I purchased the Neo some time ago. And I found that unscrewing the bottom part of the porta filter and blowing onto it releases the puck rather effortlessly.
just broken my first Flair )) probably put higher pressure than recomended. That's what they replied at customer service: "Thanks for sharing this. Ihave never seen a breakage like this! This looks like they violently cranked the lever sideways. Even in cases of excess force, the Press Stand typically breaks where the portafilter holder is: This has to be related to improper use. This is not warrantable, as it would not occur if following the operation instructions." Thanks, Abbey, for your reply, but since the NEO model doesn't include a pressure gauge kit, you never know what pressure you're applying. That's when it breaks. On the other hand, if you don't apply proper pressure, you won't have any crema in your espresso. So it's one way or another.
we truly are sorry to hear about your mishap. please note you can choke any machine with too fine a grind such that water will not pass through the puck. pump machines will only continue to deliver set pump pressure, no more, so it can be more apparent that you have to give up on the shot and grind coarser in a second attempt. it can be tricky, however, with manual machines, particularly ones where the mechanical advantage is so larger (9:1 with NEO). even if you know your own strength, it's multiplied here 9x!! You should never need to apply more than 13-16 kg /30-35 lbs to brew with the NEO's pressurized filter basket; that's the equivalent of 117-144 kg / 270-315 lb of force on the brew base! we definitely do not want to see you without a way to brew espresso, which is why we offer alternative options to assist you when breakage is outside of warranty. if your reseller didn't have a replacement frame to offer at discount, please reach out to service@flairespresso.com and they can assist you further
@@FlairEspresso yes, you know me well! Lol I just filmed and posted my process on the Flair Facebook group. But I must admit I didn’t hold my brew cylinder when letting off the initial ramp up.... my bad. I’ve gotten in a bad habit of not holding it so now when I record the shots I still forget to hold it. Will you forgive me Andrew? Will the Flair community forgive me?!
what an out standing product, its basically got everything you could ask for in a starter espresso machine. What i like most is being able to maintain and upgrade it. I feel like that really sets it apart and is what convinced me to buy one. with normal espresso machines and most other leaver machines, when you out grow it, or want a better espresso you have to basically get a new machine. With this you can just get upgrades.
Awesome explanatory video! I was wondering how to get that piston out easier! Are u able to share a link to purchase that teapot? It seems perfect for what we need for preheating and it looks like the cylinder fits perfectly on top with no extra needed accessory. Also, I'd love to purchase that little square mat you used to place the accessories on 👀
Andrew, thanks for the great tutorial. I have a Neo on order. A couple of questions: 1) if i just leave the bottom cap and pressure valve off the bottom, will it work the same as the bottomless portafilter? 2) what's the best method of removing the o-rings w/o using a sharp object. TIA
Just as Lance demoed, you can brew without it and make espresso the normal way (resistance from bed of coffee). No need to remove o ring, it's on the part that you'll be tossing
@@FlairEspresso Sorry, I didn't make my questions clear. I actually had 2 separate questions 1) Lance removes the pressure valve, but he screws the cap back on so the coffee still goes through the tiny hole. I'm wondering if it's ok to leave the cap off, so you can still see a partial view of the bottom of the portafilter. 2) Andrew says to remove the all of o-rings periodically for cleaning/lubrication (not just on the pressurized portafilter), but not to use a sharp object. what's the best way to get theim out w/o damaging them?
Just received it today!! So happy with it!! Just wanna know if I could use the pressure gauage of the signature/classic since they are the only ones available in Saudi Arabia and it's kinda pricey to import them 😅😅
I’ve been using my neo for some time now and I always have to use so much less coffee with out risking choking and breaking the machine. How do you use 15g and a pretty fine grind with effortlessly pressing? I currently grind with a baratza encore at a 10 and still press so hard I also noticed my neo does not have the removable tips. Any advice for much appreciated :)

We've found that to be the best way to do so as well, but a little hesitant to suggest and demonstrate on camera for the case it turns viewers off 🤣
Knew this already by brewing with a Bialetti moka pot. And Flair, if Andrew was to demonstrate that on camera, it wouldn't bother me.
Should I lock the portafiler? I'm struggling to work out whether it should be on the open setting or locked.
I must try that pre-heating technique, seem pretty convenient.
Definitely!
