Twenty years ago my wife, who is a screenwriter, took me to a lecture given by Ray Bradbury. He was charming as well as magnetic and he encouraged any of us with a story in our minds to write it. I took his urging to heart and wrote a short story titled "Cheating Satan" which I then mailed to him. He actually took the time to read it and sent me a signed note saying "I like it!" What a wonderful and gracious person he was, and I'll always cherish his note.
Crazy as it is, Bradbury died on my birthday; celebrating one of my favorite authors will now be all the more memorable. His stories will live forever and I'm sure there are those unpublished stories which will eventually see the light of day. I felt uneasy and foggy on the night of Bradbury's death, not at all my usual self; perhaps the impact of his death reverberated on the souls of those he touched as profoundly as my own. The man left a wealth of his words by which to be remembered.
Good evening.Thank you so much! We've already read two stories: "Tyrannosaurus Rex" and "The Pedestrian".We've really enjoyed them.Greetings from Moscow, Russia.🇷🇺
Ray Bradbury is my favorite author of all-time. He writes and he speaks so metaphorically and in a theme, it's just so great I can't even explain it! God bless Ray Bradbury and his work.
Such a gentle, life-loving, affable soul is Bradbury and I cannot express enough how much I hope to see him become the first human being in history to live forever. To lose the fresh, inspirational, articulate, poetic talent that he has blessed the world with in the form of storytelling will make for one incredibly sorrowful day. What a joy of a man. In my life, I hope to achieve even a fraction the kind of optimism and youthfully exuberant spirit which he has imparted to his readers.
Yesterday was the day we lost this man. I felt the earth shake as the last of the giants of science fiction fell. The earth is a lot emptier now, but we have his stories. And hopefully they will live forever.
(Skip this comment if you have not watched this interview; here be spoilers) His final anecdote here, about The David Frost Show in 1969, was incredible when you think about it. They had pop singers on TV that evening?! It boggles the mind. One of the greatest days in human history, and an English fop has to croon "Please Release Me" or some other sappy tune. Preposterous. Mr. Bradbury is something special. This was really enjoyable. He may not always stay on track, but I love the ride on this train.
"we belong on Mars." Elon Musk listened. Bradbury had an expansive mind. I love his use of the hypnagogic, waking up state. He's sharing a vital tool for creativity. Listen. And use the tool. Thanks for this upload !
My favourite author. I've probably read Dandelion Wine more than any other book. To be honest, every story of his that I've read (and I've read a lot) has been worthwhile.
A very interesting man, very inspirational ^^ Does anyone know the name of the short story hes talking about in the beginning? Where he brought the little girl back to life?
I agree with what he's saying about fragmented thinking. I can barely stand to watch old b&w movies because they're so slow moving. It's pretty well impossible to avoid technology in this day and age though, unless we want to fall behind.
"... have a pretty good life..." Yeah, not if you're dead broke. Ray was persistent and it paid off. That's how most writers "make it". Who can write a short story a week, though? Most people are working "regular" jobs.
No worries. I certainly didn't take your response as facetious or flippant-- and I'm sure Bradbury would greatly admire the "transcendental" quality. ^_~
@SatelliteofHeaven All due respect, but I think it has more to do with living forever in the minds of others long after you've kicked the bucket. Plus there is nothing wrong with having a cheerful outlook on life
When the interviewer misstates the name of the magazine at the beginning, Ray looks kind of pissed. He doesn't seem to like his interviewer much... Don't blame him.
I don’t know how we can make moral indictments on a games politics when it’s not even out. The game is literally a post apocalypse showing how wrong this soviet utopia has crumbled. Using in-universe imaginary to market ones game is fairly common and seeing as this is the definitely the biggest game to come out of Russia these grand marketing attempts are to be expected. “Imagine if this was a n*** themed party” well we can’t, soviet imagery is far less taboo, there are many folk nowadays that proudly say they are communists. I really don’t understand your critique of the sexualised robots, “the commodification of sex” is a common theme of sci fi. If you weren’t already against this game (and don’t get me wrong, so am I) you wouldn’t have a problem with this feature at all. As a piece of Russian media that will benefit (even in some small way) their side of the war financially I am totally against buying this game. But that doesn’t make the game itself immoral and making these grand judgements about a piece of art that’s not even been released.
I'd say that even everyone that is smokeing is the reality of now. I'm sure by 2020 you will see a bunch of people smoking by any age. My friend told me that marajana is going to be legal. That just proves it all!

