@@GetYourSaxTogether very well deserved chap. It’s something I want to do myself … my wife bought me my first Alto for Christmas, 16 years ago. I did my grade1 jazz on the alto and then bought a tenor and did classical grade 2 but never really did anything else … I’ve had a lot of mental health issues that have robbed me of all motivation to do the things I love. I signed up to your newsletters about a year ago and still get them and I keep thinking that you have provided so much hard work in all of the material that you have put in your newsletters and the transcription of all the music in your tutorials on well known work. Just wanted to,let you, know, from my own situation, it’s making a difference to me as I am gradually warming back up to the thought of picking my saxs up again. But keep up the great work chap. Doing a great job 👏😄😄😄
Really appreciate all your efforts here - its one of the best sax solos ever... so haunting and with the story that the player lost ta finger - such a tragedy...
Awesome Jamie .. I have been playing alto for a few years. One of mine and many others all time favourite tunes ... determined to master this over the coming months . Thank you .
Jamie you are just the best for doing this. Having just watched you play it, I can see that the 1st 4 notes are pretty complex and difficult!! The breath control is amazing too. Well done for doing this, just the best
To be honest, up until watching your video today, I’d never heard of Hazel O’conner nor Wesley Magoogan. However, after watching your video and listening to that awesome sax solo, I had to peruse UA-cam university to learn about both of them. Pretty interesting interview of Hazel with Iain McNay and sad about Wesley’s accident, but it seems to have allowed him to spend the kind of time with his son that he probably wouldn’t have had if he still played sax. But that solo! Very soulful and stirring! One of the best I’ve heard. I’ve spent quite a bit of time today listening to it over and over again. And you, sir have definitely done it justice with this video, in my opinion. Love it!
Wow this guys a magnificent teacher. Thanks for this sir , thankyou so very very much . I actually feel that j can finally learn the ultimate sax solo that it literally really did alway make me want to learn the sax but never believed in myself. But you have just worked a miracle with my self confidence and beliefs in myself . Thankyou so very much . Ive wanted to play this since i was a 12 year old when it came out . Youre an absolute mega star .😂
Many many thanks for this one, I am one of those who took up sax to play this song. Tip for PC UA-cam users the shortcut keys shift + < to slow down and shift + > to speed up playback. Thanks again, now I’ll get to see how many notes I got wrong!
If you've watched this or many of the other YT videos that Jamie has put up and you haven't bought him a coffee yet..., and you can afford to, you really should! Thanks, Jamie. 👊
@@GetYourSaxTogether Well, here we are again Jamie after almost a year. If I'd not found this video while looking for the original, I'd not have bought a YTS480 last September, and I'd not have have joined the Inner Circle yesterday. Woohoo ! ! !
Great you did this Jamie, have not played my Alto for years and it was just sat in the corner looking forlorn! I used to play this, so pleased it mostly came back within an hour, talk about muscle memory! Just got to polish now and I promise that my Alto is back in the arsenal 😁
Masterful as usual Jamie. You couldn’t have done a better job either as a transcription or tutorial. Extra kudos due to you because I don’t believe this one was a labour of love?
Great Jamie, you are the best saxophone you tube content provider out there. You go into so much detail and provide all the tools for free! Fantastic! Do you have any tips for getting that growl on the high F#?
Oh Man, I just sat down with this tutorial to have a go and tried your slow youtube down tip. I’m sure I’m not the first to mention it but speaking at half speed you sound just like Keef Richards (maaaaan). 😁
Jamie, can you please give an answer to the passage at Breath 6 of "Will You" if you are Growling each note A B D E# F# E# as I am having trouble working out how you phrase this section correctly, and making it sound dramatic like as in your video. Thank you
That’s a stunning solo and so many techniques too so I can see what you mean about it being a total beast to try and transcribe let alone play the piece !!! Unfortunately my tenor has the alt C palm key spring broken and I’m having a tough tome getting it repaired or replaced from the company I bought it from. It has a 2 year manufacturing guarantee & the Sax is about 19 mi the old …. As soon as I get it sorted this is one I’m going to attack as it’s going to be like Your Latest Trick, a total monster but when learned will be such a showpiece to play too. Thanks for this Jamie and can’t wait to see the next one !
Brilliant... as ever, and a world away from what my effort sounds like! Growling those top notes - how is that done? Hard enough to squeek them out at all? If need to hum when growling then can hear the hum and doesn't growl anything like Jamie's!
Thanks Jamie , another amazing lesson in transcribing and performing ! I'd forgotten how beautiful this solo was . What is the bis key sliding rule ? is it featured in one of your lessons ? Thanks again .
Love the blooper at the end. That's the first phrase I focused on after I first printed the PDF, before even listening to your great breakdown. Really great editing putting together not only the sax score, but I presume you're also doing the backing track and all the other stuff. Real PRO presentation, as always. I wonder if Wesley Magoogan made a very cool choice or fortunate mistake with that G# on breath 10, even though it really doesn't fit the underlying harmony while forming this bright E major against the minor chord under it. Also a bit curious why so many requests for this tune as it really didn't make a bit hit here where I live.
I can’t hit that top note on the alto. I’ve tried for a year to hit it and I just struggle . Any advice on that high note as I’ve tried going from the note below to get to it!
Dear Sonja. My 50 year old alto doesn't have a top F# as most newer saxophones have. Jamie has done a video on the altissimo register for alto which may be worth watching as he gives many different fingerings as these can be different depending on the make and model of your sax. You may need to practise using overtones as well. I have always used LH 1 & 3, + RH 1 & 3 + the Eb pinky key for top F#. There are many better fingerings for this which Jamie demonstrates and are probably much easier to use for the phrases in this solo. If your sax already has a top F# there may be other issues such as air leaks etc. Only a suggestion. Good luck and best wishes. x
Dear Sonja. For reference I am using an old clunky Yamaha YAS-21 (which I repair and tech myself) with an original Lawton 7*B. I know I should buy a newer model alto, but I have become so attached to it - it has become a part of my life and soul, and now seems like part of the family with the 'musical mileage' attached to it.
My alto is a Trevor James Classic that I bought in a guitar shop ! I’ve had it serviced and it’s a great beginner sax. I need to work on my embouchure to get the note I think. Just by watching Jamie’s other videos I’ve learnt loads. It’s difficult when you start an instrument later in life and you don’t have lessons. I love what he does; he’s a true inspiration 💫
