I have never seen this kit look so good. It's such a tricky kit to build. It's amazing what you've done with it considering how difficult of a kit it is to build.

Thanks, I put off building it for a long time because I knew how much work it would be. Next to the various Enterprise ships, the C-57D is my favorite so I had decided to at least try. It's definitely not perfect but I'm ok with where it is. I think it'll look pretty good once it's all set up on it's display.

Man, my eyes went wide when I saw the paint job. Gloss will unforgivingly show flaws, but Boyd, I saw no flaws. This model is a show stopper! Thanks for sharing. Nicely done Boyd.

wow sir your model looks better than the movie !!!!! i tried this model my self 15 yrs ago and it beat me , beautiful job

Thanks, the kit takes a ton of materials like filler, primer and even more sanding to whip into shape. Also a lot of workspace to build it with huge flat surfaces. Understandable why it gave you problems.

That gloss finish really works and the mix of lights is a great idea. Can't wait to see the new dome on it!

that thing is looking magnificent, my dude! I can't wait for it to be fully completed with the diorama and the ID monster attacking!
I'm 58 years old now, and I remember the first time I saw the movie, on TV in 1971, and it scared the crap out of me! and that 7 year old little boy in me wants to take that model and play with it! reenact that scene!

Thanks, the movie had a big impact on me as well. It still holds up today and looks fantastic on Bluray on a big screen.

That is so beautiful Boyd, better than it looked in the movie, that gloss is just wow and with the lights too I half expected the darned thing to actually fly. Can’t wait to see it finished.

This is a heckuva thing, Boyd. Yes, I am making good progress-- I am building a slow-speed turntable in order to come closer to perfection. Gotta say, your interior is a beautiful "set piece."

Great build Boyd. Love the gloss. Heightens the quality of the saucer. Hmmm . . . I think I know what the 4th button is for, but I don't want to possibly spoil the surprise. 😊

I think I would have preferred a matte finish, but the work you’ve done is just fantastic, Boyd. Really impressive!

    • @TrekWorks

I really went back & forth on a matte or gloss finish. Took a few days to decide and to me the gloss just made it pop a bit more. Who knows, someday I may get a bug and decide to dull it back down.

Must say the finish on the top of the saucer looks beautiful, you were dead right going for a gloss . This is one kit I would love to make but just have no room, so at the moment it's still in my stash of kits. Also you can't really see any imperfections. Definitely a build to be proud of.

    True Story, Boyd --
some guy in North Carolina had THE ORIGINAL C-57D Space Cruiser model with the running engine light until at least 14 years ago. It allegedly sold at auction some time after he found out what it was he had in storage in his garage for years. How he got it, I don't know but he obviously didn't realize what he had until he did some checking!
The model was allegedy sold by MGM in 1970(?). It was in storage in their prop department for years. It was only for 6 episodes of Twilight Zone after Forbidden Planet wrapped production. After MGM sold the model, nobody knew its whereabout for close to 4 decades.

    • @TrekWorks
      @TrekWorks  2 роки тому

I came across a video on YT that showed a small display of original Forbidden Planet props from just a couple of years ago. They had a 22" C-57D that still had the working spinning effect below although it was super noisy. Also there was one of the control panels from the navigation console, an original blaster pistol and one of Robby's original gloves. Supposedly there were 2 models of the ship that were made. Many people thought the large version was destroyed in the Twilight Zone episode that it was used but that was not the case.