Fantastic anecdote
One could listen to Ray Bradbury all day. What an inspiring writer. Love his attitude to writing. This video should live on here for ever.
Ray Bradbury was metal as hell, the rockstar of the literary world...what an inspiring soul. Rest in peace, you wonderful, loveable freak!
One of the greatest and most human mind expanding writers of all time, his stories stay with you, you live them, and some of them even make you cry.
"We are here as an audience. To be an audience to the miraculous." - Amazing words.

I heard him speak many, many years ago. He just says what he thinks without overthinking a matter. I found him very refreshing and helpful.
Ray Bradbury is my favorite author of all-time. He writes and he speaks so metaphorically and in a theme, it's just so great I can't even explain it! God bless Ray Bradbury and his work.
THESE are the kind of videos worth watching.

A constant source of inspiration, this very special man to me since 1979! Ray, You're missed!
Yesterday was the day we lost this man. I felt the earth shake as the last of the giants of science fiction fell. The earth is a lot emptier now, but we have his stories. And hopefully they will live forever.
Just love Ray. Such wisdom and introspection. Gawd. And then God.
I read that story about the girl !!
Oh thanks so much for posting this!
God, I love this man. What a body of work and talent.

From 22:00 and "What are we doing here?", he really gets going! Very inspiring.
When I listen to this amazing man, I cry. Amazing!💖
This is a great video. Too many would-be writers need to hear this.
Who are theses awful people who go around disliking such beautiful videos?
RIP you beautiful man, thank you for your words.
A thinker and a prophet. A really good interview
Thank you for sharing this. Truly
Thank you so much for uploading this!
God, hes so much fun to listen to !!!!!
Bradbury offers very useful advice, and does so in a very entertaining way.
I wish he was my grandfather! :) I am an unpublished writer so far, but I wish I could be like him when I am his age.
He became my writing mentor when I was 19 and had me call him Papa.
@@jamessorensen3447 It's a shame he died right around the time when I discovered him, because I would've loved to send him a fan-letter. :)
This is incredible, thank you for sharing this with all of us!❤
I love how as folks get older they lose the social filter. They say exactly what they want to say. I'm looking forward to being 80.
You don't need to, just free yourself of any kind of social filter
Mr. Bradbury really didn’t have many filters even as a younger man.
I'm 73 and shooting for 88 little fart😆😆😆🤣
YES you little fart🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Shooting for 88 got 15 more years.
Not true for most. Most become more silent. Don't be such an ageist.
"we belong on Mars." Elon Musk listened. Bradbury had an expansive mind. I love his use of the hypnagogic, waking up state. He's sharing a vital tool for creativity. Listen. And use the tool. Thanks for this upload !
just discovered him, but i feel like i've known i had it coming the whole time.
"What the hells was the question?" I love this man
Thank you Mr.Bradbury!
Thanks man!! I've been waiting ages for some one to reply to this comment!! You rock :D
someone replied :)
My favourite author. I've probably read Dandelion Wine more than any other book. To be honest, every story of his that I've read (and I've read a lot) has been worthwhile.
Just being honest. I greatly admire and love Bradbury, both the man and his writing.
most inspiring man ever.
Ray Bradbury you are amazing, thank you
@13:08 write everyday
All hail the great and wise RBD!!!
Great interview, thanks for the upload!
awesome stuff thanks for the post.
this man is incredible!
A very interesting man, very inspirational ^^
Does anyone know the name of the short story hes talking about in the beginning?
Where he brought the little girl back to life?
