Honestly I’m cool with that. I don’t want to be gatekept in this game experience, as cute and wonderful as it is. I just want to support the devs for creating a cute and fun experience. Plus I’m an indie dev myself, so I have very little free time because I have goals of my own. I like thrilling action, a cute story with a beginning, middle, and end… I still have great memories of Albert proposing to me in Portia in the winter. Lolllll. This game just… speaks to me. So wholesome and cute.

I finished Sandrock and replayed it. There is alot of plot twists that happen very suddenly and feels like the Climax of the game then suddenly its all resolved and you get to bask in the glory for at least another 20 hours fixing all the problems that have been holding the town back. after its all said i done it dosnt feel very long until i see i spent 120hrs on the game just for the first time beating it

I love Sandrock, in part because the story is long 😁 I haven't done the last part of the story yet and I have about 180 hours in already.
I also really like Coral Island. I started later (not until August), but still have put in over 100 hours. I do agree that it still feels like Early Access with the incomplete quest lines and inaccessible areas which I expected to be in the full release version. The game's performance also seems worse now than it was in EA for me. People looking to buy the game may want to wait until 2024 when the game is (more) complete.

Wow, no wonder this video was stressing you to complete. I never realized how many games came out in November! Nice work in such a busy month! I like how this summary video linked to others in the description also where there were more details.
I spotted a cozy idle game in the works called Rusty's Retirement. Ever seen that one?

Thank you! It was hard finding the balance between putting more hours into a game to have more things to say about it, and just getting the video done. 😅 I actually found out about Rusty's Retirement just yesterday! It looks very unique, it would probably be too much of a distraction for me to have a game running on the bottom half of my screen but I'll check it out for sure!

@@JoshGamingGarden I'm sure a game that was really thoroughly played can have a little bit more said about it, especially if it's genuine enthusiasm for how good the game is. But in general, I bet the first couple of hours are enough to get first impressions that end up continuing to speak for the whole game. That balance does seem like a fine line though. It probably takes a long time for you to get the right footage together for your voice over also!

I think theres levels of cosy
    1. Cosy where its mainly cosmetic and easy in difficulty
I would put animal crossing here and similar games
    2. Cosy but it doesn't require substantial grinding. It's still easy to get done (e.g. simple to manage)
I would put roots of pacha or similar games here
    3. Cosy but requires grinding and scales in difficulty
I would put games like RF4 here

    • @smaao
      @smaao 10 місяців тому +1

@sandomen123 you know what, stardew would hit point 3 for me. That mine was an enjoyable headache and theres lots of mechanisms/things to unlock. Whereas if we look at story of seasons sure they have a mine and things to unlock but for me it was easy to clear quickly (so would be 2 or lower depending on which sos game you have). Similarly even Rf5 i wouldnt put within 3 because it was easy to beat with barely any real upgrade so would stick to 2 for that one. Challenge me btw if you disagree but i did find stardew valley much more challenging than rf5

My Time at Sandrock turned out to be SO much better than I ever imagined. I remember playing at some point in early access and I thought "welp, that must be like 90% of the story" - turned out it wasn't even half. I think it took me about 140 hours to finish the main story (just over 1 year + 1 season in-game iirc), and it was so exciting to have a new main quest available almost every day. And then all the random events and side quests, they give so much personality to the characters and their relationships, you don't see that often. The story sure went places, but I think that was to be expected after My Time at Portia - and it just makes me even more excited for future entries that they're actually building a world with lore and they're respecting that. You, the builder, are not the center of the universe - there's also other stuff happening that is out of your control, which is always interesting.
I am a bit sad that some romances are obviously a ton more fleshed out than others, but they have confirmed they're still working on many of the romance things and what's there right now is already amazing and so much better than most other social/life sims. And seeing Sandrock change over time.. ? In a way that is often subtle but after a few days in-game you're like "wait, has this always been.. wait..", even things like events and decoration being prepared over several days and not just popping into existence. Amazing!

I picked up Cuisineer on release because the art style instantly drew me in, and I do not regret it! I'm having such a fun time with it, it's just so charming! I was disappointed with Coral Island, I played early access for quite a long time, and I agree with you that the full release still feels like early access. I'm going to wait until the 2024 features are implemented somewhat before I jump back in.

I'm glad that I can still count on you to be honest about your impressions in this genre.
I'm specifically talking about Coral Island. I was already interested and a glowing review from someone who shall remain nameless on here convinced me to grab it instead of waiting for a sale.
I was disappointed with her (though now I know she can't be trusted) and frankly, pretty damn pissed off that the developers had the gall to call that a 1.0 release. It isn't. At all. It has the potential to be a good game, but there is a reason why I avoid early access games.
Also Glad to hear that Roots of Pacha plays well on switch. I haven't bothered setting up my pc at my current apartment since losing my last one in a fire. Leaving me with the Switch and, more recently, an Xbox Series S.

