...Mabye Canada? Quebec really wants independence, and that may snowball into a independent British Colombia, mabye a united Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, a US annexation of New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and an extremely weakened Canada. Newfoundland and Labrador would probably be annexed into Quebec. Honestly I don't know what would happen to Yukon, Northwestern Territories, and Nunavut.

2- UK (N Ireland unites with Ireland, Scotland)
      3- Somalia (Somaliland)
      4- Belgium (Waloonia?)

@@TylerSolvestri Yes, but the Qing ruling class pushed sinicization on their own people for stability, and so now most Manchu people are indistinguishable from Han Chinese. Without sinicization it's unlikely that the Qing would rule for over 250 years, just look at the Mongolian Yuan dynasty as an example.
Historically, there was another Northern ethnic group that sinicized so much that they disappeared from history: the Xianbei, who ruled northern China for a few centuries. The ruling class of Xianbei systematically abandoned their original family names and adopted Chinese family names. The ruling families of the subsequent unified dynasties (Sui and Tang) all trace part of their ancestry to the Xianbei people, but they are considered Han Chinese nonetheless.

China is encouraging han Chinese to move to these regions to ensure they indeed have a han majority everywhere. So a territorial split is unlikely. At best it will be more like Ireland and Northern Ireland, than full on soviet collapse. So at the end China wouldn't lose that much territory.

I am a Chinese, in fact, if China may split, it is Tibet that is most likely to become independent rather than Xinjiang, and if China is divided, it is most likely to be divided into the southern region, the northern region, the Tibet region, and the southern and northern regions will fall into endless wars, and Tibet will fight with the winners after the north and the south have divided the victors. The Chinese masses attach more importance to civilization than to race, so no matter what ethnic group, we pay more attention to whether this nation is part of our culture in history than to any race.
This belongs to different ideas produced by different histories, because China has long belonged to a unified state, and since the Qin Dynasty, the ancient countries in this region have believed that only those who occupy all the land here can be considered legal, so we have a strong attachment to unification, and any country in this land also tacitly has the right to conquer the entire land. So we don't understand why, after the dissolution of ancient Rome, every country that was divided was legal, and in our eyes, only by retrieving all the land that was once ancient Rome can it be considered a legitimate state.

The Western media always promote human rights and the Dalai Lama, but not the Tibetan slaves at that time. Then use these dictators as pawns to divide China. And granted, thats exactly what happened with Pakistan and Bangladesh, but even after the two regions full of muslims was separated from India proper, India today still has a sizeable muslim majority, which could split the country even further by this logic.
this is not even taking into account of the various sects of Hinduism, the Sikh population, the Jain population, the Buddhist Population, and the ways of life different regions lead (rajputs, people from punjab, people from bengal, and people from the south and centre of India all lead very different lives, and the major uniting factor is simply religion. however, when a religion is as seperated into different sects as Hinduism is, the result is similar to that off which has occured to the middle east.)

Perhaps something like a clever use of the federalisation concept could allow everyone to win.
Beijing could retain overall control at the federal level, but allow say Xinjiang, Tibet and Mongolia to each have an additional local government to which some authority would be delegated, allowing regions that cause friction with Beijing to retain their distinctive characteristics.
Trying to force large numbers of peoples in distant places to all conform to a prescribed culture is likely to result in wars eventually.
You can force soneone to behave in a certain way for a time, but you can't change what they think deep inside, even with psychological conditioning (which is truly horrific).
Neither can you change the commonality they have with others of like mind.
Federalisation would all but eliminate unrest, without losing the territory.
It could conceivably even form the basis of a treaty with Taiwan, establishing a connection with Beijing.
No-one in the entire human race can really be forced to conform completely to something that is too far removed from their own culture.
But that doesn't hinder alliances and federations.
But that's all just speculation, as I am a Brit.
I'm quite fond of the Chinese peoples and their original cultures though, and I would like to see more harmony and prosperity there; just without the coercion, force or brutality, as these don't serve the interests of any of the peoples.

I like this hypothetical question and although it is indeed possible that China could break up (because anything is possible) I think it is highly unlikely as the conditions that made this possible in the past are much less significant if not non existent today. Over the years the Chinese government (CCP) did a very good job in creating a sense of national identity in the minds of the different ethnic groups as well as the different Han subsets by creating things like a common language and building out connective infrastructure that made it possible for people from different parts of China to interact more easily. Today hundreds of millions of Chinese people live in parts of the country that they did not historically live and all of these things have greatly diminished the strong sense of regionalism that contributed to previous breakups.
Tibet and maybe Xinjiang could try to break away if China ever descended into chaos but they would most likely be reconquered again when stability returns to the country as it always does.