I don't know if you will see this 13 years later or perhaps you may have already found it but the title is The Lake.
Did you read it, 15 years later?
I agree with what he's saying about fragmented thinking. I can barely stand to watch old b&w movies because they're so slow moving. It's pretty well impossible to avoid technology in this day and age though, unless we want to fall behind.
fantastic thanks
what a nice man !
This man was a brilliant person and one of my favorite authors of all, time, but fuck this English class for making me write about him.
thanks for this upload =)
10:46 gold
How do you have to refer to notes when talking about Ray Bradbury
"... have a pretty good life..." Yeah, not if you're dead broke. Ray was persistent and it paid off. That's how most writers "make it". Who can write a short story a week, though? Most people are working "regular" jobs.
he's so right about local news!!
Nice talk.
I love his insight in to a political landscape!
One of my favorite writers, but a far better writer than speaker.
" DUMB DUMB DUMB why didnt i kiss her " hahahahaha this dude is so frekin funny !!!!!!!!!!!!
More like, Oh Sad. :-( He was a one-of-a-kind genius writer and will be greatly missed.
I'd love the interview, had it not being this guy to ask the questions.
bloody fantastic. my Gods walk the Earth or did walk for a while. Thank for sharing x
He is very influential to Me.
Funny thing Bradbury himself appeared in a number of TV ads. Especially in Japan.
4:03 "FOX cable does good work." Well, you can't get 'em all right.
lol
thats why hes a famous writer and you arent
Pretty sure he wouldn't approve of how CNN is now a days either.
No worries. I certainly didn't take your response as facetious or flippant-- and I'm sure Bradbury would greatly admire the "transcendental" quality. ^_~
4:21 Preach on brother!
what if my life is too full of suffering, should i want to payback the universe?
4:03 HAHAHAHAH
@TCOGAK
it was called "the lake" and he didn't save her life, she drowned, she was real and she died that day
He's a good writer.
Yes but this was in 2001 when the internet wasn't so popular.
9:35
"constructing the screenplay, what the hell is that?" ahahah I am not a smarty pant but I am reliably with him. This is my part.
damn. this shit is deep for real.
@SatelliteofHeaven
All due respect, but I think it has more to do with living forever in the minds of others long after you've kicked the bucket. Plus there is nothing wrong with having a cheerful outlook on life
damn straight.
When the interviewer misstates the name of the magazine at the beginning, Ray looks kind of pissed. He doesn't seem to like his interviewer much... Don't blame him.
That is the one thing that will never change. Human character for bad or good.
Abject bob . com
"Lazarus, come forth!"
My favorite American writer. Jesus God!
you can,,,
still, ray bradbury didnt think of the internet which is starting to kill tv
hmmm interesting guy
When he misstates the name of the magazine, Ray looks kinda pissed. He doesn't seem to like his interviwer.
Give Chaplin's "Modern Times" a try...
Well, hell, gimme some lightning and i'll make my own life.
hahahaha.
huh?
No Mr. Bradbury, we did not listen, and damn are we paying for it
Disagree with him on the scientists part. Scientists try to prove things to the best of thier abilities whereas Religious groups say "It just is."

psst! ray! there's something on your nose!
Ray would be surprised to see how far cable news has fallen, particularly the depths being plumbed by Fox “News”.
He would be horrified by TikTok and short format videos
if his daughters spent a day with Sammy Davis Jr, then...i feel very bad for them.
Fastfoward 2 yeas later and he's dead, oh SNAP!!!
hair on his nose
this is terrible
I love this guy is awesome! I loved "Farenheit 451!"
I'd say that even everyone that is smokeing is the reality of now. I'm sure by 2020 you will see a bunch of people smoking by any age. My friend told me that marajana is going to be legal. That just proves it all!
