99% of people in the UK are driving on summer tyres, summer tyres harden at temperatures below 7C. At night time in the UK it's below 7C for at least half the year. Most people in the UK would be better off using something like Michelin CrossClimate tyres.
I know right, I can't drive yet but I've heard you start in second very slowly and if possible put as much weight on driving wheels as possible ie if RWD put heavy things in boot.
I don't think we get snow often enough for people to learn how to drive in it properly. I was very impressed with my car last time it snowed badly though. I live on a hill and the road was blocked by stuck drivers, so had to go up an adjacent steeper road - but car went straight up past all the stuck FWD cars - a Golf, an Astra. And I don't have an XC90 but in fact a twenty-two year old RWD car.
I get that uk peoples dont have winter tires but, bruh this is sad... I am driving in snow/ice daily with bmw while its like 5cm snow and never had a problem with it even first time ever I was driving in winter without a single problem
I put 4 snow tyres on in the winter and they help massively, I drive for a living so I need to be able to get about. These idiots are the reason that it's sometimes better for me to stay at home.
Very few people unfortunately are going to spend £500+ on tyres for an event that happens 2-3 times a year. We are not really a very wealthy country, most people barely get by. Most houses are pretty small & many people don’t have any space to store seasonal tyres.
Unfortunately I don't think it is just a simple case of winter tyers .the amount of people who come sliding past my old house with there foot fully on the break with the steering fully locked over bouncing off everything in there path was unbelievable .top tip for snow (apart from winter tyers is remembering that locked up wheels dont stear lol low gear lots of concentration and a bit of driving knowledge goes a long way on snow .
Introduce a scrapage scheme for FWD cars. Buy a car with the engine in the back, fit winter tyres on the front and moulded slicks on the rear. Rev it to 8500-10,000rpm and hope people move out of the way. If its got a pair of webbers they will hear you coming from miles away no problem😊
This is why I refuse to drive in the snow. No matter how careful you are, sooner or later some idiot with summer tyres and a heavy foot will come sliding into you even if you're stationary. Then again, as a pedestrian I had to dive out of the way when an out of control car mounted the pavement.
It just dawned on me, that it appears to be light snow to have fallen on most of the UK in these clips, and I'm wondering if the UK sells all-weather tires?
I lived on Maples St at the tme and spent most f the week driving other peoples cars up the hill. Then I moved t Thurgaton and it didn't get much better. I also seem to remember losing a friend out of the back of my LDV trying to get the required speed to get to the top of Rossington - my mate was leaning against the back doors when we hit the speed-bump and went airborne. Been better this year though!
Moral of the story, keep a shovel in the boot in these conditions & do yourself and others a favour by clearing your roads & footpaths by where you live. Something hardly anyone does nowadays.
Wouldn’t it be nice if cars had “skates.” That could prevent many car crashes during slipper ice conditions on the road. It’s the same car, with all the same gears and stuff except it has been upgraded to store very thick and very durable metal alloy metal that slides down and makes contact with ice when a car’s wheels begin to lose traction with the road surface. When they are not need the thick pieces of metal are stored inside the car around the wheels of the car. When the car begins moving on ice and begins to slide and lose control, several slits (opening specially for the metal slices) around each wheal of the car are opened allowed the metal pieces to drop down and make contact with the slippery ice. The driver then turns the stirring wheel and in doing so turns the wheels of the car, which in turn turns the sharp and thick pieces of metal in the direction you want to steer the car. Around each wheel of the car you can place two slits at the side that, if opened, can allow metal slits at each side (left and right) to slide down (upon sensing car’s tires losing traction against ice) and give the driver a slightly better side to side manouverability. You can also place two slits in the front and back of a tire, that if opened, can bring the car, eventually, to a stop…just like a hockey player speeding up can stop suddenly on ice by turning sideways (turning his feet and body sideways) and scraping the think blades of his skates on the ice “sideways” to produce more friction and traction with the ice. If a car’s had special openings (slits) around a tire and its inner metal axal that stored special very tough and durable blades like those of a skating blade of a hockey play then in an emergency (like a cars tire losing traction against road surface and starting to lose control and slide) the driver could by some mechanism activate an “emergency brake stop” [like that of an emergency handle pull stop of a train] by, example, pressing a button that would cause sharp and durable, blade skates-like, metal to drop drop from the opening and make contact with the ice. These sharp and durable skate-like blades around [but not touching] each tire/wheel of the car would hit the ice with enough force to cause the car to make bring it to a faster stop (as opposed t stopping by itself without ice-like skates and with less traction).
To much power on the front wheels pull up very slow.Yes winter tyres does help the majority of U.K drivers won't buy winter tyres. To expensive for most and the hassle of changing tyres.
With snow on its way I thought I'd prepare myself for the absolute rage I get watching useless twatts driving in the snow. Not once have I got stuck. Technique and control is where people go wrong. Its embarassing.
What about the idiot who took hours to clean his windshield, I meant windscreen and still didn't do a good job. I thought Saab owners were suppose to be smart!!!!!
Change the tyres guys..... that can save your live and that on your family. Specially here in uk, from ebay have soo cheep new (winter)tyres, not only summer ;)
Yes that's a good idea all you dummies, if your drive wheels are slipping just put the gas pedal to the floor and they're like "Er why's that not working?"
Simon other ppl do too. It wont help if You not in the know. I had fr, ff and now awd (not stinking audi) car never got stuck. but seen ppl in their so called 4x4s abandoning xc90s cayennes and range rovers because knowing how to drive is more important to what You drive. cannot wait for next snow by the way...
people need to get winter tyres or 4 season Tyre for some reason UK cars only come with summer tyres. Next people do not know how to drive in these conditions they are stupid and our driving test should have a whole section on this use the highest gear you can without stalling to get moving do not use first try 3rd gear to start moving keep the revs low to reduce wheel spin if wheels spin try higher gear do not just floor it. drive slower give yourself more space do not worry about being late. give yourself more time do not just look at the car in front watch the cars in front of the vehicle in from of you turn traction control off if your car tells you known your car read the hand book its there to help you. they tell you what setting to have your are in. as cars get more electronics know how they work. some drivers aids do not work in snow and ice so do what the book tells you. rear wheel drive is not worse its the tyres you are using. these fat wide low profile summer tyres are no good in winter change your Tyre from the 1 of October to the end of March.
Azureecosse I understand what your saying but winter tyre are not just for snow, they work better in the cold, they are better in the rain. May be because I have friends and family in Germany that I have got use the the winter tyres.plus tyres are cheaper in continental Europe a lot cheaper.
Azureecosse UK car do not come with all season tyres they come fit with summer tyres period. Plus it been law to swap tyres in Germany since the 1970 summer tyres March to end September and winter from October to march. If not your insurance will not pay out in an accident. Most modern UK cars are fit with the new reduced friction or energy savers which are not very good in cold wet weather and are useless in snow or slush.
+E30Sawyer presumably for the (apparent) false sense of security. Without proper rubber the CX90 will be no better at stopping than any other car. I also have a AWD vehicle, the difference with winter tyres and summer tyres is vast.

