    My dad did this type of work in northern Alberta for 6 years before he could become a drilling engineer; these people deserve way more respect than what society gives them.

      @BobsUruncle-dl7cs I can't stand guys like you on the patch, always talking about how great you are as an individual(you need no help) and claiming the old days were so much better. Your type are actually a huge danger to the rig because of how cocky you are and because you refuse to teach new guys stuff. Met plenty like you as I was breaking out. Usually miserable because of all the debt you have and the ex wife you're paying for.

      1. Have a long term mindset.

    I remember watching a show called “The Rig” where the Tool Push was named Donny. I can barely find anything online about it. My guess is that the industry didn’t like the way the show shone a light on every “Rig Pig” stereotype there is; and a LOT of safety stuff. For example, they showed the guys going from the site to some lounge (Fox Creek maybe?) and the boys getting absolutely polluted plastered- then going back to work hours later while they obviously still had a lot of alcohol on board.
    I don’t work in the industry but know people who do. It really bugs me when my own family members in Ontario have this belief: “Oh yeah, anyone with a grade 8 education can easily go and make $200k in the oil patch for basically doing nothing!!” It was funny and satisfying when I asked why they weren’t in Alberta picking up all that easy cash instead of working for $16.50 in Brampton?

    • @lovesloudcars
      @lovesloudcars 6 місяців тому +1

      I know Donny. Haven't talked to him for a bit, but worked with him before he was on TV & then again afterwards.
      He grew up a bit. Some of the stuff they did certainly didn't help the "rig pig" stereotype, that's for sure.
      Hard work some days with that job.

    • @jaymiller6009
      @jaymiller6009 6 місяців тому +2

      @lovesloudcars Hey, thanks for the reply!
      From what I recall of the show, Donny was “That Guy” who was fair but firm and worth every single penny they paid him because he knew every nut and bolt on the entire rig and would rarely have to call in help for a problem because he could always figure out a solution himself. Guys like that are few and far between; in any industry.

    We turned our service rig into a drilling rig to drill out cement (casing leak fix). Two of the most boring days I've ever had on a service rig.

    Ох и намотает его ротором когда ручки клиньев подцепят. ВБТ запрещено кидать в шурф руками, только крюком. Инструмент затащили без защитного колпака, перед свинчиванием не протерли, не смазали резьбу. А, ещё удивлён как это они не цепью свинтили трубку!) Всем буровикам удачи!

    This is a rathole connection. You set the kelly back and pick up your tool joint with the elevators for this. It is the type I broke out on. But we didn't have top drives in those days. We used the spinning chain. It's rare to see this type of connection any more.

    Got a noob question so don't bash if it sounds dumb...but when they are putting the "rods" together, and screwing them into each other, how do they know they aren't cross threading the threads? Seems like on the videos I've seen, they very roughly throw them together, clamp them, and just start screwing.
    Thanks.

    • @justaquestion1934
      @justaquestion1934 6 років тому

      The torque is insanely high and the taper is very steep, the two combined make the threading "snap" into place so it can be tightened without spending time lining everything up.

    • @jakerichardson8149
      @jakerichardson8149 5 років тому

      Tapered connections allow for self centering connections

    • @klassky17kingklassky81
      @klassky17kingklassky81 5 років тому

      Plus the thread doesn’t do anything really it’s the fat lip called the seal that the torque basically welds together. Casing is threaded. These are cup ends.
