Hello Cam. I'm sorry that our workaround for Pantone is not as expedient as you would like. We used to be able to do Pantone conversion automatically, but Pantone put an end to that when they removed their libraries from Illustrator. Now it would be illegal for us to do automatic Pantone recoloring. If you find a better way, be sure to let us know.

Speed up the 13min file selecting part by using the mac Search function (searching for -pms-c-cmyk within the main parent logo folder not entire mac) and then using the Rename function on the results - all works and quicker than possibly missing a folder as shown.

This is a great suggestion, Mark. Thanks!

There is also a other easy fix. I believe this also works with the newer versions. If you have an older version of illustrator, the. Backup the colorbooks folder in the preset folder. You can copy this over to the new version and it should work fine.
I tested this being seeing reports of artwork turning black due to missing connection to these colorbooks l. i removed the colorbooks folder, in Photoshop though, and indeed spot channels turned black. When i put it back, it all works. I guess this works same in illustrator

Guess it's also a legal thing. I always was curious how you got that auto conversion working. I also have code which can do this. It will still keep working even if Pantone books are removed. You have come up with a great solution!
Ps I've read on adobe forum, if you backup the books folder and move that over to the new version, it will still work.
Pantone is really making a huge fuzz with this move. I was reading a big threat on Adobe Community, so much people which complain about it, lots of them think this move will push even more people away from using Pantone

Yes, we could have included the color books in our extension, but we have no legal right to do so :(
Better not to get sued, haha.

@@LogoPackage i actually meant people can make a backup of them before upgrading and the move them back into the folder. That seems to work according to adobe community.
My method is storing all pms names with lab values, then I'm able to get pms colors. The outcome is slightly different vs the recolor option. But it still works with script and it does not needs the abc files or colorbooks

Am I the only one who's PMS gets converted back to CMYK during the export process... This doesn't work

Pantone in Illustrator is really a mess right now. I would recommend downloading AI 2022 and keeping it as a backup when you need Pantone.

@@LogoPackage I've figured it out, it's because we're using Pantone Color Bridge wich swatches are in CMYK. Still, a spot color should stay a spot color. It stays a spot color when copying form one file to another, no matter the document's color mode of eighter the destination or origin. It really has nothing to do with Illustrator in this case.

@@samuel_at_AJM I've made this video for you to explain what is happening to your bridge swatches and why.