I finished Sandrock in 150-160+ hours and I absolutely love when I finished the climax point of it. The story hooked me in so much ever since I played it in EA. And the ending was so wholesome that it made me tear up. It's so worth it to start it from the ground up again when I did. I'm waiting for another free update by december and it's so exciting!
I opted to wait for Coral Island to add more content. I was planning on playing it when I finished Sandrock but I'm still in my Sandrock phase so I'll wait until sometime next year to play CI.

Iv done two playthroughs of sandrock, one in EA from close to the start of EA and the another that im close to completing, (just waiting for my final child to age fully then im done) in full release and honestly the game is so worth it, such an amazing game, im at 441 hours in the game ad regret none of it, love the characters, the world, the lore, its such a pact game with great writing (tho i have some gripes namley because some character story wise would have fit better to pass in the story looking at you MORT and the fact its sucha big map with such weirdly places invisible walls sometimes).

Of these games, I’ve played cuisineer, spirittea, fashion dreamer, loddlenauts and roots of pacha. Roots of Pacha is one of my favorites of all time, but for November I really enjoyed Loddlenauts and I’m almost finished with Spirittea. I agree there’s not a lot explained well in the latter. You can use your shovel to dig up books that tell you which season each spirit is from. You can also use the broom in the towel washing room to clean the bathhouse - I was in Summer before I figured that out! 😅
Cuisineer wasn’t for me. I tend to love that style of games, but the more time I played the more everything felt the same unfortunately.

I was really looking forward to Coral Island, and I was incredibly disappointed by the 1.0 release on Game Pass on my Xbox Series X. I know I'm not alone because the community is suffering all the same issues, but wow it's like they didn't play test the Xbox version at all. Broken audio, constant lag/pauses, frequent crashes or glitches, ridiculous controller deadzones that can't be changed, ugh. After fighting against the game for maybe an hour I gave up on it to wait for a patch or 5 before I try it again. I also tried out Spirittea, which sounded right up my alley, but the first mission to find every single person in town to meet them really turned me off from the game. I want to meet the townspeople slowly so I can learn their names, not have all 30 or so thrown at me at once.
My Time at Sandrock has been absolutely amazing though. It took a while before my collector's edition showed up in the mail, but I've played it daily and have maybe 30 hours into it so far. After putting 160 hours into Harvest Moon: Winds of Anthos, Sandrock is really refreshing because it has so many of the QOL features I wanted Winds of Anthos to have, such as better inventory management, better time flow, more interesting characters, and tons more things to upgrade and craft. The combat is really fun as well.

I would add a Disclaimer for the PC Version of My Time at Sandrock, only get it if your PC meets RECOMMENDED standards, not just minimum because it doesn't play well on a regular PC either (even though the graphics are still good).
Games I've played this month have been Coral Island, Harvest Moon: Winds of Anthos, and Submerged (out of the cozy game genre). I recently decided to take a break from Coral Island because I REALLY want to wait for the Merfolk romance to get on it. Still enjoying Harvest Moon, but I wish I knew if my animals would be okay outside if I transferred my farm to a Winter Area. I guess they would be? I've tried finding out online, but no dice yet. I just need winter specific crops mutations to upgrade my storage lol. Submerged was a game I heard about this month, and it's been out for several years. It was on sale on the Nintendo E-shop for a couple dollars and I learned it's a cozy exploration platform. There's very little dialogue and it mostly relies on visual story telling. Story is very deep and I really enjoyed it. For a cheep game it looks amazing and plays smoothly for the most part. OH! I have tried Fae Farm since a free trial was out and I like it, but I still don't think I'll be getting the game because unlike My Time at Sandrock (which also focuses on crafting), the story isn't as engaging and yeah, the chars are one note. Plus there's still that price tag.
I do still plan to get Fashion Dreamer down the line for sure, I want something to activate my creative drive. I may eventually get Roots of Patcha, but with other Farming Sims I want more like Wylde Flowers, Palia, and Sun Haven, it may be awhile. That's not even counting other games in the 2024.

Hi! I actually appreciate his honesty, and I guess I might not be the only one thinking this way. As far as I know, Josh does like the game, but it feels unfinished, and I get that this is disappointing after a full release. For example, I tend to wait for full releases because it's hard for me to get back into a game like this after a long pause. With the full release, I was hoping that it would be complete, but it isn't. In one of the videos he mentioned how there was one quest that you cannot even finish at the moment because it says that the content is still missing. Things like this just make it feel unfinished, sadly. But again, this doesn't make it a bad game! Edit: It just means that it might be worth waiting for an even better version of the game. Hope you understand what I mean :)

It's criticised because it was released too early. Released is supposed to equal gameplay finished. Release shouldn't have a lot of unfinished quests and roadblocks for stuff not finished yet. It should still be in early access until it's actually finished.

Thanks for the video, Josh. 🪂 I’m looking forward to your stream tonight.
Does anyone know the best way to adjust the Switch camera settings for My Time at SandRock, so you are not looking at the ground constantly? I’ve only played a little bit, so I can’t comment too much on if the game is playable or not on Switch, but I am struggling with how to keep the camera looking at eye level. Any advice would be much appreciated.
