+Sean Evans....Greetings Sean Evans....Thanks for watching.....................Well, I haven't worked on Your Exact type of Distributor at all, but, Your Caddy's Distributor, with a few exceptions, is basically, much like the HEI/High Energy Ignition Distributor, that You saw in this UA-cam Video of mine........................I must Warn You, how-ever, that, when it comes to Re-Installing Your Caddy's Distributor, after You have taken care of, like You were sayin', Replacing the Pick-up Coil, and maybe, what-ever else needs to be done to it, while it is Out of the Engine, then, "Everything" from how the Caddy's Distributor is Re-Assembled, all the way up-to, the Re-Installation of it, in the Engine, and, having it Set-Up (in the Engine), as far as, having the Ignition Timing "Set" to Specifications is concerned, will be the determining factor, as to whether the Engine will Run, or even Start for that matter............................Pay "Very Close Attention" to, just how, each and every Part of Your Caddy's Distributor gets Removed, as in, the Order in which those Parts were Removed from the Distributor............................The Helical Drive Gear, might have an Odd Number of Gear Teeth on it, and, it has to be Re-Installed on the Shaft "Exactly" the way it came Off of it...!!!...(as in, Not 180 Degrees Out)......(Hint)...Look for a Dimple or Marking on the Hub of the Helical Gear...........................Also, pay attention to the Shims/Washers, that might be, between the Helical Gear and the Distributor's Housing...........................To Remove the Shaft, from most of the older, GMC/Chevy etc. Distributors, while out of the Engine, that I've worked on, it was just a matter of, Removing the Cap & Rotor, and what-ever else might be in the way, when the Shaft came out of the Top-side of said Distributor, once the Roll-Pin, was driven out of the Helical Gear's Hub (also, make sure, that, there are no Burrs/upset edges, around the hole in the Shaft, on both sides of it), and, the Spacers/Washers were Removed as well, but, usually, the Higher the Mileage/Kilometer-age, that the Distributor had on it, the (usually) More Residue/Scum/Yuckees, that got Stuck to the Distributor's Shaft, which my Friend, makes for one, sometimes, very Stubborn-to-Remove, Distributor Shaft........................It's just a matter of putting some automotive type, of liquid cleaner, (and, do it Outside, for both, Safety Reasons, and maybe the Smell as well), that will dissolve that Crud some-what, down into, where the Shaft enters the Distributor's Housing, both top and bottom, and, repeat as needed.............Then, while Twisting the Shaft in both directions, while at the very same time, "Lightly", Pulling-Up on the Top of the Shaft, and sometimes, maybe pushing the Shaft back Down, while always twisting back and forth, and back up again, should start to some-what Loosen/Dissolve, that once before, Hardened Crud...hopefully...........It might take some time, to, both Soak-the-Crud, and to finally persuade the Shaft to come out, and, if You are in too much of a Hurry, one of the Bushings (aka, bearings that support the shaft), might also come out, of the Housing, and, we sure don't want that to happen....Right...???...lol........................Then, once the Shaft is out, then, there's usually a "Retaining Clip", or, something along those lines, that Retains/Keeps-in-place, that good ole Pick-up Coil Assembly (if memory serves me right, that is)..........................Make Sure, that You get the "Exact" Correct Pick-up Coil Assembly, cuz, there are so many "Different" Ones that were made...!!!.....................Then, make sure, upon Re-Assembly, that, all parts, go back on, in the Reverse Order, of, what that they came off in...........................Remember now, that Helical Gear probably needs to be "Indexed" (aka, timed, usually with the distributor Rotor's Tip), when that Roll Pin, gets driven back in, or there's probably gonna be Trouble-in-Pair-ah-Dice...!!!......................Then, if You Removed the ICM/Ignition Control Module, make sure, that, the bottom of it, and where it Mounts, inside the Distributor, are very Clean, and Use, some of that Specific Heat Transfer-ing Paste/Goop, on the bottom of the Ignition Control Module, before You Install it, or, that Ignition Module, might just Over-Heat and go "Poof", as in, need a new one now...!!!...Yikes...!!!............................When it comes time to Re-Install the Distributor, and Set-up, the, usually called, Base (Initial) Ignition Timing, and what-ever else, that's Specific to Your Exact Vehicle's Needs, I suggest, to maybe have a look around on the Internet, for a Cadillac Website, that has a "Forum" on it, where You can Ask, some of the very Knowledgeable People on those Forums, that will probably, actually have, some Hands-On Experience, with, what You are about to do..........................Well, that's about it for now, and, if You have any questions or concerns at all, just post them, under any of my UA-cam Videos...................Good Luck, and..........till next time...........Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

