I lived in Duesseldorf many years ago and to be honest it is still my favourite place that I have ever lived. Hopefully one day I'll be able to get back there. In the mean time videos such as yours keep me in touch with this wonderful City. Thank you.
Hey thank you for your videos. I have been following your channel since 5 months. Finally I landed in Düsseldorf from India. I’m just loving this city.
What is important to note tho is that Düsseldorf is the 7th largest city of Germany when it comes to population but only the 75th largest (!) when it comes to size. That’s why it feels so walkable and small at times. In my opinion the perfect mix!

Cycling everywhere in Düsseldorf in 25 minutes ? Try doing that going to Kaiserswerth or Garath, you will be lucky if you succeed covering the distance in that timespan by car....
Thank you for bringing some more UA-cam expat attention to Düsseldorf. I can agree with all of your likes for this city, which - as you pointed out - is so much more (and very different) than its cliché. I also like that it is situated between the Lower Rhine flatlands and the hills of Bergisches Land. If you are missing the "Voralpen", you may want to take a ride on S9 from nearby Essen to Wuppertal. Some years ago I took this train together with a colleague from Bavaria and as the landscape got greener and more montaneous he said that the scenery reminded him of the "Voralpen". This area south of Hattingen is also called the Elfringhauser Schweiz. You might like hiking there. Btw. - living in Düsseldorf, it can take some longer trips, too, to visit "local" friends, as Düsseldorf is situated right in the middle of the Rhein-Ruhr metropolitan area. So it's not uncommon to have friends, jobs, or appointments in the cities of the Ruhrgebiet to the north or, say, in Cologne to the south (or Mönchengladbach, Krefeld, Wuppertal ect.). But having all these cities nearby is a big plus, too, of course.
Very cool! I really like Düsseldorf every time I visit there, even as someone who happily lives in Cologne! It has a special mixture of the typical Rheinland friendliness, the chick and elegant aesthetic of a „big“ city, a somewhat cosmopolitan atmosphere and the pride of being the capital of Nordrhein-Westfalen. Thanks for another brilliant video 😀!

I think Düsseldorf does not have so many touristic attractions as other cities in Germany. So the majority of tourists stay in the Altstadt (Bolkerstraße and Königsalle), cause that’s like the most interesting part for them 😅. So the further away you get from the altstadt the less tourists you will find 😊. Our favorite neighborhoods for dining and drinking are Pempelfort (Nordstraße), Flingern (Ackerstraße), and Unterbilk (Lorettostraße). Also when the weather is nice locals love to bbq and picnic in any green area 😛

To my observation, approximately every several weeks (or a couple of months) there's at least one suggestion attempt for them to speak in German. I personally don't feel so strong about that, since what they're doing has a whole different purpose, and it works.. not just well, it works magic. Now would I enjoy and appreciate and actually get to learn from such venture? Yes, I would. But on a realistic note And in my personal opinion if ever done in the future, it has to be a sequence, not an entire episode. Well after all, just to test it.. on us! 😅
Wow Fanny, how attentive are you, bitte?! 🤩 hahaha yes, it's crazy how many times we get asked to speak German. Maybe one day we'll speak for a few seconds 😉
@@simplegermany Ok, it's easy for me, I've seen, read and paid attention so far! Of course, it's not as easy for so many other folks who just need a quick answer or just burst out their curiosity. As I said, this is not the purpose, nor the niche, and I understand that! I'm one of your biggest fans, for just who you are! Every single episode so far has given me so much more clarity and confidence!! Just... even if we happen to joke or tease, I believe you are able to distinguish that. I don't shy away from being genuinely honest, when I see something, I say something.

