Weak hotel security? That was how the stalker of sportscaster Erin Andrews was able to find her hotel rooms (Columbus, OH in February 2008 & Nashville, TN in September 2008). At both hotels, he videotaped her naked without her affirmative or informed knowledge or consent while she was dressing for work. The stalker, Michael David Barrett, disseminated the videos to the Internet during the summer of 2009. He was later arrested for & pled guilty to interstate stalking during the fall of 2009. In March 2010, Barrett was sentenced to two & a half years in prison plus three years probation. In March 2016, Andrews won a civil lawsuit again Barrett & the Nashville Marriott for invasion of privacy, failure to protect privacy, & emotional distress.
It has been almost fifty years since singer Connie Francis was ambushed and savagely sexually assaulted by an unidentified assailant in her hotel room for which she was awarded a $2.5 million lawsuit. In the wake of that case, you would've thought that hotel chains would've wasted no effort in enhancing security at their locations. That's why the very fact that the Erin Andrews case was even able to materialize at all is quite shocking.
