Put simply, Sean Rowe is one of my favorite songwriters ever. His music and that voice are as honest and unfiltered as they come. "The Long Black Veil" may have been written by Lefty Frizzell, but most people, myself included, know Johnny Cash's version. Sean's take on this classic holds its own quite nicely against The Man in Black's and listening to him record it over the headphones is a memory I hope this flaky brain holds onto.
For this session, we used Peluso Microphone Lab's 2247se on his vocal because a classic voice deserves a classic microphone! Sean's guitar sound is a blend of acoustic and amp'd so we used Peluso's P-84 to capture the acoustic and placed their tube-ribbon TR-14 on his Fender Princeton amp.
All audio for Yellow Couch Sessions is recorded and mixed by Steven Foxbury of Yellow Couch Studio. Video for this session was shot and edited by Matt Dayak.

That’s the 2247se routed through a UA 4-710 pre (all tube) to a UAD Apollo.
@@yellowcouchsessions7036 thanks. I purchased the peluso 22-251 about 8 years ago love the mic just didn't fit my voice perfectly though but a great Mike. I still have it. In fact I did a shootout at my buddies Studio with the peluso 251 up against his vintage AKG C12, a vintage Neumann u-47, and a vintage Neumann u-87. We used acoustic guitar and vocals. Both myself am my producer friend thought the peluso absolutely blew away the Neumann u87. To our amazement with a little bit of tweaking on the EQ and the gain, we were able to get the 251 to sound a lot like a C12. Did not have quite the fullness on the low-end did not quite have the amount of air on the top end. But still was close very close in overall character to the C12. I don't think you can compare the Neumann u-47 in the peluso 251 they're just two entirely different microphones. I was so impressed with the peluso 251 that I went out and bought the peluso p67 two years ago. Last week I made it official and round it out The Collection with purchasing the peluso 2247 SE. I'll let you know how it sounds after I check it out. Such well-built microphones with great sound
Have heard a number of Long Black Veil versions, big Cash fan, but Sean’s version is the most beautiful and haunting.
