- In this Video I take a quick trip up to the High Desert in SoCal, somewhere in Johnson Valley to try out my new Overland Build so far. You can check out more photos @ / 80deuce_adventures .
Its the first time I have gotten a chance to get my Overland Build in its current state out for a shake down. I got a chance to try out my new Alpha roof top tent from TuffStuff Overland as well as the expedition rack I built including with the truck bed drawer system and accessories.

The gear performed flawlessly and the trip was amazing. The weather was great and while it dipped down to about 26 degree Fahrenheit during the middle of the night. It was a great end to the 2019 and a perfect platform for my Overland Build for 2020. I have a bunch of trips and other projects planned for the year so stayed tuned.

Truck bed drawer design and inspiration - • How To Build Truck Bed...
Carli or Thuren, IMO, would be your best options.
Sorry the suggestion. Just saw the timeline of this video and I'm sure you've already chose a vendor.
Thanks Todd...I decided to run all Thuren and so far very happy with it.
I recommend Thuren Suspension. I've been running Don's coils and leaf springs with 2.5 Kings on my 2006 Ram 3500 Megacab since 2007 or so and they rock.
Thanks I recently switched to Thuren system and it is smoot.
Nah Carli or nothing. Thuren is a close second.
Great video. I have the same truck, color everything, and I’m fixing to do the exact same thing. Great to see your ideas and a great job on the drawers. I’ve got some neat ideas as well. I have a bumper pull camper, and the kids are almost gone, so I’m switching over to something like this to better get out in the back country for hunting purposes.
jamison yoder love it. Thanks for the kind words. I have rebuild the next box since this video, I’ve just been too slammed at work to record and edit. Hoping in the next few weeks.
I run a leitner designs rack on 2015 ram 2500, and honestly like what you did better. A custom rack that works with a tonneau cover. I would love to see a video about your rack only, and focusing on what you used as far as angle iron size, rectangular tubing size, etc etc. Love custom racks over store bought.
ElBrisho Thanks man. I really like the Leitner racks they are pretty sweet. This just fit my budget a lot more. Sweat equity and about $500.
I am planning a review of just the rack shortly. Stay tuned. I started a new job and I am back logged with video editing....lol. Need to take a weekend and Franck our about 4 videos.
This looks heavenly!!!
Thanks it’s a really pretty spot especially in the winter.
Nice setup! Love seeing guys build there own rig. Kinda tired of seeing over priced fancy setups all the time
100% with you on this.
Thanks. I appreciate the kind words. I’ve always tried to be different and building something that I value more than just off the self items. Plus it’s a way for me to keep honing my skills.
Nice truck! Awesome channel! Subscribed.
Thanks for the sub! Really appreciate it,
Awesome lookin tent
Thank you sir. More videos to come.
Thuren Kings is the way to go!
Thanks...hopefully soon!!
Good shit bro! I wish I had the skills to do the rack and pull out drawers. That’s exactly the setup I would go with...to the T
eric brunner thanks I appreciate the kind words. Sorry for the late reply, been slammed at work with 70/80 hr weeks
Great shots - looks beautiful.
Thanks for the kind words. I got to try and keep my lady happy.
You need some led light bars on the beast brother!!!
LOL. Tru that. What do you recommend??
@@80DeuceAdventures reverse quad lights , spot light, flood lights some on the side left and right, a good winch 😂😂
@@americansniper5290 I got one check mark. I have the quad reverse lights. Working out what I want on the others. I may change it up and actually pull off the rack and tent. Still up in the air.
Nice video . 👍🏻
I have Dodge Ram 1500 looks like your truck ❤️
Thanks! 👍
AEV hands down
Appreciate the feedback. I ended up going Thuren. Couldn't get myself to hack the coil brackets. Just me personally. I do like what AEV is doing.
I'm stuck between a Dodge Ram and a Gladiator Overland Build.
My question to you is what will you be doing with either other than purely off road? How crazy will you be Offroad? Tow, carry people/family, etc....
