Thank You for Your Honest Review! 😊 I Have the Original Stamp Wheel and Love it! You Nailed it When You Spoke of Scrapbookers...I Wish it Would Hold a 12 x 12 Sheet of Paper. I Would Love to Add This to My Collection of Tools, but Need to Wait a Bit...Im Still Recovering from My Trip to Ohio for StampAway...lol (Fingers Crossed for a 12 x 12 Compatible)
I have the original and I also love how it works. My favorite part is the sticky mat come with it! I think it may be very helpful to any crafters contemplating the purchase. I primarily make A2 cards so I’m happy with the original. Thanks, Simon. I think you were very thorough.
I completely agree about needing one that will work with 12x12 paper. I would jump on buying this product if I could use it for projects all the way up to a scrapbook page.
I just made my own personalised patterned gift wrap using the Sizzix studio platform on a roll of kraft paper. I also use it for journalling and on canvases. The hinge adapter is a game changer. Only con is paper tacky mat, but you can use other mats instead.
I’m an SLP working part time with inpatient rehab patients- many have had strokes and can’t always use one hand. The sticky mats also works for them working jigsaw puzzles, holding a notebook still while trying to write, etc. Excellent Review! Thanks
Thanks for the honest review, Simon! Our tools are investments and it’s important to be well informed before making a costly purchase, even if it’s a hobby like it is for me. I also appreciate your remarks about appreciating the engineering and efforts on the part of companies like Altenew in keeping pace with what makes our craft better and more enjoyable. You are a gem!
This is what I feel about everything. I always watch everything for a while. Watch the kinks get worked out along with others work with the product to figure out what they like and don't like so I can figure out what I would do differently for myself.
Thank you so much for the honest review! So many people say they are giving true opinions- but don’t really. You gave a great tutorial along with your true and honest opinion. Crafting can get expensive and you make great & valid points to help make an informed decision…(that’s why I follow you & use your products) Thanks again!! 🍁🍁
So glad you found the video helpful. I love to make these types of videos to really help you all make super informed decisions. While still keeping it positive, I love to share what the tool can do. That way, if it doesn't work for something you find important you can decide the tool isn't for you. :)
Thanks for the review! I recently got a Stampwheel, which I love for my desk size but had been wondering with being a pensioner if I should spend money I can’t really afford, when I’d only recently bought the first one. I do love the upgrades they’ve made with the lifting edge & slightly bigger size for those of us who enjoy scrapbooking as well.
As someone who doesn't do many crafts but somehow stumbled here this is lovely to listen to, thorough but precise. Keep doing what you're doing mate :)
I've been on the fence about purchasing the stampwheel. These updates are enough for me to add the 2.0 to my craft room. Thank you for your candid and detailed review.
Since you raised the concern about the removable side possibly being spongy and not stamping as well, I wish you had demonstrated whether or not it works well with the side removed.
Thank you for your honest and thorough review. I did not understand what the purpose of the original stamp wheel was. You have explained everything. I hope they continue to make the original because my workspace is limited. I think I will be getting the original one and some of the accessories, but the big one is just too big for me. I don’t work with stamps that large anyway. Again, I appreciate your explanation and I’m saving this video for future reference. I thank you for everything you do.
I was very excited. I recently purchased the waffle sticky mat, with multiple layered Simon Hurley stencils. I was super excited to use all of it! I was super sad that the sticky waffle mat removed the stencil lining and I can’t get it off the sticky mat. Didn’t come with any warnings that this would happen. I thought that it was used to hold your stencils down. I must’ve been mistaken.
Oh sorry that happened. I bought the largest waffle flower, the 9x12 Altenew one , and the cheap ones from the large online company in China. The waffle flower one annoys me. I really really struggle removing the backing sheet. The mat is far too sticky and goodness knows why they are supplying acetate sheets that destroy photopolymer, instead of polyester sheets, but every brand seems to be guilty of that. I also think for the price the better guide sheets they also have, should be included, not sold separately. Simon does warn about which side of the stencils to use in his videos so it is a shame you didn't see them first, but I agree it is bad practice on waffle flower's part. My daughter did have a play while I was out and she used wrong side down on the cheaper version and there was no damage at all. I will not buy any more from WF, I would buy more Altenew Ultra ones for the quality, the textured side makes the extra stickiness more practical, but I use the cheap versions more for when I am using inks that stain, like reds and blues , or when working with glitter or powders on the same project, as there is no need to worry about spoiling them. I also use them for holding inkpads in place and my bottles of ink for calligraphy and parchment art.
