- I wasn't happy working in my shop, which means I was doing it wrong. In this video I change it up and try to make it more functional. Along the way I take a look at some tools, and the way they can be made better.
Here's the links I mentioned:
The boots I liked eventually:

The bead breaker that works better than my old one:

The fork extensions that I keep bending:

I love your videos. For the 90% of us that can’t afford hundreds of thousands of dollars of projects and materials your content is very relatable. Please keep up the amazing videos and thank you for sharing.
With the high ceiling in your shop you can always build a loft where you can use the space twice
Great job! Best part about a clean shop is the motivation it gives you to start a new project. ❤
I keep telling myself there are definite advantages to having a well organized shop - but at 87, most of my shop/garage projects are history - I wish I could just could have come to your shop prior to its reorganization, and sit there in an ancient worn out overstuffed chair and drink a beer with you while entertaining you with "sea stories" about doing the valve job on my '47 Buick, or rebuilding the flathead 8 in my '50 Merc, etc. when I was stationed a MCAS Cherry Point, and MCB Quantico in the late '50s,
Your videos are the most enjoyable of any I watch, and I wholeheartedly agree with you - If you're not having fun, you're doing it wrong.
You are the only person I know that can make a video about cleaning up a shop and it be entertaining! I appreciate the time you put into making these for us. Please keep the videos coming don’t let the naysayers bother you, all of your subscribers love what you do.
Thanks! I'll definitely keep making videos, I've got a lot more already in the works...
I go through this ''Process'' every few years for 43 now! You find solutions and ''space'' that makes you ask ''How come I didn't do this BEFORE!? OCD is a cruel Mistress!
youve become my favorite on youtube. Surpassing vice grip garage because you do some awesome projects. Can't wait to see what you got coming next. I am surprised you don't have more subscribers. That number should grow pretty quickly.
I came here from VGG too. I like Derek's stuff, but you can tell he's gotten himself too busy. Maybe he's just not enjoying the projects as much, but something definitely changed.
@@TheTulerie Yeah I have noticed that also. I think its probably just fame, and the fact he has a show now. Most peoples content seems to start slipping once they made it pretty big.
Those boot zippers are pretty common in the fire and ems service. Companies make lace in zippers as you get more lazy with more boots
Just having space to do whatever is all my old man wished for, never had opportunity after I returned from Home after my service to my country, he unfortunately passed away few years back. but while I was home the 7+ years I had the great pleasure of enjoying the days of annoying him, asking him menial help on task I could have easily done myself. I would give anything to have him back to enjoy those days again. Love the Shop and the makeover.
Have you caught yourself calling his old number? Dad's been gone for 20 years, I still catch myself trying to call him.
Fortunately my brother has a grounded common sense. Life decisions. Just like dad. He said he would trade in a hot second for my trade skills, as I would trade for his. I am very fortunate to have a brother. Thank God for him. Yes , we both miss dad
Thanks for the content, always fun to watch. I can really relate to 14:11 "as I get older the ground keeps geting further away"
"and hopefully some insulation", while lights shining through cracks in his garage, SMH, this guy cracks me up, you've improved your workspace considerably, I hope ya give us a walk around tour once ya get it done, thanks for sharing.
You just motivated me to clean up my shop as well! Love the content!
I love these types of videos. I took over my storage space four years ago and have been cleaning and setting thing up since.
Just this morning I posted a video where I got to actually cut plywood in the space.
I could watch cleaning videos every day. tHanks for the video
Just simply a flat out enjoyable video that I really relate to! Keep up the great work!
@LowBuckGarage a Few years ago i used 2" 4'X8" Styrofoam board on my garage door then sealed the seams with aluminized tape maybe with some construction adhesive you could get the foam board to stick to the metal without drilling holes the best options would to have the entire shop sprayed with closed cell spray foam 4"-6" thick
Nice workshop with plenty of cracking ideas showing Boss level ingenuity I've come to expect from you🙌🏻
I literally laughed out loud with the fork extension weight demonstration. Thanks for cleaning the shop, it bothered my OCD😂
It was always a good time working in a shop , looks like you're missing the shop tunes ?
