- Contact/email: matt@golfsidekick.com for collaboration/partnership opportunities I first started playing golf in 1997 at the age of 11 or 12. This is my first ever Golf Club where I had a membership. It's called Uitenhage Golf Club and it's my favorite goat track. Lots of memories here.

I don't understand how you don't have more subs. These are the best golf videos on youtube. Showing the shot tracer on the course map is such a simple but awesome feature
People cannot handle the truth and enlightnment
@@GolfSidekick - J.N. shouting in the court room "You can't HANDLE the truth about Golf Sidekick!!!" - I need to see that movie again...
he showed the work involved with producing it..i tip my hat to this channel for all the effort and i ove it. but i think a story about how someone from Lithuania growing up in SA and now in Thailand who posts on IG about getting passports finally...well that is the story that drives movies
Uitenhage GC…. Waddacourse! Also my first membership back in the 90’s…. Watching this brought back all sorts of nostalgia…
Great channel, great vibe.
Those that don't start their golf journey on a goat track probably cannot appreciate a mint course as much...imo
Hear, Hear!!!
I’m almost sure that’s why my dad forced me to play the worst courses around here when I started..now, I take him to the nicest courses around here, he’s a good man and deserves it for showing me this great game
@@jas9239 exactly
thanks for the shout out for the aussies and our bluegums, great channel and u have helped my golf and mental attitude no end, thanks for making golf fun and to be better at it regardless of the shot!!
Bluegums are massive. The smell of them always reminds me of my childhood
you have helped me more by changing the way i play the game more than any swing fix ever could have! You're the man Matt!!!
i did this the other day. my father and i golfed avidly in my youth, as i grew i put golf down for almost 15years. well, 3 days ago we played our old home course again. MAN WHAT A DAY!!!! great day with my dad and shot my best ever score at that course, 79!!! whata life!!!!!
so cool to see a south african giving lessons and can relate to the courses we are playing. Really love your channel !
I'm glad to hear you're a Litho, Matt. Your attitude, humour, dress sense, sibling names, and love of golf now all make sense.
You're slayin' it playa! Love watching your Vlog, Matt. You have helped me in my golf game already. Keep posting your game, please.
That swing.
I love that swing.
#Whaddagolfshot
Love your home course.
It's always interesting to re-explore a course from your past.
Oh man! Uitenahge is my hometown! I played school golf here. Right now I'm living abroad but going back to visit soon. Hahaha and that Par 3 has been the bane of many! And true what you said, growing up here it was sad to see the decline of the course (and town) in general. Uitenhage truly is a place people just leave... It's sad! Anway, Can't wait to hit this memorable couse :') Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
This is my "weekend golfers" blueprint. I have applied several of your philosophies and have seen significant improvement. Keep up the good work.
Lovely memories for you pal, and not a bad knock either. 🏌️♀️🏌️♀️⛳⛳👍👍🍺🍺
Have to say a few quarantine weeks not even putting or chipping and watching you..... strait up balling now.
Stress free ONLY ✅
Positive attitude = stress free golf ✅
Course management ✅
safe landing zones✅
Cut the b.s - no flop shots/hit sensible ✅
In my 30s, 22 handicap and a lefty. normally git driver 12 times a round and normally bubba style. Make 4 fairways there normally!
Never had a lesson but played most of my life. Dont hit handicap ever. Play once a week normally and dont practice at all.
Since starting again a few days ago, 4 rounds 4 days nothing for the 8 weeks .....
Hit handicap 3 times out of 4!!!!
Mental attitude is 80% of golf you have definitely Improved me by 10 shots.
Cant really believe it!
Way of the player!
Nice up and downs! Whadaplayer! Loved the story of making that birdie at 12 years old. My son did a similar thing. That birdie made him a gold addict! LOL
Cool to se whee it all started. I often think about the courses i played in the WC...2 of the 3 i frequented are still open. Sandy and dry. Water is a major issue there. The scariest off all was when I returned to the one that closed..it was f-ing haunting to see the entire course covered in waist high grass. Just looked like big piece of veld. Tragic
funny story about your first near hole in one. I had my first pin striker trying out for my high school's golf team as a freshman, probably my first year of play. Haven't even come close since then! Holed out eagles from 185, 130, 65, since then but never sniffed another hole in one in 25 years of play!