I love larger especially dies and cuts. That is why I love your stamps and dies. Who decided A2 cards anyway,to small. So I am looking for arche dies that are larger and wider please make some. Thank you Simon…..
Hi Simon. Thank you for this thorough video. I like how you explained what the new features are and showed how to use them. I am a 5x7 card maker and I see how it is helpful for hanging stamps off the edge of the card stock. That was a great point to bring out and show. Now I am interested.
Hi Simon, I think I would like the platform tighter than too loose. As long as the stamp wheel won't be damaged over time but having it more snug will just ensure that it stamps perfectly.
Thanks for the review! Nice to know the differences! I like the stamp wheel because you don't have to flip it open to the side. You just need the space for the size of the base. I'm a messy crafter and don't always have the extra space on my workstation hehe :)
I am in need of a new stamping platform... and am interested in the Stampwheel. Thank you so much for your comprehensive review. You provided the info I needed in a concise manner. GREAT video!!
Thank you Simon for giving your honest review. I had heard about this upgrade but didn't know the ins and outs of the product before watching your video.
I appreciate your reviews. You give us the detailed info we need to know to decide on the items then you tell us how to use it. The improvements are well thought out and executed. I love Altenew’s layering stamps and this does seem to be the optimal way to use them. This tool also gives stampers another way to use our stamps with making wreaths. Always a good thing. I would request it as a gift or say I am saving up for it and cash would be appreciated. You are correct that we each need to evaluate because what’s good for one may be bad for another. For those of us with bad hands this may not be the right tool but I know if my hands were in better shape I would love to have one. ✂️✂️✂️✂️✂️(🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟) another 5 scissors vid. 😁
This tool is hand saving. You don’t have to press very hard to get a good impression & no pressure tool needed either. Speaking from experience with having ailment that affects my hands.
@@bertas-cards Thanks for your extra input. I did notice Simon was using the heel of his hand to press The top when it was stubborn to go down. I have a huge amount of nerve damage in my hands and my fingers don’t manipulate well. I drop things a lot which makes a mess in the craft room🙄😂For me it’s the flipping of the lid/top (i’m sorry I forgot what it’s called) that’s going to be stressful. I have another tool that’s a very early version. It’s a big investment to find out it makes my hands go totally numb. I’m going to think about the original one because it’s smaller. If I only use it with the layered flowers… I wonder. Maybe… Thanks again for your input because you are making me re think. I’m going to rewatch Simon paying close attention to his fingers and gripping which is where I have the most trouble. The fact that I can craft is a miracle. After I was injured I couldn’t hold a pencil. Unfortunately that was only the tip of the iceberg. I can craft if I am careful 😁
I appreciate your reviews. The Stampwheel is the #1 buy for me this year. I love it. I waited until I saw it on sale and got it. I check Altenew every other day for their deals. I do want the new 2.0 but will also wait a bit for it.
I love your review on this new 2.0 version and see so many great uses for it. I just recently got the original size and I see the 2.0 would be a great addition like you say for bigger project I might want to work on. I love having the option. And well said, we must give kudos to the company for constantly thinking of how to innovate their products to get more benefits. You Rock Simon 🤘
Thank you for this amazing review. I was on the fence with original because I have a Misti, but after seeing this review I convinced Hubby that I NEEDED the 2.0 for Christmas 😉
I’m so glad the larger size is available and I was hoping you’d do a review. My favorite stamping technique is using layering stamps and mass producing cards. What I want to do is place a full sheet of card stock in the stampwheel and end up stamping a finished card in each quadrant before cutting the card stock to make 4 card fronts. Is that possible to do by removing the one edge? I hope that makes sense. Could you do a demo if you find that it’s possible? Thanks, Simon!
I have the small Misti, and I’ve been considering getting the larger one for larger projects. Now I have something else to consider! LOL. The sticky mat is making this one seem a better option… Your reviews are always excellent. You cover a lot, and seem very honest in your opinions and suggestions. Thank you!