Anywho , repurposing tools to make what you need is always a good thing .
Keep up the awesome work
Living in Southern California I have experience with swamp coolers. They're nice, but if it's a humid day it's not going to cool anything off. Humidity in the air changes everything. The air coming out of it ends up being the same temperature as the humid air in the room.
Fast becoming the best channel on my list .the heaps of junk with endless possibilities make me feel normal.keep em coming ! Best from England
Great minds think alike. You use some ideas like I have, but nearing eighty years old I have also forgotten about some.
Dang-it James, now I have to get out into my little shop and clean it up!! I like your bead breaker, the one I bought from Bestool was about $145.00 shipping included.
Lowbuck you got some cool tools , and you know how to use them, but most important you know where they are.
Great video. This seems to be the time for reorganization since the country takes a bit of a break these last two weeks.
The highlight of my day watching these vids
Sadly I can not find nor afford such cool vehicles & gear
Your tremendous effort at organizing, made me look at my shop, and I got so depressed, I went and laid down. I have to work the vertical, where I have big, heavy machines, stacked on other big, heavy machines. I have the material to build a 50 x 40 steel building, and hope to get it done this year.
Man has to take a moment once in awhile and take inventory and organize . Wishing you a your family a blessed CHRIST mas!🙏🙏👍👍🇺🇲👍🙏
"As I get older the ground keeps getting further away" so true, so true!!!
As someone who's back is like a pack of dry spaghetti, even after multiple back surgeries, all my footwear is either slip-on, or it has zippers, I haven't tied a lace more than once in over a decade.
As a side note a lot of elite military and LEO boots are fitted with zippers. You have the laces to get that precise initial fit, but you have the zippers for rapid deployment. It also makes them easier to remove in the even of a foot injury.
You tube ring dinger idk worth a look sorry about your back
Congrats LBG on getting ur shop almost the way u would want-it. The best part is u don't have anybody u can't do-it this way..
i love the way your always thinking out of the box, well done!
Thanks for the tour, you can make what ever you want…
I am a bit jealous.👍😂
A lot of my equipment is also on wheels. I call cleaning up and organizing "reconfiguring the shop". Seems to help.
I SO need to do the same thing with my space! Maybe you will inspire me! 😃
I bought a Submersible deep well pump by VEVOR for less than 1/3 of what Lowe's charged. Been really happy with it so far.
I like the way it illustrated on what weight you can carry on your Fork extensions for your forklift
Great shop. I see a lot of unused space all around by the ceiling. A bunch of shelving way up high would double your storage and maximize your space. Keep up the great videos.
Your hysterical. I love it. I laughed way too hard at the toy jeep on the forks. Thanks so much.
Low buck first. I've lived in a small town in New Hampshire for about 10 years. It's mind boggling what I can get free from the dump, Craigslist or side of the road. Most of my shop equipment was free from clean out jobs or next to the road.
Ah, yes, the swamp cooler. Used to live in Arizona, know about them. I run a shoe-box size swampy in my studio apartment in San Diego. Runs and performs great! Instead of water, I use ice cubes.
I’ve found some good and bad deals on Vevor stuff. I snagged a 12 ton bearing puller/remover that was awesome from them.
Great job there! Nothing wrong with a shop chore day.. it's there fresh ideas emerge. Digging the new improved layout and staging areas my man. Blessings and respect!
Surprisingly entertaining episode - thanks!
Loved this video! Your video's are awesome 👍👍
I have the same exact shelf as in 24:20 I painted mine and I use the shelf in between the 2 cabinets to put my battery chargers for all of my cordless batteries. I put all of my batteries on a shelf underneath it.
That file drawer in 10:35 is the night stand drawer combo we had in the Army back in '91. I am retired now but those drawers are heavy duty.
I just love your channel. Cheers Stuart 🇦🇺
“You don’t have to go fast or have the coolest car to have fun!”
You need to start a podcast!
Love the content! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks I'm on the right track! Rearranging my shop, Make it Fun again!
That rpm tool is exactly how a governor works.
One of the best channels I watch. Has always Liked and shared. A very Merry Christmas to you and yours And the rest of your viewers also.
