I like how Ben gave his personal opinion, based on years of experience, on camera for possible Australian authorities personal in charge of the proper disposal of Freon gases who might be watching this video why he going to dismantle this apparatus without having a license and why they shouldn't look for him in order to give him a fine. LOL Happy New Year!

@@eWasteBen Hi Ben I have a quick question, how much would you pay for various components by weight for gold recovery? i've seen all the videos on boards etc but i cant seem to find the ones (if they exist) that break down prices for individual components. Like price per kilo of BGAs or IC chips or tantalum caps etc. It would make a great video but i'm hoping you can just shoot me a quick reply with some round numbers. I've got a guy who wants to sell me some scrap, i just want to make sure its a fair deal. Thanks Ben

I remember my first a/c unit I scrapped. I was only a week into it and I was trying to figure it out without releasing the gas! I cut what looked like thick wire to "this rookie" and it started to hiss and knew it wasn't a wire but a very small tube! UGH!!

They have a separate part in the yard to drop them and they recover all the Freon, gas, etc. for free and I just get scrap metal price. Of course I have to snip off a few wires first, but you can’t cut into any copper tubing or it’ll leak gas.

Here in the US, as a scrapper, I can't even bring in a copper/aluminum coil to recycle it without my HVAC license. If you get caught releasing Freon it is a minimum $10,000 fine. At my scrap yard, I can only bring in a fridge if it has been reclaimed by a licensed freon certified tech. If I bring them a fridge under pressure, they set it aside and remove it with there own guy and it costs me a $10 fee....

I’m glad Ogden, Utah has a yard that accepts refrigerator items at scrap metal value, but they drain them for free! They have a separate area to drop off and they safely drain them all before they go in the shred pile. My other scrap yard doesn’t even accept them.

Compressed air?! 😂 it is definitely refrigerant!
If it were reclaimed (refrigerantremoved), techs do not recharge it with nitrogen and it would never have compressed air.. in my country, in the case of accidental discharge, it only needs to be reported if it is 10 lbs or more. That little system may have 1-2 lbs at best. It's not ideal to release it into atmosphere, but it's also not the end of the world. I'm sure you already did it off camera anyways lol

Tall ingots will take boards but they only take motherboards at about $2.20 a kg (used to be $3.50) and low grade for other boards power boards used to be $0.40. RMI in sumner only takes motherboards i think (same price). So I just completely depopulate all boards now. Tall ingots used to take laptops without battery at $1 a kg too so just take ram and cpu. hard drives are at $0.90kg so leave them in to get a bit extra on them. (for current prices give them a call) they wont email you. If you sell with them make sure you tell them the prices you were quoted and by who, otherwise they will go bottom dollar on you and make a comment "oh prices have changed a bit eh" . its in the computer they should be quoting and giving you same prices.