My best memories are playing the goat tracks around Johannesburg, Fourways, Ohenimuri and Southdowns with great friends 30 years a ago.
I was thinking my god he is pushing all his shots to the right and on hole 9 you finally mentioned it!!
You’re the man Matt!
I wrested a seagull the other day on my home course, plucked him mid-flight, and defeathered him and planted several future birdies.. He was pretty pissed and I haven’t seen any rewards for those planted feathers. Maybe bad golf karma?
Also played at that course , I’m from PE and played at little walmer every single day , your videos made me play way more because you don’t make it about playing birdies every time so thanks , I get coached by a guy from uitenhage and he’s your age maybe u know him his names nic, anyways keep it up boet
Awesome stuff Matt! That 3rd on 18 was certainly no WOTP!!! Just glad it didn't come back and take out your cahones!!! :)
Love your videos Matt. Been watching you for a few years. Best out there by far. Its great seeing your channel blossom into playabaus status. Greasy hips bro, greasy hips.
Another enjoyable watch. Loved how you smacked the tree 😁
like a woodpecker
"nothing wrong with that club "
Minute later.
It snapped when it fell of cart
Something wrong now 😂😂
Thanks for another great vid, Matt. Cheers
Wow, I played Uitenhage in a junior golf tournament way back in '97, think i shot the same number too in fact, ha. Can't believe how different it looks. You're right, it definitely looked great back then. Such a shame.
I like the riveting on the green side bunkers.
Thanks for the memories.....
Mate. I am an Aussie and that was a great effort to go over those gums on the first 👍
Cannot wait to see the scores with the new M5 and confident driver thoughts!
Those bloody gums! Love your work mate
First time I ever broke 80 was in a central va golf association tournament my junior year and I shot 1 under 70 and birdied the 1st playoff hole to win the tournament i didn't shoot over 75 the rest of the year this taught me the most valuable lesson in golf which is golf is 99 % mental 1% mental .
Nice video, loved the trip down memory lane
Up & down game is on POINT in this vid. :)
LMAO Gotta love the Blue Gums, take a trip Down Under and enjoy the Magpies that come down from them.
Hey great video keep it up learnt alot from this
Broooooooo.. Here in 2024 and i always knew you were a Saffa but couldn't place it ahahaha. Mega love from PE bruh!
Why does it feel like he changed his voice to seduce me
great video and golf couse!
Fool me once....You got my hopes up. Thought you were going to show me Parkview. Man the place has changed. See they've honoured Bobby Locke. Had the pleasure of walking many a round with him caddying for my dad. Learnt a few things but was way to young to appreciate who I was talking to.
That one will come one day playa. Maybe end if this year or something
Amazing ... my track as a lightie was Umbogintwini golf course KZN South coast at Amanzimtoti .... ❤
My home course🙌🏻wadda goat track 😍
Cool like the club twirl
"WHY DO I LISTEN TO THE FU**?!?!" 😂😂....I felt that one...
That’s some serious Oscar Bravo!
Enjoyed.
Driver snapped after the bag fell of the cart? Yeah, thats what I usually say to the wifey when I wrap it around a tree :D
That putt on 2 was nearly epic
Quite cool to see someone from Uitenhage doing big things on UA-cam.I'm from PE and you ever find yourself this side of the world again we should hit a round together.🤙🏼
Uitenhage was where my golf career started.
What an experience watching you play a course I know and was also a member of. Shot my best round ever there - 80 Medal. Please call me for your next round in PE Area :-)
Yip blue gums are a pain in the posterior we have them here in New Zealand as well
How do you compare the goat tracks of Johannesburg? I am from Melbourne and I found them super hard but always fun. The layouts were also always fantastic 🏌️♂️🏌️♀️
Commentary continually improves. Absolutely hysterical. Two suggestions: Bleep the profanity and wear a belt. Keep up the good work and get your sissy working, we need more from her during the shutdown.
Thanks Playa
@Jim Oakhills , 'Oh, fiddle sticks' just doesn't cut it my man.
