Our folk dance group in Colorado, USA, has been dancing to this recording for 50 years. I learned the words 45 years ago, though I don't speak Turkish. I can't hear it without tears.

@@sibelshinaishin182 Last night we had folk dancing for the first time in a year. We were all vaccinated, wearing masks, and not holding hands. This was the first dance I requested. It was so lovely to do it again! It's not a traditional folk dance; I believe it was choreographed by Bora Özkök.
The song is about the governor of Van, Ali Rıza Pasha, killed by the Armenian rebels, I know it has a very cheerful tone; Anatolia is full of them, painful stories and joyful music full of disappointment...

The essence of the story is as follows: Ali Pasha and his entourage seize the weapons given to the Armenian rebels by the American Christian organizations and the French Christian organizations to massacre the non-Christians(Turks/Kurds/Jews/Muslims etc.) in the city. The events take place in 1908. During his short-term governorship, Ali Pasha is fighting against these people, who use the churches as weapons depots. When his duty is over, Ali Pasha is called to Istanbul, which was then the capital of the Ottoman Empire, and on the way he is shot and killed by Armenian gangs. People from many ethnic groups in the region write such a song for him because they know his contribution to the peace and order in the region. The lyrics of the song are adorned with symbols. The main idea of the song is: "You killed such a beautiful person for property and land, let the property of Van be poison to you!".
It can be said that their curse has come true; Although Van and its surroundings remained under the control of Armenia for a while, the TBMM(Turkish Grand National Assembly) succeeded in taking the region back. Everyone who became prosperous with the death of Ali Pasha was punished.

It is very interesting that even if you do not know the words, or even if you translate them, you can feel strong emotions even if you do not understand the symbols. This could be the most powerful "magic" in the world; nice people who want someone to be punished for what they did...