Thank you for the review! I’ve never seen the StampWheel in action, and it seems like a great product. But was very startled by the price. Will wait for Black Friday as another commenter posted. Gave you a thumbs up and am already subscribed.
I agree with you Simon re 12× 12 for Scrapbooking....it's really annoying when you want to stamp on your page & you ruin it due to not being able to reposition it properly...Great review & comments & as you say keep it positive as these companies do their best to please everyone at an enormous cost to them...😊😊❤😊
Thanks for another great review, Simon. I love my original Stampwheel. While there are features on the new one I like, I am going to make out just fine with what I have. If I didn't have a Stampwheel yet, I would buy the bigger one. I usually add inside sentients after I have assembled my card, so taking off one edge to allow my card to fit at 8 1/2 or 10 inches would be perfect.
I hadn’t noticed this tool at all until this new one. I’m not entirely happy with the particular stamp platform that I have, so I am really interested in this. I feel like it will be better for my crafting. It’s a little pricey, but I feel like if I got the smaller one, it wouldn’t be as versatile for me. Thanks for your review!
Wow! This stampwheel is really nice. You gave a lot of good tips and tricks and ideas. Also, the things that you showed were just wonderful. I am very impressed by this, however, I feel and this is my opinion that the price is outrageous. There is no reason for this stampwheel or the previous one to be the cost that it is. But truly, I thank you for showing this to us. 😊🤗
I recently got the original Stampwheel, I got it on sale and I love it, I don’t think I need the larger size, plus it looks like the new one wouldn’t fit in the drawer I use for storage. I don’t make anything larger than 5x7. They still need to add a grid at the bottom (I bought their thin sticky mat and that works great. It’s meant to be used with cling stamps, but I use it mostly for the A2 markings). Thanks for the video!
Simon, thanks for doing this video. I had no idea they were coming out with a new version and I just ordered the original one when they had it on sale a couple of weeks ago. I wish I would have known about the larger version but I really think the original size will be fine for me. Thanks again.
Thank you for the review. I thought about buying the first model. To get regular patterns I used either the Crafter's Companion Stamping Platform or the We R Makers Precision Press, both allowing for good results. Then Sizzix released their own stamping platform with the spinning wheel, and I chose that one over the Altenew. And that's my current favorite for all kinds of stamping, very versatile because you also can lock the hinges up and down, like for example the SU stamping platform. The Tim Holtz and the Stampin'Up look now very sad 😉
The plates are sometimes defective when cut. I bought a radial plate and it was totally off. I only knew because I had the original plate for comparison. When they sent a replacement it was perfect. It should be a tight fit but never where you have to push down
agreed! I shared that so that if anyone is having a similar issue they would know to contact Altenew about it. Sometimes there are errors in manufacturing and companies are usually always willing to help remedy the issue. :)
Great review Simon. I would have liked to see the lift out edge be magnetic. I would like to see both types of flip plates included with this version. Had issues getting a gridded flip plate that fit properly with original version. My tip would be to wait & order when the grid flip plate is available. I agree 12.5” would make sense for scrapbookers & for larger card styles & home decor. I put my own ruler tape on my stampwheel.
I would love to see Simon design a few mini scrapbook pages! Perhaps a little 6"x6" album using the Sizzix Bookbinding & Label die by Eileen Hull (that's my favorite one, lol). He could use stock photos or take photoes just for the album at events and holidays, and leave the area for memories blank, just for the youtube video. He makes incredible cards, I bet he would design fantastic scrapbook layouts with super cute details!
QUESTION?????Hi Simon. i am considering purchasing this after your review. Has your Flip Plate gotten less tight since this review, or is it a defect? Thank you for your help.
Thanks for the review! I just bought the SW in June. I had a feeling they’d release a new improved one soon but I looked all over and found nothing to show that so I went ahead and got one. That’s ok, I love it! It is disappointing that 2.0 won’t hold a 12x12 page, although I imagine in the design it would have made the product too big with the flip plate on the 2.0 being 13 inches already. I was thinking they missed an opportunity of adding a ruler until you showed it us in 2 sides. I would prefer on all 4 because I do like to be sure to center everything in all directions and that would be more helpful. I am glad they came out with a grid-line flip plate as well, that is on my list bc it can be hard to get stamps lined up straight on the wreath plate that comes with it. So far I haven’t had anything too big for the original SW to handle, I feel like it’s a great size. I was surprised when I got it, I had thought it would be a little bigger than it is.