I'm stuck in the snow and ice....I know, I'll stick the car in 1st and floor the accelerator...
@Lindz e hard bastard
@Lindz e thats actually the correct way to do it, either 2nd or 3rd
@Lindz e We have to share roads with these idiots LMFAO.
Couldn't be more mistaken !
It amazes, almost pains me to see how so many people have absolutely no clue how to drive on snow
Always the best way to deal with slippy conditions is to ram your foot on to the accelerator, forgetting all those lessons about the biting point.
I seems like the British logic is "I need to go there, it's snowing so..... FLOOR IT!"
I know right, I can't drive yet but I've heard you start in second very slowly and if possible put as much weight on driving wheels as possible ie if RWD put heavy things in boot.
IKR!😂😂 I'M IN THE UK !😂
Snow melts before rubber

We don’t have winter tyres here generally as it might snow a couple of days a year max.
I put 4 snow tyres on in the winter and they help massively, I drive for a living so I need to be able to get about. These idiots are the reason that it's sometimes better for me to stay at home.
Tires. Summer tires aren’t going to cut it.
Very few people unfortunately are going to spend £500+ on tyres for an event that happens 2-3 times a year.

You need more English lessons.
Always clean the snow off of the roof; 'cos if ye don't it slides straight over the windscreen when ye brake
what you need realy is an old land rover
Introduce a scrapage scheme for FWD cars. Buy a car with the engine in the back, fit winter tyres on the front and moulded slicks on the rear. Rev it to 8500-10,000rpm and hope people move out of the way. If its got a pair of webbers they will hear you coming from miles away no problem😊
9:18 that guy actually think hes capable of pushing that car up the hill 😂😂
the last place I'd want to be stood is behind a car on an icy hill
This is why I refuse to drive in the snow. No matter how careful you are, sooner or later some idiot with summer tyres and a heavy foot will come sliding into you even if you're stationary. Then again, as a pedestrian I had to dive out of the way when an out of control car mounted the pavement.
This is a good free tutorial on "how not to drive in da snow"
It just dawned on me, that it appears to be light snow to have fallen on most of the UK in these clips, and I'm wondering if the UK sells all-weather tires?
It snows once every 3 years. There's no point in winter tyres.
You honestly don't know ! I'm crying with laughter ,,, OMG