Han, emperor ling was a terrible emperor that only cared for women and wine, and for some reason was really greedy for money(despite being emporer) leaving power to eunuchs, leading directly to the han's collapse
jin, internal war cause by the empress whose son, the emperor who had a learning disability.
sui, terrible second emperor who wasted a million+ lives on failed military campaigns and massive internal works followed by him fleeing then parting the rest of his days away while his empire fell.
tang, internal rebellion by a general lead to weakening of imperial power to regional warlords who then usurped power and descended to civil war
song, losing wars to liao, jin, then finally mongols, external threat was coupled with a government system that favored an extremely weak military giving its general basically no independence of action
yuan, power instability with many quick successions of emperors, the later ones going on massive spending sprees on bribes, parties and women, using a years worth of taxes in like a month in addition to the then climate change causing crop failures and floods every single year that the corrupt and incompetent emperors could not deal with leading to massive peasant rebellions
Ming, 4th to last emperor didnt go to court for the last 20 years of his rule, 3rd to last emperor was only on the throne for like a year, second to last emporer didn't go to court for his entire 10 year rule. by th etime the last emperor ascended the empire was already falling all around
qing, the westerners showed up and got the empire addicted to drugs at the point of a gun, and do many other things at the point of a gun.
so tell me, which one of these was not external invasion or governance failures?
literally none was because of some irreconcilable differences between han groups internally that caused civil wars it was almost the entire nation conquered by external forces, or the citizens pushed to extreme and the peasantry across the nation rose up.

Though I do agree with your reasoning for why places like Tibet and Xinjiang would wanting to secede if given the chance. I think that your Mongolian and Han Chinese arguments are flawed.
I say that your Mongol argument is flawed, is because the Mongolians themselves are or at least were a collection of different people groups grouped together based on Language and Culture. Though that might sounds irrelevant and/or contradictory, if you were to look into the past the people we consider “Mongols” now were once a collection of different nomadic tribes who formed coalitions with other nomadic tribes to defeat and control other nomadic tribes from different coalitions, which also helped with cultural exchange. Though that was before Genghis’s time and even during Genghis’s time there still was a lot variety is “Mongol” culture and loyalties. Though, Genghis did issue a written form of Mongol language to be made. But then again if things really do get bad enough in China I do think that it is a possibility, though the majority of Mongol people are in the the Chinese province of “Inner Mongolia” and their homeland is the steppes. While each Sub-group of course has their own “Homeland”. But maybe Nationalism could spike.
Then there is the argument for the Secession on Han Chinese people from Han Chinese Mainland China, claiming that because they were ruled by many different kingdoms and Dynasties from time to time. It then correlates to them having a reason to break away. The reason this is flawed because if you were to look at it with the assumption that these kingdoms and dynasties were fighting under the same circumstances of Western European kingdoms then it would seem like a reasonable conclusion. But, since this is China we’re talking about, and not Western European kingdoms, we should at least expect there to be some differences. But also similarities and there surely were.
You see, whenever China would engage in another Civil war it would be local Warlords fighting each other, but what people forget is that they’re Officials, and for the most part usually belonged to a powerful families or “Clan” and these officials served under the Emperor, who was by the time of a civil war were either under the threat of having their power usurped by them by outright rebellious officials, used as leverage by a warlord to gain an advantage over other warlords, and/or being protected by loyalist, who may just try to usurp power later. So the people under the control of these warlords would’ve only seen them as officials who like them served under the same leader.
But if that the party fighting over control of Han Chinese land wasn’t an Official, but instead a Foreign one then nobody would’ve had any loyalties to them because they’re foreign leaders with a different culture. The Yuan dynasty ruled by foreign Mongol people was kicked out of Chinese land. The Qing Dynasty was deposed and replaced by a Republic. Both of which certainly aren’t respected by Han Chinese people. Not sure about the Jin dynasty but it probably would’ve gotten the same treatment.
There is then difference in Cuisine, Game boards, language and etc. Which doesn’t really make much sense, since here in America we have that too but we don’t have Americans sayings Acadian, Deep South, New England, (State)BBQ, (state dish), and etc dishes are better and we should secede because of it. Same with those other subjects. We still see each other as Americans. Just a variation in Culture caused by regional differences and isolation since you can’t expect people with a mode of transportation to start standardizing Culture down to the smallest touch only for new changes to occur caused by the regional isolation especially varies quite a bit in geography allowing for cultural isolation to take place. But than again maybe I’m wrong. But in my opinion only Nationalism would allow people to get upset over variations.
Though I certainly am probably wrong about some of these things to an extent. Since I am an American and you can’t expect a foreigner to know so much about a foreign country’s customs, history and etc. Though I believe I got my information from a credible source that covers Chinese and Eastern History being the UA-cam Channel “Cool History Bros”. I just hope my evaluation wasn’t terrible.

Sure there is a lot of variety in the mongol peoples but they all ultimately identify as mongolian not han chinese, think genghis khan is the greatest person to ever live and share more in common with each other in terms of culture, lifestyle and language than the dominant han majority. It's just too different which is why historically integrating the mongols in inner mongolia has proved very difficult where even subtle changes like forbidding classes in mongolian from being taught in school was seen as an attack on their identity. However, I do feel like if China was to collapse inner mongolia might not reunify with mongolia due to the han majority in the region that happened over centuries of settlement and colonisation sort of like the situation in northern ireland.