Thanks for the review. I bought the original Stampwheel when it came out and I love it. I have the billowing peonies and it is hard to work with in this Stampwheel; however, I do not see the benefits for another at this time. It's a great idea!
I’m a little surprised they didn’t just make it 12” x 12” so scrapbookers could use it. The MISTI comes in such a size, if I’m not mistaken. I have one, I just haven’t unpacked it yet since my recent move. Ha, you just said that, Simon!
I also love my 9 x 12 ultra mat for with my Dyan Reavley stencils, but replacing acetate sheet with polyester ones as acetate destroys photopolymer. I was going to buy this until Sizzix leaped ahead with their new adapter. I love that I can work on any size paper and also on canvases and art journals etc. I do want to know if this tool does anything the Sizzix Studio doesn't. Does the smalller sections and more turns make finer detailed patterns and wreaths possible ? If so I will buy this one too . I have a good collection of rubber peg stamps I finally unmounted to use with great results on new tool, as I always found freehand wreath making with rubber on wooden dowels harder than it looked. I have lots of clear stamps thatt filled up space on A4 sheet of stamps that came with a monthly mag, that are tiny like the peg ones and am hoping a larger number of rotations would enable the use of these ttiny stamps to fill in gaps.
You know you made a comment about the wheel being hard to place on the base. Mine has been from the beginning and I did the pre-order. Maybe I should contact them because I don't use it because of this problem. I have messed up more than one card because of that. Also, I am glad to see that they made it thinner to be able to stamp red rubber stamps. What do you think? I would return it and order the new one, however, I have never had a good response to their customer service department which is a shame. Should all stencils be flipped to the shiny side to the sticky grid like yours? I never knew that.
In your opinion, is this better than the misti? Also, I can't put colors together to make my cards look their best, and blending inks, sometimes I get muddy colors. Do you have a video that reveals how to pair up colors?
Hi Simone, love this review and 2.0 version is amazing. One thing, and not even sure if you have a way to fix this but when you put up product information on the screen I can't see closed caption. For me it's bot a huge deal but for friend's i know they would have issues.
I appreciate your review of the product, I'm still not sure if I need it. It is still on pre-order; do you think it will be on sale during the Holidays?
Hi Simon. i am considering purchasing this after your review. Has your Flip Plate gotten less tight since this review, or is it a defect? Thank you for your help.
why are we still doing Christmas? Can we get some Labor day cards, 4th of July cards, summer. cards?... I love Christmas but some summer cards would be fun!
Hi friend! In this video, I shared a mix of some summery and floral cards as well as fall cards. Feel free to create whatever theme of cards inspire you at this time! :)
Actually, it is sticky on both sides. I didn't even notice that lol. I prefer to leave it unstick on the bottom. It still stays in there very nicely. They will make more and it will be back in stock soon I'm sure. :)

Sometimes it’s better not to jump on a new product right away, but let the company work out the kinks and come out with an upgraded version…or two.

Loved your input on the product. I have the original and love it but I also do larger cards so this will be great for me. Thank you Simon.
I my current StampWheel and for now, because of space, will keep it and maybe upgrade at a later date. Thanks for the excellent review!
Right on!👍🏻
A fair and detailed reviews. Kudos.
Thank you Simon. This was a very interesting and informative review. Love your honest reviews
My plate was really tight on my original Stamp Wheel, but it has loosened up over time.
Simon, thanks for doing this video. I had no idea they were coming out with a new version and I just ordered the original one when they had it on sale a couple of weeks ago. I wish I would have known about the larger version but I really think the original size will be fine for me. Thanks again.
Yes! I think the original size is still great. I’ll be using it lots still. /)
Thanks, Simon. I love the size and what it can do. Going to save my pennies for this one!
Yay! You are going to love it.
