schmazzes like this look dumb, with guys breaking away from like 10 other wrestlers to continue the fight. but this looks believable. flair going after kerry on his crutches is just great.
Yes David was 25 shame I loved world class wrestling they was with the NWA 😊 Vince seen that I don't watch current wrestling it sucks now old time wrestling 80s I do love stone cold , undertaker Brett Hart ect too but to today's wrestling sucks

Ric vs David would have been great
Rocky Dennis wasn't ever getting the belt for more than a week. Looked goofy, no physique, lanky, shit in his teeth. Wouldn't have drawn a dime outside dallas.
Who’s here because of The Iron Claw movie?
Me
Me
I'm here, because this was my childhood!
You want the 1985 match. This one doesn't have the claw and DQ
To put this into perspective, David was about 23 here having a match with the greatest of all time. If David lived he'd have gone down as one of the best ever.
I agree, he was big in St. Louis too, went over really well. Had nothing to do with his father. He really had it.
This brings tears to my eyes. This brings back so many memories of world class especially will rogers on monday nights!
I grew up watching championship sports every Saturday night. This brings back memories
Texas heat! Great psychology. Made us believe. Being a kid in Texas w World Class & MidSouth was awesome. David would've been a great Worlds champion; Kerry was greatness just couldn't overcome his addictions.
Agreed. So much time devoted to the story
You really see how tall Dave was in this match. If he would have worked out more he would have gone right to the top. My favorite Von Erich.
He was 6’7 I don’t think even if David worked out more he would have been super ripped he had the body of a basketball player
@@TravisLoneWolfWalshhe was billed at 6’10 lmao, dudes a giant
@@TravisLoneWolfWalshYes, and had he either Kerry’s or Kevin’s physique, he would have been number 1 in all wrestling!
this was a year before i started watching wccw... thanks for posting
Ric Flair has high praise for David Von Erich. You can tell he really admired him. Says he could have been the world champion. Flair feels that of all the Von Erich’s, David was the best. Great interviews with Flair on the Von Erichs here on You Tube.
Yes, according to Flair and others, David was the best wrestler. Kerry and Kevin were athletic and great physiques that carried them.
If David von Erich would have lived. Not only would he've been one of the greatest of all time. But I could see him right now retired and taking over his dads business
I agree! We would be looking at the Von Erich’s running all of wrestling instead of Vince McMahon.
I cant stop watching this /WOW Go David Go 😳 You Got This .
The 2-hour Saturday Night Wrestling/Championship Sports promotion from Fort Worth was consistently a better TV product than the syndicated WCCW/Dallas version…despite the latter making them famous nationwide.
It must be forgotten just how good David was. I loved the clean "nobody home" chop defense early in the match😎
david really understood the business and how to sell
I truly believe David would've been an all time great.
Holy shit. This is so great!
if David would have lived wrestling would be so much different today
Yes!!! But he still wouldn't have topped Slick Rick Flair!!!!❤😂
Flair, was the man!!!!❤❤❤
He would have DEFINITELY won the belt at some point but he wasn't going to keep it for long stretches like the Nature boy...Flair just drew money as champion 👏☝️

I miss the von erichs so sad
Whomever uploaded this…..THANK YOU
Ric said he loved working with David
Protecting his little brother! Thats how you stick together.
that's someting a lot of people in the arena, and watching at home, could relate with.
I got only 1 thing to say and that is this. WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Damn Ric Flair was a badass
The greatest of all time

Who called for the bell? Bronco was counting…one…ding ding ding. WHO CALLED FOR THE BELL?
@0:20 the work begins and it's absolutely fkn beautiful 😍
What could have been with David
This is just classic
DAVID WOULD HAVE BEEN A GREAT DORY OR TERRY FUNK TYPE CHAMPION
Just watch this match on Peacock better quality
Ric said he lived working with David
In the 80's the NWA and WCCW was so much more realistic and better than the cartoonish WWF!
That was wrestling.
David was supposed to get a 2 year run with the NWA Title when he passed away, had that happened, had Magnum TA not had the car accident, would Ric Flair have 16 world championships?
Yeah because he was always going to be involved
Hell yeah
Yes, it probably would have been back and forth reigning champions among David Von Erich, Ric Flair and Tommy Rich.
david a great wrestler
holy fuck is this good.
no need for a clean finish, so.they don't do one. guess david airballed the blade try after going into the post. sometimes post-match schmazzes like this look dumb, with guys breaking away from like 10 other wrestlers to continue the fight. but this looks believable. flair going after kerry on his crutches is just great.
Listen how loud that crowd is.
No Ric Flair fan but KVE had no business out there, got what he deserved!!
Didn't realize David was so Tall!
I think he was around 6ft 7
There was another match where David banged Ric's head into a crutch several times. He got disqualified. Bang bang bang! Ouch!
Man this so legendary, later Shawn Micheal’s woulda had also a legendary match with ric flair way later on,
Bronco Lubich!!!!
I can't help but wonder if David died from a kick or punch to the abdomen that caused his intestines to rupture.
Yes David was 25 shame I loved world class wrestling they was with the NWA 😊 Vince seen that I don't watch current wrestling it sucks now old time wrestling 80s I do love stone cold , undertaker Brett Hart ect too but to today's wrestling sucks
🎉😮😊🗾🇯🇵
Entertaining times. Too bad the Von Erich boys were such train wrecks.
Things well everything gets worse as time goes on this crap thdy call wrestling now aint worh watching
i hated ric flair... and didn't care for kerry or david... kevin would have been a great nwa champion.. as a baby face
The von erichs were over but as far as wrestling the sucked