I love the Ram does everything I want it to do and long term it will outlast a Gladiator any day.
The Gladiator has better approach and departure angles and should be a little more capable off-road, but the Cummins engine can't be beat for power, range, and reliability. The Jeep EcoDiesel just isn't a proven powertrain yet so I'd be hesitant to commit unless I was planning on selling after 5 or so years.
I like it!
Thanks
Nice video!!
OXOverland Family Adventures Thanks much appreciate it. I’m working on a few more currently to shoot out soon. Keep an eye for them.
What do you do when the temperatures get too low and don’t have anywhere to plug your diesel in?
Are you referring to my truck Diesel engine? I have not had any issues so far. I’ve had it down to 18 degrees Fahrenheit. I guess I’ll have to see if I hit sub-zero temps.
I have a 2016 ram 2500hd 5.7l 4x4 "Special Service" (retired state police) truck. I am considering the 2 1/2" puck lift for the front end.
I am curious to know... *why you aren't too happy with your 2" puck lift?
Hey there. Its not that its BAD....its that the angle due to the puck extending out the coil spring is exaggerated. The Ram spring perch is at a slight forward angle. The puck simply extends that angle out further thus increasing the spring bend. Again its not terrible or bad, its just is not optimal. I was getting noise from the spring as it flexed and cranked a bit. Also the travel is not as great as with a spring lift. I hope that helps. But honestly run what you feel fits your needs and enjoy the crap out of it and your trips. That is what its all about. Too many people have to have the latest and greatest. Honestly those are the people that rarely use there rigs. Just get out there and enjoy!!! CHEERS
Nice setup...I appreciate how you’ve done so much work yourself. Do you happen to remember the name of the channel for the drawer design? I want something similar for my Excursion. Thanks!
If you open up the discription, it’s the last line...third coast.
Nice job all around ! Do you mind giving specs on the rack , size of steel , anything you like or don’t like about how you built/ designed it ? Thanks
Thanks for the comment. The rack is made from 1x2 square tube steel. I used .90 thickness but could have used a thinner size to shave some weigth....I over built it. The rack is still not complete as I have to complete the dog kennel area in the front next to the cab of the truck. I did not weigh it but I would say its about 150lbs. I used about 30' of steel. Anything I would change??? I am not sure I would have done the removable rear 2 cross bars. I honestly dont see myself ever really using it that way. If I take the tent off the whole thing is coming off. I did raptor line it but almost wish I would have just rattle can painted it. If I chip it I have to get raptor liner spray paint to touch it up vs just any can of black matte spray paint.
Overall I am super happy with it though.
@@80DeuceAdventures Awesome rack, did you support it in the stake pocket holes? Or just drill through the top of the bed rail and bolt it up.
Do you have a google doc or some resource that you could share you fab plans/dimension for the custom bed rack you made? I have a 99 F250 Crewcab Superduty that I am wanting to overland rig and would like to just make my own bed rack just the way I want rather than spending a ton on a premade one
Unfortunately I didn’t draw it out . Mostly just scratched. Shot me your email and I can share with ya
Are you running stock 3.42 gears? That’s good mpg compared to mine on 37s and 6” lift I only get 14mpg and 15 on the highway.
Hey Taylor. Yes I am running the stock 3:42's I am debating stepping up to 4:10 or 4:56 but that may be to tall. But its gonna be $2400 for front and rear not including lockers that I may as well do at the same time since its all torn apart....which would add 1000-1500 for both.
Cool spot... Wheres it located
The area is called Lucerne Valley/Johnson Valley. In the High Desert region of SoCal.

The ram mount for the dash where can i find it
I bought on Amazon. Simple search from ram track mount
When I try to open the shell only the left side wants to open and it wants to warp to that side, any ideas?
djisar sorry man that blows. I’d say the hydraulic shock is bad or something is binding.