Is it Maple St Hyson Green? If so, my uncle and aunt lived at no 35. Was there a lot as a kid, and remember that hill as a biatch.
HELLO FROM THE UK !😂😂❤
The person making these videos goes out after dark with buckets of water and throws it onto the street so he can film the carnage the next morning 😂
Some more quality driving in England no wonder car insurance is so expensive 🙄
Where was that up on the moors? Looked like Bradford
As soon as you spin the wheels you’ve lost it . 😂
Do they put that salt on the roads, I have stock tires and I don't have trouble in the winter.
They put grit on main roads & busy routes, smaller roads are often left untreated because of the lack of grit/salt available. It needs to be rationed.
Only moterways, duel carriage ways and bus routes, councils suck.
They had no idea Coronavirus was coming in 5 years
You call that Snow? 😂😂😂😂 Thats like summer here
Did anyone notice that the saab at 1:12 has the hand brake on? :)))))
Moral of the story, keep a shovel in the boot in these conditions & do yourself and others a favour by clearing your roads & footpaths by where you live. Something hardly anyone does nowadays.
I have a Subaru but I just don't see the point in trying to drive in those conditions.

I'm sure there was some pile of clutchs burnt!!!
I don't think I've ever seen so many Saabs...
Why is everyone standing on the throttle? Once your tires are spinning you are going nowhere.
To much power on the front wheels pull up very slow.Yes winter tyres does help the majority of U.K drivers won't buy winter tyres. To expensive for most and the hassle of changing tyres.
why would u even attempt to drive in it
Because it really shouldn't cause that much of a problem.
no wonder the country grinds to halt at the sight of a snowflake,we don't have a clue in this country how to deal with this type of weather.
SNOW tires ?, don't need no bloomin SNOW TIRES.
That fiesta at the start was totally beached why were they even trying
Why does the video look so old for 2015?
Winter tires are your friends.
The last time it snowed in U.K. Was 2013 not 2015!!!
Looks like british people dont know about winter tyres
piles of revs are the worst thing you can do
I can't wait for winter! It's the only time people on my street like my loud subaru because I help tow them when they get stuck
British pepole in snow cant do omost shit
Russians and other cold countrys: Whats that in britan summer?
christ on a cross, put it in second gear for fucks sake
It's snowing Britain, go back to bed !
With snow on its way I thought I'd prepare myself for the absolute rage I get watching useless twatts driving in the snow. Not once have I got stuck. Technique and control is where people go wrong. Its embarassing.
FUCK IT I DON'T NEED NEW TYRES
Leave your Mercs & BMW's at home dont even bother
I thought people in Europe had Autosoxs....
You thought wrong
Seems like it...
What about the idiot who took hours to clean his windshield, I meant windscreen and still didn't do a good job. I thought Saab owners were suppose to be smart!!!!!
+Jesse s
I know! My dad had a saab and it was no problem in winter, there built in Sweden, the driver was way to heavy on the throttle!
He was yellow, what do you expect
Change the tyres guys..... that can save your live and that on your family. Specially here in uk, from ebay have soo cheep new (winter)tyres, not only summer ;)

+Simon George 4x4 won't help you stop, in fact the extra weight will make that worse. Put the right tires on though, then you are laughing :)
@@RollingHousesUK It will if it's a stick and you know how to drive.

+keith Newton agree with most of this but not "rear wheel drive is not worse", on a front engined car anyway
Vic Thaking I find these wide low profiles on the BMW and mercedes are rubbish in winter and make the car near useless to use .
why do people try and drive in the snow !!! if its not an emergency then don't go out !!!!
These roads are almost clear. People just need to learn how to drive. Although that skill may be out of reach for most people.
ice is the issue and no tyres, winter or otherwise can cope with that
You'd be amazed what driving skills will do for you, that and common sense. Obviously you have neither.
i find this sorta stuff intresting because everyone gets stuck while im in my xc90 smiling at them
You'll get your karma one day
Karma for what??
+E30Sawyer presumably for the (apparent) false sense of security. Without proper rubber the CX90 will be no better at stopping than any other car. I also have a AWD vehicle, the difference with winter tyres and summer tyres is vast.

I love when people drive in the snow just proves we have too many stupid drivers about
This video should be retitled to "people in the UK don't know how to drive".