Düsseldorf had a great influence on modern pop music. Kraftwerk, NEU!, La Düsseldorf, Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft, Rheingold, Die Krupps, Propaganda, Mouse on Mars...
Schumacher and Uerige, the two best known Düsseldorf breweries. When I lived in Düsseldorf (in Unterbilk) in the mid 90's it was a common occurence that a buddy and me went pub hopping almost each weekend. We always ended up in the bar "Kneipe", which means literally "Bar" for the Absacker, the last drink. It was also our style of music in there. We always joked that there was one club on the Bolkerstraße / Bolker street that changed its name and owner roughly once every six months or so, because it always was a) totally overpriced, b) massively understaffed, and c) completely unappealing. Due its low income the owner always turned up bankrupt after the six months. After that time another idiot decided it would be a great idea to throw good money after bad, buy or rent the club, refurbish it completely, reopen it, and go bankrupt again within another six months. We always dropped in at the beginning of our Kneipentour / bar tour, looked around, found the atmosphere to STILL be lacking any kind of attraction or appeal, turned around without drinking anything. It became something of a ritual for us.
The last negative point is not realy as bad as you see You have some very nice nature in the neigboring towns Mettmann (where i lived for 3 years in the beginning of the 90) and Erkrath and the Neanderthal. Which can be easily reached by car u or s bahn or bycycle Yes no mountains but you can not have all
Hey guys, thanks for all your work and the information! It's all really helpful! I just have a quick comment; I have lived in Germany for a while now, and experienced living in 5 cities in the South, North and West of the country. Düsseldorf is a beautiful city, I just cannot seem to feel comfortable or claim my place in the city's overall society. As a brown person, 9/10 Düsseldorfers in day to day life are so rude to me, and always treat me with disrespect. This does not seem to be the case for my white German friends. People here also seem to be very uptight and stuck-up, way more than the average in Germany. Such is never addressed by your videos though. Could it be solely my ethnicity / complexion? I do not know though if I would recommend anyone not white to move to such a closed-minded city.
I'm sorry to read that you've had such experiences here in Düsseldorf. Everyone's experience is different and it's also a process to find a place to feel comfortable and maybe one day call home. I (Jen) have been living in Düsseldorf since 2012 and have not felt this type of discrimination. On the contrary, I find the people in this city to be super friendly and my experience has been positive and I feel at home here. So I cannot talk about the opposite scenario, because I have not experienced it personally.
I am an Amazon Warehouse associate and I have temporarily employment. When my employer extends my contract but i refuse to sign it because I have stress working there. Can still claim unemployment benefits?
@@inotoni6148 I live in Düsseldorf and don't believe these people. It is extremely unsafe for you to go, the Altstadt (old town) and nearby area is full of immigrants, bad youth and such. Any nice area in town, is automatically for very very rich people so be prepared to pay more just to feel safer. I wouldn't advise you to come here. Southern Germany is way safer and not as Zogged out as Northrine Westphalia. My unpopular opinion. Be prepared for the seething Düsseldorfers that will attack my comment. Don't come here.
My friend has just retired from the Police and lives in Düsseldorf. Just spoke to him and he says that's rubbish! The media probably had nothing better to report?

And they do it almost all time.telling the medias oh yes we are gonna built some extraordinary Skyscrapers here. But nothing really happens.I wonder why? In this time they built a whole new skyline in Frankfurt
I'm from Berlin and lived in Düsseldorf for 5 years. I had an amazing time job wise but I really didnt liked the city. I always was homesick with Berlin. For me the best City in the world. What I really didnt like about Düsseldorf was the always moist and smelly air due to the geographic location at the Niederrhein., the amount of car traffic and narrow and thight, close build of the streets. People were sometimes also too concernded with other peoples business. What is a bid disgusting is that many people/houses store their trash cans in the cellars. In the summer very smelly. What i liked very much was indeed the Paradiesstrand, the general friendlyness of the locals, the Unterbacher See.
Strange, I was in Dusseldorf few weeks ago, I have stayed there for 10 days, and I will definitely never go back. One of the ugliest, smelliest, dirtiest cities I have ever visited. And people are so unfriendly, finding place with gluten free options to eat is a huge challenge!