Sister is editing the greatest video to ever grace my channel
Luv the tuba
SA represent !!!
That's a tough 80! D:
Good Game Playa! When are we playing Pinnacle Point??
Wadda intro 💪
Use the way of the playa the other day and shot one of my lowest scores 86 and only lost 1 ball main thing was I felt great after the round
Played there a few times....
You should link up with rick and peter. Would love to see you guys play with eachother
can you explain what you meant by the lower 7 beating a normal 5 iron. In my mind a 3/4 5 iron would beat a full 5 iron in the wind.
Hi Matt, great videos! You make it look so easy. Quick question, what software/app/device you use to track your shots? It looks so cool ! It's like watching the golf channel. Thanks :)
Nice.
Just discovered your channel and love it. Esp the break down in thought process which is help for a player trying to break 80 myself. Also, what camera and stand are you using to capture your rounds?
On a couple of holes on the front nine, you hit 9 iron from 200+ yards away. What was your rationale for not hitting a longer iron?
hole 4 is a tuffy - miss that green and your short game is under some huge pressure
Ahhh Matt, I feel your pain broke a driver the same way, trolley toppled over and bam 😥 heartbroken 💔
Some years ago at this course, I hit a beaut drive on the par 4 2nd hole smack down the middle of the fairway...it's a mystery as to what happened to it, because I never found it...
Hey Matty, i must have missed something... Where the 2 iron gone?
Another great video Matt. I would love to write some music for your channel. Let me know if you're interested. I am fairly experienced at writing and recording in the studio.
Loved hole 3 and the prep and execution for that par saving putt!
Matt do you use a mark on your ball for putting?
Nice vid
rarely see you hit control fade , if you can learn that shot on your approach you will be scratch handicap, or are you already now?
The place I played my first round, Willow Lakes (later renamed The Course At Westland) is now a large apartment complex.
Sad.
Blah Blah I worked at Willow Lakes when it was being sold. Lakewood course was shut down and The Troon course was not in great shape. Mark McCumber did a decent renovation and it was okay for a while. I played Hyde Park when I was 11. Can’t believe how bad it was last year when I played it.
That thar was some good country music on 15
Good second on the 16th.
Going to get a new shaft or a totally new driver?
I learned to play on a goat track in north TX. $5 for unlimited golf.
What ball tracking program do you use?
Fm, thought there was something sketchy about you. Saag Uitenhage!
Matt, you are starting to sound like David Attenborough
Snapped your driver... Time to bring out the big youtube money and just revamp the entire bag👌👍🏻😂
they don't get that much
Chicken Lips it was a joke
@@evancrissman1226 over my head. Kak joke lol
I went back to my home course after not playing it for 14 years. It was amazing to see how differently I played the course with golf knowledge compared to a testosterone filled teenager.
You should start 1080p and 4k videos! :)
It is 1080
You're a lucky man--the first course I played no longer exists.
Would have shot even par if you hadn’t switched out the inesis shoes for the Nike’s
this course can be a thing of beauty, but yeah, cabbage patch pretty much sums it up.
there are a lot of courses like that in SA in my opinion. Some of the smaller towns have some GEM courses
Nothing worse than falling apart on the 18th when you're on track for a sub 80 round...
I wish that tuba guy (TM) would stand on the right side of the video every time you're about to hit a sjurrie and start playing his instrument while the ball is still in the air...
Baus is the Brandt Snedeker of UA-cam
lost my temper many a time on that course lol
Interesting pronunciation of Uitenhage. I'm a language nerd, sorry for that.
Gum trees are nature’s way of reminding you that you are not as good at golf as you think you are.
And known for throwing stones, playa. I was born there.
Lost the wayyatheplaya on the 18th Matt....unlike you. Have a word with yourself!
anyone gets the lithuanian reference?
I’m now lithuanian playa
@@GolfSidekick sorry i haven't been on the channel for a while, so probs missed that video! don't know if you revealed all the info yet but still wanna know your back story. saffa living in thailand, ? do you have a day job ? now lithuanian... haha keeping it mysterious... anyway boet, greetings from a cold cape town!
Hey Bauss, whats wrong with your voice ?