Nice work I love this channel!
Really enjoying your channel and content lately. Very relatable and down to earth. Thanks for putting these videos together!
Appreciate you letting me into your garage, and showing me around. Real cool format, style of vids. Thanks and peace my brother. Mind if I stop by again?
Absolutely love this channel!!!
Wow he is good --another great awesome mechanic I learn a lot from on U Tube
Low Buck Garage ROCKS
I like how you didn't overload the fork extensions...with the second yellow jeep..😎👍😎
Thanks for all the tips, love the deals, your shop is going to look great when its's done enjoyed the video, thanks
Side zipper boots are wonderful for those of us who have worked as volunteer fire fighters. I really enjoy mine!!
Nice remodel of your shop. I need to do mine, too.
Your videos always inspire me!
You have some excellence temporary permanent fix-ish ideas here. Thanks for the tour.
Sir you and I are kindred spirits. I'm always picking up someone's else's junk, and i'm always complaining about a messy shed. Wish i had as much space as you to work in ! If you ever find yourself in Kentucky give us a shout 🤝
Shop looks great
Low Buck Garage = Hi Value Message.
Breakin the fake without even tryin.
I had a slide vice like that on my old work table. Loved it
SNOW now in Maine so, I am welding rust patches out doors .It looks like you found the wheel off my 1975 opel ,sporty !
Thats a Lincoln 350mp , Which stands for Multi Process. It also has the push pull gun, with a water cooler . The push pull gun and cooler alone are a cool 5 to 6 grand . The welder does Mig steel , stainless , and alum with ease , It has a pulse function. Its also a stick and DC tig capable. I have two units , they are excellent production mid duty welders
I have the utmost respect for you. I did exactly what your doing now, only a bit poorer. I like you, was motivated by money as to what can do. Watch the can, could or should's, as it will make some sense after I make a fool of myself. I figured like you, spending money is irrelevant to what it will do. If it didn't and I figured it should, the game of modify was on. I got many of my tools from older folks who would trade them to me for work done for them. I actually made one of those bead breakers operated by a drill a huge long time ago.. "before the 'blue tooth" or battery powered tools. Since I never really knew what I wanted to do or be when I grew up, I became the kid that people could take advantage of by getting me to do cheaper than some garage or carpenter or plumber or.... lots of "Or's"! I am a bit older than you as I was born in 49 but (always a but) the town I grew up in was behind the times as in a long way behind the times. I was trying to think of something funny but to no avail. I was busy listening to the election reports given by the town cryer who said that "Lincoln has been re elected" ..... okay even that is hoaky as my whole comment has been given here. I suppose this is about as far as I can get you to notice my comment or take of your time. So said, yes, if you want to show me the rest of your tools and reasons of getting or behind why you built it..... By all means do so. No I can't do anything anymore but once in a while someone will ask me, Hey Morg, how ya fix this or can a person do this..... all that said, my pet peeve is someone asking the same question enough times to make a different answer come out their way. I know one thing for sure tho.... I if still able would dearly love to work out of a shop like yours and I mean yours as to working in the modern shops where each and every person is dedicated to just one thing types of repairs. I actually feel sorry for a person in that rut. If you wish, I will e mail you a idea that I never got to do because of moving or time or money.... always a reason as simple as just forgot to come back to the idea. My idea requires some kind of old rig that can be modified to the max for doing firewood/logging. I am sure tho that your never short on ideas as a long nights sleep for guys like us is four hours in a row
Thanks, and I know exactly how you feel! I appreciate you sharing with me. If you want to email your idea to me, I'm at james@low-buck-garage.com
The only thing I don't like about your videos is that they're not long enough. Otherwise they're great 👍
As you get older , the ground gets farther away - LOL , I hear you .........
Always good to see you doing things like I often do. On a bigger scale than me sometimes. Or not. That garage is pretty grand . My trouble is separating workshop from storage. Two separate pirposes that can streamline success when it's in order. Another good one on the right budget.👍
Your videos are awesome!! They make me want to live out in the desert. There is always something too do and the wide expanses are great for any wheeled , tracked creations that come out of the shop. I love the hacked tools. You definitely have a few more Ethan I do but I just found a power hacksaw that I have been searching. for. The weather is always the same also. That would be awesome also.