@@simplegermany Es wäre schön!
Great video. Thought you would talk about airtrain too! Is it not so famous?
We don’t have an air train in Düsseldorf. The popular one is in Wuppertal 😊 there is a mini self driven train at the airport 😅
Aah soo!! My google knowledge 🥴🥴. Dank-youuu... 😊
Love the "Dank-youuuu" ☺️ -J
😍😍😍
Thank you
Can you talk about Ausbildung? ( Vacational Training)
Wow! This got me really excited for my move to Düsseldorf. Maybe we'll bump into each other and share some beer! Tsüüüüüüüss!
i love düsseldorf so much
Hi! Maybe somebody can share they experience of living in Rath district?
Which + or - it has?
Does the talys stop in Düsseldorf? Or do you have to travel to Achen first? My brother once got stuck on a rollercoaster at the "Kermis". Not so fun at the time, good for a nice story now. Have you ever been to the nearby Neaderthal? Grüsse aus Venlo.
Yes, it does! And yes we have 😊
It does stop at the Central Station in Düsseldorf it goes all the way to Paris with stopovers in Cologne,Aachen,Liege, Brussels and Paris 🎉
Hi Jen. What did you do for speaking English so good? taking into account that you are from Guatemala. I am Spaniard and I am trying to do this but is not so easy at the moment. Any tip?
I like so much your videos. It is very useful and informative. Thank you so much. Regards!
Hay tolles Video!👍👍 I live in a smal city between Stuttgart and Pforzheim till the present day I did not visit Düsseldorf for vacation ony for taking a flight at the airport but I deffenetly will in the future. What do you think about the citys in Baden-Württemberg? Have you been there jet?
Liebe Grüße
Katharina 😘😘
Hey Katharina, we know Ulm and like it 😅
I really need a video "Good and bad neighborhoods in Dusseldorf" or just comment below please. Me and my family are relocating to Germany Dusseldorf and don't know in what neighborhood to look an apartment. Thanks
I really like this video because am an Italian citizen and would like to immigrate to Germany with my family. As being said that düsseldorf is a best place to live in, my question is as a truck driver would I get a job opportunity with a good salary?
Please suggest how to find accommodations for students in Düsseldorf? I have been trying since last 2 months please help.
I would recommend you get in touch with your university and ask for their help. If they cannot assist you, then our guide (www.simplegermany.com/renting-in-germany) or video (ua-cam.com/video/WRGwFJviOIU/v-deo.html) might be helpful.
All the best of luck 🍀
If you guys cant find any affordable accommodations in Düsseldorf there is a Chance to find some in its neighbourhood Citys like Neuss or Wuppertal or Ratingen
All and each of these 10 reasons separately And combined, perfectly scaled by the way, is what made me chose Düsseldorf over Hamburg! So glad you did this! I didn't know about the beeaach!? 😍 I was ready to concede this would be a thing I'd miss, but there it is!! And no worries about inadvisable swimming, I never play 'Michael Phelps' even at the Black Sea summer vacations either way, I just prefer pools for swimming. 🙂 The Japanese culture is plain beautiful from what I've seen and heard.. and omg you mentioned sushi, I'm in love with it here in this small Eastern European country's second city.. so let alone There! About the fashion side and capital and 'fuzz', I'll stay quiet for the moment, hopefully there's a good reason why. Thank you, girls!! ❤ 🤍
You’ll love the sushi here as well 😊
@@simplegermany But you know what? Don't leave Dusseldorf! The mountains, they're not like 20 mins away from you, that's true, but so what!? 😃 Didn't you turn your car into this cosy and practical travelling van?.. Ooops sorry, Just sayin' there's more than enough of options for you to have things both ways, without really moving. I love your episode and I'm happy you reflect on things I also consider high about Düsseldorf! The city size, the population, and what's even more important - the people climate. 🤸
Yes, that is very true! The mountains are a somewhat short ride away ⛰🚐☺️
@@simplegermany This was a gut feeling what I wrote 15 hours ago. ( a couple of beers in, a gut feeling, but I'm not sorry, and these are the best 🤣) Of course you'd do what drives you. Virtual high five! ✋

1 hour travel to meet "Friends in Berlin". I have rarely known an adult non-German migrant with German friends.
The Population rises year by year at the moment Düsseldorf has about 650.000 citizens.the Metropolitan Area or how the locals call it Speckgürtel of Düsseldorf has about 2 million citizens .this includes Krefeld,Neuss,Ratingen, Langenfeld,Monheim Erkrath,Hilden,Dormagen, Mettmann province,Meerbush,Kaarst
Want to visit in about a month but concerned with global problems ruining the experience.
Thoughts?