Go back to the cam manufacturer and ask them. Only they will be certain.

Greetings...copper jacket...........You're welcome, and thanks for watching...........The good ole H.E.I. (High Energy Ignition), type of distributors, were really quite impressive, back when they were being installed by the car manufacturers (starting around 1975 there-abouts)..........I believe that D.U.I. (no, not the booze kind, but rather) Davis Unified Ignition (I think, that, that was the company's name, if I recall correctly, that is), will "custom build, and custom set-up the ignition advance curve", for just about any engine out there, probably being, anything from stock, to a racing application, for a very reasonable price (maybe have a look at their website, if you care to), and.......till next time.......Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

part three and you have not disassembled. You got some inhibitions or what? They need the play to move oil. Learned that first hand. .010" play will lock up the top bushing and stretch your plug wires.

Greetings...chuck chase............Thanks for watching............Nah, no inhibitions at all, just haven't made any videos in a while...........It's easy enough, most times, for just about anyone, to take a mechanical item apart alright, but, when it comes time, to put the item back together again...Correctly...that's where the real skills are usually found...........I'm in no real hurry to take this LARGE Cap HEI Distributor apart, cuz, I figure, that, it would be a good idea, to show the folks, most of what, to be looking out for, while my HEI is still some-what together, then, after I conclude, doing that, then, it will probably be taken apart eventually............I can show, how, both, the mechanical and vacuum advance works, etc. ............Yes-Sire-ee-Bob...Aluminum will expand more, than Steel will, for a given length, in most cases, and that's why, when going any less, then about .015" (fifteen thousandths of an inch, as a guess), of running clearance, between the helical gear, and the HEI Distributor's aluminum housing, then, I be guessin', that, the aluminum housing, would expand/lengthen, more, then, that steel shaft would, and if so, let the binding/seizing begin.............Move Oil...???...well, if I recall correctly, then, there should be, kinda like, several slots, just above, where that tanged washer is located, that the helical gear rubs on, where it appears, that, the motor oil would use as a passage way, so to speak (I'll try to remember this, and maybe show it in a future video, maybe)............Stretch the plug Wires...???...as in, maybe, the whole HEI and its LARGE Cap actually "Spun" around (in a circle), and, ended up lookin', something like a really messed up Octopus...???...are You sure, that You Tightened the Distributor Hold-Down Clamp Bolt or Nut sufficiently...???...cuz, some years ago, a Friend of mine, Phoned me, and said that his V-8 Engine Ran Worse, "After", one of those, done in a short time, Tune-up Shops, worked on his truck............So, I told him to bring it over to my house, and He did, a short time later.............I popped the hood of His truck, and it sure didn't take very long to find the Problem..............I grabbed a handful of Distributor, and I could Easily twist it Both ways...!!!...Oh oh, looks like that super fast Tune-up Shop Guy, forgot to Tighten-up...You got it..."the Distributor Hold Down Camp"..."Bolt"...........I then, set the initial timing, with my timing light, and yes, I Did remember to "Tighten" down, that, Distributor Hold down Clamp's..."Bolt"...!!!...and, after doing so, my Friend's truck ran great again, and He was one, happy camper again............I actually replaced the Pick-up Coil Assembly, in this HEI Distributor, over 15 years ago, so yeah, I probably remember how to take "it" apart, and, put "it" back together again, and.......till next time.......Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.
