when gang members were multi-racial 👊
We're they multi racial in real life? Genuine question
In the book the warriors were all black
Jay Williams the Coney Island dominators were black and Hispanic. So were the Delaney Thrones. Having that much membership, they’re no doubt multi cultural, and even then, racial and political identities didn’t matter to Ismael who had bigger dreams about being like Cyrus, Napoleon, and Hannibal, so he must’ve welcomed in all races if they could bop and follow his orders. The lizzies, saracens, riffs, and warriors have mixed or at least three different races featured in the film. There are also white suprematist gangs - which tells you that non caucasians didn’t NOT join them instead. And a homosexual gang in the film and actually captured swan in a deleted scene. All in all, it either isn’t true that the gangs were multi-cultural, but in the essence of it, other than supremacist gangs, race and culture wasn’t apart of it. In the theme of warriors themselves, they’ll have anyone on their side who aren’t cowards or traitors. Just as long as they can bop.
Also, there’s a quote from Cyrus in trying to band together. Page 39 (Kindle) of the book where he denotes that regardless of race, they’re united in how they’re treated - baptised and made brothers under fire. So that rhetoric doesn’t really stand when that was the official goal of the 300 strong Delancy Thrones.
Walter hill wanted to make a multi-racial gang to be able to sell his film better, and in the book the hero is black while on the screen he is white
Crips and GDs are very open to whites. Just about every Chicago gang is multiracial.
