Been gigging for a while in the band, so isn’t really relevant to me, but every point is bang on in this video, sick advice
Thanks, man. I needed tips to be able to get gigs as I am 18 and in senior high school working as a crew in mcdonald's to support my education. The pay is low that is why I really needed another way to earn.
planning to play in the park at first lol good to start somewhere
Me and my band had our first gig in front of our highschool, 10 people seeing it, just do it and have fun
Here’s the big question: how do you get a gig when you’re under 16
My problem exactly 😂
Exactly!
Exactly what I want to know
Put videos of u on UA-cam and they will help u of they see u are good
You don't.
Trust me.
Thanks for posting this informative video.
I've been binge watching your videos and I have to say, these are all really helpful and everything I've watched is really well explained and organized! There isn't that much of as in depth and simple advice for music on YT as these are, so thank you so much for this! Do you maybe have any advice about deciding between starting a band and going solo? Like, some things a person can expect from each of those paths.. Because I am a singer/songwriter and have been learning to play a guitar. I already have lots of ideas about stories I'd like to tell through the songs I write, and I do art so I want to include that into the music as well, but the idea of making music with a group of people instead of doing it alone sounds amazing and like it could turn out better for the songs I write and I'm not sure what to do since most people I know are either not musicians, already in a band or live too far away...
You never know who your friends might know. If you want to start a band ask around and see if anyone you know, knows anyone who'd be interested! I think being in a band is a much more fun experience than making music alone is, but you can always do both!
The Music Lab Oh I haven't even thought of that! I am generally pretty awkward at first with new people (something I've been working to improve lately, but I honestly still suck at it 😅) but I'll give it a try, thanks!
What songs people sing at the pubs? I want to di my first gig and I have no idea what songs to sing😬
I don't know if you remember me but I met you two years ago in Sound City and I remember getting back and I was a fan of the vids but then soon after because UA-cam at the time was fucking up so I ended up forgetting about the chanel. Just then I just saw the arctic monkeys video recommended and I have fallen in love again. I'm glad you lads have kept at it so from a younger viewer, good on you mate x (an old but new sub😂)
I definitely remember! Thanks for revisiting the channel, we're glad to have you back :)
The Music Lab thanks man. So am I😂 I am dearly sorry for loosing my way
You are forgiven! 💙
What if your band plays something different such as punk rock? Would it be harder to get a gig if so?
My band problem exactly
How does one get into writing original music? I love to play but anything I write sounds kinda gross
Sarah Faisal just get good, practice your instrument, listen to a very wide verity of music, see other bands. Find your style and with practice get there
It gets a lot easier the better you are with your instrument. I've written some simple things because I'm ok at guitar, but I'll either just be messing around on my instrument, find something I like, repeat it like 10 times or record it so I remember, then I try to find where it can naturally go from there. If you have friends/a band, it's great to bounce ideas off them when you're stuck. First songs are always trash, as long as you keep writing, they'll get better. Keep it up. And make time for it. If you sit down and focus on writing every day it'll get much easier and some days it will get frustrating, but you're creating something, it's not meant to be easy.
Hopefully you've overcome whatever obstacles you had a year ago.
Practice practice practice.
99% of artists first songs sound bad, eventually you just get to k ow what sounds good and what doesn't. Just be patient.
Get inspired by other artists, like for me I listen to a lot of Beatles, Buddy Holly stuff like that so that makes my song writing sound like 50’s, 60’s rock.
So just listen to your favourite bands.

im a volcalist but i dont have a band ,can i still get gigs?
I'm a guitarist I dont have a vocalist:(.......
massive help man, thanks
How do I know what's required of me as an acoustic act to bring v.s what is provided? Most experience I have is with open mics. They usually have monitors and amps to plug the guitar into. Will the promoter have this info?
Yep, talk to the promoter or venue!
i was so nervous at my first gig, it didn't go so well i think.
Hi. I was just wondering if you continued gigging after your first gig?
ok im a drummer and made a band with my best friends. i am the only one that has experience with bands and we have a gig in 2.5 hours. idk what to do and my heart is pounding even though we haven't even met yet. i only need a way to be sure nothing will happen
How’d it go man?
@PalSalami AWESOME! WE ATTRACTED MORE PEOPLE THAN A BIGGER LOCAL BAND EVEN THOUGH WE EXIST ONLY LIKE 2 MONTHS! I really expect much from us since we had a big gig after a month and a half? Like, bro everyone thinks we are promising!
How many songs do I need to have prepared before a gig? How long does my set need to be before I should start contacting promoters?
A standard support slot is usually 25 minutes, although this varies from gig to gig! The amount of songs is irrelevant, as some people have loads of 2 minute tracks and others have a few 5 minute tracks!
what if ur under 18 and u want to perform gigs as a soloist? do u hire a band-?
sometimes they say that give a demo here for free (of course we will get food and transport money) if we like it we will make you a permanent band here for performing every week.should we accept that demo thing for free?
Becoming a 'house band' where you play every week really just stops you being able to do anything else. If you're creating original music that you want to get out there, we recommend playing a hometown show every 2-3 months, not weekly!
Could you be a solo rock musician? I’ve been trying to find a band but have not been successful. Is there any short tips you could give me to find band member’s?
I’m watching these videos to become a solo rock musician, just play acoustic covers of songs
Thanks bro
I need some advice y’all. I have no band at all. I record all my music myself. I record the drums, guitar, bass, keyboards and I sing what I write. My music is getting good it’s alternative rock. I want to play gigs. Does anyone have any ideas how I can make a cool show if I’m the only one in it? I live in the middle of nowhere so I have to travel an hour or two to get to places that have bars and stuff. Also don’t live around many musicians.
@@lukepressler6395 exactly
Thanks, very informative
But, if you do get the gig how do you decide what to play? I saw the video about playing original songs is better because it showcases your band not someone else's, However, Since it's the first gig does it really matter if you play original songs or covers? I'm assuming most bands starting out don't have an EP recorded and released and therefore don't have original songs to perform...
90% of start-up bands will be playing songs they have written that aren't recorded! That being said, if it's your first gig it really doesn't matter, just use it to get experience!
Ah! Makes sense, thank you!!!
Thanks, it really helps
I’m 17 looking for a gig.. 21 years old to do a gig?
Really depends, a resturant or a super local bar will put you up still, save up, make a good logo, make a tape of your set
How far in advance before the date you want the gig do you guys recommend contacting promoters?
A few months, 2/3, would be ideal!
I live in a small city and theres pretty much no place that plays live music
'pretty much" means there are some! Get intouch with those 'some' and see what you can get! Also, look at neighbouring towns and cities!
@@TheMusicLab thank you!
Can you tell me the situation with "Anti-Stuff"?
It became Dogmatic! I think I talk through the journey in a video called 'stuff from anti-stuff'!
I thought that was one of your singles?
Yep! And we ended up naming the band after that song!
Is Dogmatic making anything musically? Touring? Any of that?
We have a new single nearly ready and we have some gigs and festivals lined up for the coming months!
please do a vid on how to organize a house concert. or the equipment need
Corey Taylor
Honestly can't find a reason I wouldn't want to like your videos!
We’re 12… 😂