Thanks 😊 this was very helpful and informative
Great review Simon. I would have liked to see the lift out edge be magnetic. I would like to see both types of flip plates included with this version. Had issues getting a gridded flip plate that fit properly with original version. My tip would be to wait & order when the grid flip plate is available. I agree 12.5” would make sense for scrapbookers & for larger card styles & home decor.
I put my own ruler tape on my stampwheel.
Agreed on all points! I wish the edge was magnetic as well. Although it doesn’t feel flimsy, it would have made it stronger. :)
@@simon.hurley I will wait about getting the 2.0. I love my original - just not big enough for full-size slimline cards.
Thanks for your viewpoints!
You’ve inspired me to dig into my paper crafting again!
Thanks, Simon!
Greatly appreciate your thorough review and demonstration
I open my Misti like a book, even though I’m right handed it makes more sense to me like that 😀😊
I've been thinking of getting the stamp wheel -- I'll wait now for 2.0.
I love my original stamp wheel and I make larger cards, think this new one very nice too. Great review
Yay! Glad you love it too!
Thanks for the review. I bought the original Stampwheel when it came out and I love it. I have the billowing peonies and it is hard to work with in this Stampwheel; however, I do not see the benefits for another at this time. It's a great idea!
You are an incredible salesman 👏 ❤ 👏
Thank you for you creative ideas. Something to Wedding card ? ❤
Great idea for the 12x12
Great review! I only make 5 x 7 cards, so I’m definitely considering the 2.0!
Yay!! It’ll be great for that!
Great review, Simon!
Great tutorial Simon- question: I use your inks REGULARLY- is there a tutorial on color blends and which colors are light/medium/ dark?
I don’t have a specific color blend guide as of now. :)
Great review on this product even though I have no need for it. Thank you!
I’m a little surprised they didn’t just make it 12” x 12” so scrapbookers could use it. The MISTI comes in such a size, if I’m not mistaken. I have one, I just haven’t unpacked it yet since my recent move.
Ha, you just said that, Simon!
Maybe that will be next.
Very helpful review. Thank you.
Thank you, this was helpful!
Thanks for the honest review.
Where do you store the larger 2.0?
You know you made a comment about the wheel being hard to place on the base. Mine has been from the beginning and I did the pre-order. Maybe I should contact them because I don't use it because of this problem. I have messed up more than one card because of that. Also, I am glad to see that they made it thinner to be able to stamp red rubber stamps. What do you think? I would return it and order the new one, however, I have never had a good response to their customer service department which is a shame. Should all stencils be flipped to the shiny side to the sticky grid like yours? I never knew that.
Wonder if the ranger gelin plate tin would work to store the larger sticky mat... 🤔
wait, that's a brilliant idea omg THANK YOU!!
the tin is slightly too small for the largest sticky mat, but I'm gonna keep on the lookout for a storage solution like that.
I think the larger size will help with slimline cards, too!
Great review.
Hmmm… I need to check into it. Makes it easier for you to find the products I’m using, but I get that that could become an issue.
would the larger sticky mat fit in the stampwheel 2.0 if you remove the edge?
I appreciate your review of the product, I'm still not sure if I need it. It is still on pre-order; do you think it will be on sale during the Holidays?
Hi Simon. i am considering purchasing this after your review. Has your Flip Plate gotten less tight since this review, or is it a defect? Thank you for your help.
@@BoGilmore they sent me a new one. Mine was an earlier sample and I believe this issue was fixed. :)
I wish once you removed the one side you had the option of pulling out a little tray on that side to keep the paper that is hanging over supported.
YES they should have done 12x12 paper capability!
why are we still doing Christmas? Can we get some Labor day cards, 4th of July cards, summer. cards?... I love Christmas but some summer cards would be fun!
Hi friend! In this video, I shared a mix of some summery and floral cards as well as fall cards. Feel free to create whatever theme of cards inspire you at this time! :)
I am from India from Agra
Is the black and white sticky grid, is it sticky on both sides? Do you know if altenew is planning to make more? It's been out of stock forever. 😪
Actually, it is sticky on both sides. I didn't even notice that lol. I prefer to leave it unstick on the bottom. It still stays in there very nicely. They will make more and it will be back in stock soon I'm sure. :)
Was hoping they would come out with a smaller one.