I am having a hard time finding a job a qualify for. I know Deutsch isn't necessary and I am at a B1.2 level, so almost a B2. I know there are jobs out there and I would think it would be a little easier since I have some Deutscherkitnesse and very good pronunciation. Any help would be great. I follow your channel and it has helped a lot.
Hey! Thanks for your question. Yeah, looking for a job can be tough sometimes. Recently we have partnered with a super cool company called CareerBee (careerbee.de/). They help international people find a job in Germany and have so many cool tips on how to navigate the German market.
If you are interested, you can write them an email at team@careerbee.de and let them know that Simple Germany referred you. Luca or Laura, the founders, will get in touch with you and point you in the right direction.
We wish you all the best in your job search! 🍀
@@simplegermany Danke sehr 🙂
Düsseldorf had a great influence on modern pop music. Kraftwerk, NEU!, La Düsseldorf, Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft, Rheingold, Die Krupps, Propaganda, Mouse on Mars...
Hi everyone,
Which are the most suitable neighbourhoods in Dusseldorf to live in? Is there any information about this?
Thank you 🙂
What do you define as suitable? Any area except the area around the central train station is totally fine.
Nice video! How about visiting in Schwelm? I wanna know more about that small town since I will be assigned soon there. Thank you!
Dont forget Füchschen and Schlüssel Brewery very good too and outside the city is Bolten Brewery the oldest Altbier Brewery in the World
Frankenheim Brewery just outside of Neuss good too
I live in Düsseldorf
Really enjoyable one. Good job. Could you also make a video on life in a city in east Germany , Dresden?
That’s a tough one since we haven’t lived in Dresden 😉
@@simplegermany right. Anyway thanks for the reply. I was looking for how life would be for an expat in Dresden.
Düsseldorf is clean, cleaner than Frankfurt am main 😂
❤hi, 👋 please making videos for road showing around country 🙏
This is my recommend to both okay 👍
The last negative point is not realy as bad as you see
You have some very nice nature in the neigboring towns Mettmann (where i lived for 3 years in the beginning of the 90) and Erkrath and the Neanderthal. Which can be easily reached by car u or s bahn or bycycle
Yes no mountains but you can not have all
Very true! thanks for your recommendations ☺️
The Römerweg between Erkrath and Unterbach! Very nice views!
Could you recommend me for the apartment. Thank you in advance.🙏
Ich liebe Altbier
I actually kinda miss Jen's chuckle after "smoothly".
Awwwww 😇 maybe it’ll come back 😛
DDF is the best place to live
This is gonna be on my list of places to retire to in about 10yrs from now, single old asian man with no debt by then, lol.
Do you two communicate in English, Spanish or German together or all of them maybe?
Infused English 😉
Hi, guys. i would like to ask Can I have unemployment benefits after 8 months of employment?
You can find all the info in our guide: www.simplegermany.com/unemployment-benefits-germany/
I am an Amazon Warehouse associate and I have temporarily employment. When my employer extends my contract but i refuse to sign it because I have stress working there. Can still claim unemployment benefits?
what about nightlife?
Hm, I wonder, is it still safe in Düsseldorf? There have been more and more reports of stabbings in the news in recent years
We feel very safe. Here you have the regional crime rates of Germany: www.statista.com/statistics/1081057/crime-rate-in-germany/
@@simplegermany Ok, thanks
@@inotoni6148 I live in Düsseldorf and don't believe these people. It is extremely unsafe for you to go, the Altstadt (old town) and nearby area is full of immigrants, bad youth and such. Any nice area in town, is automatically for very very rich people so be prepared to pay more just to feel safer.
I wouldn't advise you to come here.
Southern Germany is way safer and not as Zogged out as Northrine Westphalia.
My unpopular opinion.
Be prepared for the seething Düsseldorfers that will attack my comment.
Don't come here.
@@MXedits_1 It is safe as any other town You might know.
My friend has just retired from the Police and lives in Düsseldorf. Just spoke to him and he says that's rubbish! The media probably had nothing better to report?

The Major of Düsseldorf is way too conservative.Düsseldorf needs more Skyscrapers with offices and Apartments.there are some Projects in work but some were put on hold.

And having lived in Berlin for five years, Berliners are slightly more on the moody side, innit? Prefer the Rhineland. Each to their own!
Shame you had such a bad experience.
Has a Japanese person in world war II Japan and Germany was a big-time friendship I love Japan 🇯🇵 Germany🇩🇪🇯🇵🇩🇪❤️🥰😍😘
