@@RoyRissanen Happily still so. Homegenous nations work way better, because they have common language, culture, habits, religious beliefs, nation's character,appearance etc.and thus common goal. Eventhough we are made to believe vice versa by media etc. You are an example, you want to come closer to your ancestor's people, where you easily relate.

Yes Estonia is a difficult language and as mentioned with traps. Word such as "Piim", in Finnish "Maito", in English "Milk" the trap here is that "Piim" is quite close to the Finnish " "Piimä" which is sour milk. Yep when I visited a Estonian grocery shop for the first time, it was confusing as there was lot of "sour milk" in the cold and no milk anywhere.

I am amazed how much canadian nature resembles finnish nature. Also northern parts of USA like Minnesota and Montana look very much like Finland. Your finnish skills are good. It is easy to understand what you are trying to say. Keep practising and you will eventually master the language.

By the way, a random story: when my mom was small in the fifties, she said she wants to be a woodcutter in Canada when she grows up. I guess that was when many finns moved to Canada... Been thinking twenty years can I distinguish Finnish forests from those on the other side of the bog. Finally got to see yours over there, much obliged. By the way, of course you will have many views as we Finns regard Brits too high-pitched and love the great American gas guzzlers while the poor settle burlying up their sound by guzzling gas on a park benches. So part of is your accent when you speak English, you have the best accent for Finnish ears. You also have great charisma like Leslie Nielsen or the hoborable chief Eric Lassard. What's more, Finns always dream of moving to America and Canada, so they are always hungry for a peek. Keep up the great work, I'm sure these are real people and not bots oggling over

You know, there's a song about the spirit of Karhu and the power of the forest, it's in Sami with lyrics video in English & Fin, but I just see them brothers of the same tribe. Even the language is so similar in structure. One of the best lines is that there is more power in a grey boulder in the forest than in a atom power plant. Finns and Sami alike used to pray at special grey boulders pointed by the healer. I'll add the links below in another comment in order to copy 'em

If other Canadians see you walking in the forest alone, seemingly talking to the trees in a strange language, they will think you must be from Finland. Hirveä (hirvee) = awfull Hirvi = Moose As a quad lingual person I find it sometimes difficult to find the right words to express myself in the proper language. especially if I've been away from a specific language for a while, feels like the hard drive takes a while to boot up. But in a week or so I'm usually up n running like a native.
It's a funny feeling to try and get your brain and mouth to put together all these new sounds. Probably like moving all the letters around on a keyboard after you have been typing for years.

Thank you Henkka. There are small pockets of forest around here that match Finland well. That's why I tend to go back to the same spots. :)

Thank you. Honestly, the one thing I would recommend is repeating words and phrases to yourself or just slightly out loud when you hear them. Practising getting your mouth around the syllables.
Your Finnish is coming along nicely. Did you speak Finnish at home growing up? My Finnish is crap given that i spent the early part of my life in Finland.

As a quad lingual person I find it sometimes difficult to find the right words to express myself in the proper language. especially if I've been away from a specific language for a while, feels like the hard drive takes a while to boot up. But in a week or so I'm usually up n running like a native.
It's a funny feeling to try and get your brain and mouth to put together all these new sounds. Probably like moving all the letters around on a keyboard after you have been typing for years.