That looked like hard work. You could see how much you enjoyed it. And like you say if you like it stick with it.
It’s fun to have fun but you have to know how!
Definitely having fun. Thanks
"thats a nice wall" *breaks it*
Glad to see you're sprucing up that shop of yours James! 😁👍 I really need to do the same thing with mine sooner than later. That 4 post movable lift is nice!! Sorry I missed this one, been busy at work with the cold weather. Take care and happy wrenching 🔧🔩
If you want to improve lighting in your shop, paint the floor white. It helps quite a bit. You can also paint the un-insulated portion of the walls white. Some places that recycle building products have 8 ft fluorescent lights from government buildings, these are usually great for shops. If the place also sells extra ballasts for those lights, buy some because when the ballasts get old they self destruct.
I would put a car radio in Those black cupboards. I bet you could wire up a free shop radio in no time
Careful when you are welding with your back to the new shiny wall. It'll reflect UV rays and can give you a "sun" burn. And even reflect into the inside of your helmet.
Happy Holidays great way to start the New Year a little shop organization !
No Sir!!! Lol! 😂 You are definitely not lying about that fact! The point you made about the motor speed controls. Yes Sir, without a factory programming manual to set up all the parameters which could sometimes be hundreds of settings or limits for these frequency converters. Otherwise once you have everything Is set-up, they're pretty awesome tools to help out with accuracy and speed. I put a Mitsubishi speed controller on my 1946 Atlas metal lathe, which makes a huge difference in how much flexibility you have with what use to be a limited piece of equipment. The bonus is for me is having a reverse and the motor is completely variable speed. This added with the addition of the original speed transmissions you have on a lathe or drill press gives you a infinite variety of speeds to choose from. We think in very similar ways my friend, lol! 😉 But keep up the fun times and great projects. 😊
PAINT EVERYTHING WHITE, IT WILL BE VERY LIGHT 👍 LIGHTING HAS A GREAT EFFECT ON MOOD
Also had problem with a Vivor product. Bad weld on a transfer tank. Lost 25 gallons of diesel. Other than not holding fuel...the product was great.
I haven't heard the term swamp cooler in quite a long while.
This is proof there is a parallel universe…. I’m watching a younger me trying to clean my shop but inevitably distracted by anything shiny
or a buddy with beer …
Get ahold of me if you want to know how it ends ..😂
I ❤ Low Buck Garage !
Very entertaining and educational.
Yeah, nice shop, I'm trying to fit all my junk in 300sqft (30m2), including car pit, lathe, drill press, bench, mig welder, press, big parts washer, engine hoist and three tool cabinets... I need more space XD as you said, it's not fun to work there so I'll need to extend building :)
James, that's an awesome shop. Great ideas!!
FYI not all 4 post lifts are you able to leave the vehicle on the lift when you put the wheels on it to move the lift. Ask me how I know. I bent the crud out of the lift-wheel arms with my F-350 on the lift. 😆 Doh!
Nothing an acetylene torch and a rosebud tip can't fix.
Thanks! I'm lucky the car on the lift is pretty light.
@@LowBuckGarage Merry Christmas James. I hope it's warm enough for you. In Roswell, it's still a little 'chile'. 😁
you can buy for less than 5 bucks an insulation knife that is about 8-9 in. long and serrated. They work great.
I wish I had a shop, my tools are scattered between my utility room and tool boxes on 4 trucks. It takes me longer to find the tools I need than the project I’m doing most of the time
Top job and what more do you need than a big general Lee on the wall ❤❤
Coming along great
Great Stuff!!!!
The acoustics sound better with the insulation in place. Nice improvement
Merry Christmas to Low Buck and your family and viewers. Great improvement to your shop, now, if you can just find everything in its new place, it's a win win for you!...
There are a lot of crap Vlogs out there but just discovered you and I'm going to stick around!
happy holidays 2 all at low buck garage.
I like your 'grassroots' approach to things. Hopefully, the fork extension manufacturer saw what safe working capacity you trust with their product.
