Hi AuziahTV, just found your channel, subbed! So far, really like your feedback in the reviewing context.
Since you asked, please review these films:
      #MedicatingtheNormal
      #MedicineforMelancholy
      #Mahogany
#PipeDreams... the Sole movie legendary singer Gladys Knight played/starred in! 1976, yours' is not the channel that can speak on such... but study the name of this film... then study closely the end of this movie... note: Ms. Knight holds a natural womb & a surplus of *Melanin* & she's a #Gemini sun sign... if your Mercury is Retrograde in your natal chart, *it* may d a w n on you *what* 'That' ritual or seemingly a *ritual* was near the end of that film. But did Mama Gladys *know* back then. She never did another movie, hm... let me look up BH's sun sign... okay, one line shows a #Leo b-day, the other, a #Libra b-day. Nevertheless, I think we'd luv *your take* on this film.
Any of the legend's #PamGrier's films! Especially that one where that Karen went to pull her Hair! Got a Rude Awakening!

Honestly, as a writer I would have entirely reworked the script/ plot once I would have seen the lack of chemistry between Lauren and Jonah. When watching a movie you’re supposed to get lost in it, and not be constantly reminded that you’re watching an actor portray a character. For instance, the placement of Nipsey Hussle and his Marathon store felt completely forced and irrelevant to the main plot. It was like the writers were constantly trying to remind us that Lauren is black and Jonah is Jewish. I think the first part of the movie felt promising, because of established character relationships and dynamics between Jonah’s character and his lack of significance with his Jewish culture. Moreover, with Lauren I didn’t grasp the point of her random Muslim background and why they felt it was important to remind the audience that she was Muslim? It felt disrespectful to Muslim’s because it seemed like they were making fun of her dad’s (Eddie Murphy) religion- being that he was only Muslim when it felt convenient for him.
Lastly, if I could’ve had a hand in the script I would have entirely scrapped some of the scenes. Due to the constant scene changes it didn’t allow proper storytelling, therefore most of the scenes didn’t have enough time to marinade. Specifically, the bachelor/ bachelorette scenes- I think those scenes were the best/ most interesting part of the film. In hindsight, if they would have reworked the plot/ script and made the movie solely on Eddie Murphy’s and Julia’s (Jonah’s mom) experience on their daughter/ son in law’s bachelorette/ bachelor night, it would have been a waaaaay better film! All in all, less is more could have really worked in their favor. I think Jonah and Lauren’s nonexistent chemistry made the film uncomfortable to watch. Hell, they could have had Julia Dreyfus and Eddie Murphy be the two love interest and their children could have been the ones against their union 🤷🏽‍♀️. Lol, I wish they would have thought more outside of the box.

So happy I found your page! Your review was the best review that I've seen on UA-cam! All the other reviews, done by black ppl, were just reiterating the plot - instead of really providing constructive criticism. I really hated 'You People'. The casting was the first red flag for me. Nia and Eddie playing the parents of biracial Lauren London? I'm sorry but how old was Lauren and Jonah's characters? Both Nia and Eddie looked 10-15 years younger than Lauren and Jonah. Next. How is it that two dark skinned black ppl are producing light/racially ambiguous kids? Don't get me wrong, we all know that black comes in many shades, but, genetics does not churn out light skin babies, from dark skinned parents, as frequently as black Hollywood likes to cast it. It reminds me of the 'The Best Man Holiday' where they had Morris & Mia's daughter portrayed by two light/biracial kids. Those kids complexions and hair type would have been impossible to produce with the features of Mia and Morris. I just don't understand why black Hollywood is determined to continue with these toxic casting choices. Outside of color struck Cali, there is a whole diverse world of blackness that doesn't begin or end with light skin and light features.
But back to 'You People'; Lauren and Jonah should've been recasted and Kenya should've been removed as writer/producer. Kenya's body of work is almost as bad as Tyler Perry. It makes me wonder if there's a shortage of competent black writers in Hollywood. How do we keep getting saddled with the worst writers and actors? How Sway? At least I know now to block both Kenya and Tyler Perry films smdh.

ALL OF THIS!!! NOT ONE SINGLE LIE TOLD! I will be making a future video about the erasure of brown skinned actors. That one is going to take some time to get right because what I don’t want to do is give any impression that biracial black actors don’t deserve to get roles, but there’s clearly something going on here. Movie was Hot GarBaj.
An Allstar cast and there was no laughing moments.
STRiKE 1, 2, & 3... anything Kenya is behind is starting to get very 1 dimensional, typical, predictable, and is running its course.
And why everything black in this film is very stereotypical... taking the white guy wearing a red hoodie to a barbershop that has Crip gang members in it; GTFOH!!!
This movie was just at times way over the top and super embellished.
I really want this to be done over and re-written by either Issa Rae, Justin Simien, or even Keenan Ivory Wayans if we just want laughter.

I really appreciated your critique on this as this movie is more or less my life. I’m a black Muslim girl (Nation of Islam) engaged to a white Jewish Cohen and we’ve really been through some BS, so we were excited to see our story represented on the big screen. I agree that the love story/race scenes were superficial. Being in a mixed race/religious relationship is HARD. We’ve faced challenges from people we know and don’t know - and none of that inherent struggle was included in the film. I also thought it was interesting that the black family was depicted as distrustful toward Ezra, where as his family was more so “willfully ignorant” because it’s the “willfully ignorant” white families that are the most distrustful of black people as a whole.

It’s just like you said “Undeveloped character traits!” This movie had potential but Kenya’s writing & research abilities are just so 👎🏾!!! Like, what was the point in the family being Muslim anyway? Given everything about Islam {especially with the history of the Nation of Islam}. Lauren’s character was still comfortable kickin’ it with a White Jewish man!?!?!?
When Eddie’s kufi was stomped on, I expected them to expand from that {and they really could’ve}. But the film went on like it had never happened.
What’s also sad is that we have a lot of African-American/Jewish mixes out there. Lauren London is literally a product of that mix! They deserved a good story, and this wasn’t it!☹️

The strip club scene bothered me so much. Add that to the constant profanities spewed by both parties, and neither family seemed all that religious despite religion being a core part of their identities. I feel like the movie could have been just as good had they dropped the religion out of it altogether cause it had no impact other than a few racially charged jokes here and there. I only bring that up because most religious families from the Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) would not be able to relate to these characters at all. In fact, some might be outright offended at the portrayal of Muslims being present at a strip club or Jewish characters being portrayed as pedophiles. It seems like just another thing to check off the inclusivity box while making a mockery of the religion.

Some of the comedy is funny but I'm glad I wasn't the only one that had an issue with the character development. Jonah's character was trash because he was "woke" but didn't really know anything about black culture and couldn't hold his own in a conversation about black issues when approached. It really irritated me because the movie had potential to be so much better. Like I was trying to figure out what exactly Lauren's character fell in love with. This sets it up for the Jewish actors Jonah Hill and Julia Louis Dreyfus to confront the alleged "anti semitism" of Min Farrakhan and consequently all Muslims.