If an independent Tibet had won or if Mongolia claimed all of Inner Mongolia, it would've been the Central Tibetans dominating the Kham and Amdo (Qinghai) from Lhasa. Or the Khalkha (Outer Mongolians) defeating the Chahar (Inner Mongolians) and their Han allies. The shape of China today *is* political determinism

  • @众星弧光

In fact, if you want to imagine a country splitting, you must first learn history.
Manchu independence is the most impractical and completely illusory. After the collapse of the Qing Dynasty, Manchu people were basically all sinicized. Now Manchu is a dead language. In other words, the Manchu people should be regarded as the Han people in culture, which is the most unlikely division.
Secondly, Mongolia was gradually weakened after the end of the Yuan Dynasty, and was subordinate to the Manchu in the Qing Dynasty. In fact, Mongolia's independence was supported by the Soviet Union. Without the support of the Soviet Union, Outer Mongolia would not be able to achieve independence at all. Therefore, there is no saying that Inner Mongolia returns to Outer Mongolia. It should be that Outer Mongolia returns to Inner Mongolia. After all, the blood of the orthodox successor of the Mongolian Empire is in Inner Mongolia.
Then there is Tibet. The possibility of independence in this region is very small. Buddhism has spread in most parts of China. At the same time, the current Buddhist leaders in Tibet are authorized by the central government. This tradition has continued since the Qing Dynasty. If he wants to become independent now, he must think about whether his religious status will be challenged.
Finally, Xinjiang, the mainstream religion in Xinjiang, believes in Islam. This region is most likely to be independent, but to be independent, it must have the support of a strong Islamic country. At the same time, Xinjiang must give up its future economic development prospects.
If you make a conclusion, you should first realize that China is most likely to fall into civil war rather than division. Even during the period of the Republic of China, all warlords recognized the integrity of China, and all places wanted to seize the rule of the country rather than allow themselves to become independent. Therefore, you will understand that it is unrealistic to speculate that a certain region will become independent from a narrow western perspective. On the contrary, it is more reasonable to imagine a civil war.
To sum up, all this is based on the premise that the existing central government is weak, which will be difficult to happen in the next 50 years. If I can make a more reliable assumption, I think Russia will encounter big trouble after Putin's death. Outer Mongolia is weak, and it is more likely to return to China in the future. If Russia fails to elect a strong leader after Putin's death, China will have the opportunity to occupy the territory of eastern Russia. At the same time, there will be no super power in Central Asia in the next 50 years at least. Therefore, it is not impossible for China to expand its influence in the Islamic world.

China has certainly experienced multiple episodes of central government collapses and the rise of warlordism throughout its history, and so it's easy to speculate similar events for the country's future, but on a realistic level I don't see that in the cards. The sheer might of the Chinese police state, military, and historical mass migration of Han people into those areas make any meaningful independence movements pretty unlikely to say the least. That is, apart from some extraordinary setback for the Chinese government. Don't get me wrong, I understand the context of the video, that it's purely speculative and it's interesting to imagine what the country would look like if similar events from its past were reenacted today.

If China starts a Taiwan war and if US and EU helps Taiwan than that might trigger those country's to ask India for military access so they could attack inland China from the west while getting the fleet and planes attack from the east. If it will look like China will loose this hypothetical war some of these groups of people might see it as their change to 'get out' of the regime. It might sparkle rebels and separate.
That's a lot of speculation and if's I understand, but it's interesting to keep in the back of your mind.

After the disintegration of many dynasties, the Chinese summed up the harbinger of the demise of the dynasty.
Every time the dynasty is about to collapse, the following happens.
      (1) a very small number of people own a lot of wealth and land; (2) the rich who own a lot of wealth only have to pay very little tax to the government. (3) in order to maintain the normal operation of the government, a large number of taxes are borne by civilians with only a small amount of wealth. (4) military expenditure accounts for most of the government budget.
Judging from these circumstances, there is still a long way to go for China to disintegrate.🤭

Every small country that splits from it will strive to strengthen its own strength and strive to expand outward to obtain a competitive advantage. Each country has a population of more than 100 million, nuclear weapons, and modern armies. As a result, many countries in Asia will be annexed. And as we all know, the minority always get more privileges than Han.(yes,it's quite unfair to the majority Han).
so why do you think that the inner Mongolian will break apart from China

The White Paper on Taiwan is so ridiculous. It first says it's an "Indisputable Fact", then inmediately proceeds to list China's fairy tales from Cultural Revolution: Shen Ying's Linhai Shuitu Zhi, the nonsense expeditions, etc., as evidences.

      Ridiculous what ?
Even the Constitution of the Republic of China clearly states that Taiwan is part of China.

I already explained on comment why it's ridiculous.
