      @@koboldparty4708 @bobmcguffin5706 This is the reason I don't watch any anime that tries to emulate another country's history. The Japanese seem to understand even less than Americans do about history, which is a feat. Not a good one, but they manage it. There were people who did sign up, but gladiator fighting was primarily a slave sport. That being said, while someone else technically did own you, as a gladiator, if you lived long enough and were good enough, you'd be a goddamn celebrity, and you could actually earn/ buy your freedom. That being said, most slaves chose to stay gladiators because outside of potentially dying, you're set for life.

      Becoming gladiators was actually something that some people volunteered to do sometimes in ancient Rome. You'd get a shit load of money and a lot of fame and recognition if you were successful. But, not all were slaves and this was not an example of the people who volunteered.

      It's like, not like "so bad it's amusing," or "so bad it's good," but rather it's like watching a good artist draw the most random stuff, like one of those randomiser challenges where tiktok artists go to some wheel or something, spin it, and draw whatever shows up. Fun fact: Gladiators fighting to the death was a rare thing. Like, would you buy a Porsche just so you could crash it? Because owning a gladiator was like owning a super expensive car. It was done for the bragging rights, not to throw all the time and money it took to train them off a bridge.

    • @daredaemon8878
      @daredaemon8878 3 роки тому +411

      Yeah and if a gladiator died the entity hosting the games had to pay the gladiator's owner a large stack of money in compensation.
      It was common enough to remind the audience that death is on the line and satiate their bloodlust, but no more than that.

      From what I understand in the colosseum in Rome gladiator fights weren't actually that common. There would be a handful of gladiator v gladiator fights each weeks but most of the entertainment came from things like executions, animal fights, and gladiator v animal fights (like lions or bears). Even during gladiator fights there was this unspoken rule among the gladiators to try not fatally wound the other gladiator. Sometimes a particular gladiator would be favored by the crowd and that gladiator could actually get quite wealthy (at least for gladiators) and the people running the arena would make sure that gladiator doesn't get killed.

I look up when the sexy kiss music plays, I watch a pretty boy become hornier, and I feel peace in my heart. And those transformation designs really are the best... I laughed my ass off and rewound the part about the MC’s mom LITERALLY DYING FROM ACTING so many times. WOW. So absurd it’s actually incredible. A spectacle.

    just when selective memory helped me forget about the fact that I watched the first 8 episodes of Osamake hoping it'd get better, you hit me up with a reminder of all the time I wasted

    I'm a martial artist and I LOVE realistic martial arts anime. Cestvys had great choreography based in real martial arts concepts, like a worse Hajime no Ippo. The kicker comes from its hot garbage of a plot, like when they spent MULTIPLE episodes explaining "Hey, maybe you should flex your muscles before you hit your target?", a concept Ippo learned literally BEFORE HE EVEN LEARNED TO BOX

      Yes, the fights and the psychological aspects of them was the best part. It's like they blow all the time, budget and energy solely on the fights. The show was terrible, but I enjoyed those little moments.

      I think the story and where it’s going is very interesting and this could have been an amazing show if not for the animation. The fights were good the narration of the hits was interesting. This show would have been a must watch if it wasn’t for the cruddy cgi. Such a shame.

    When he said “this is like your saterday morning cartoon I was just thinking hell yeah I love that feeling on nostalgia of watching shows like Pokémon and beyblade when it was super early in the morning when I had nothing else to do. I might watch this!
    A few seconds later … Nevermind…

    Just the description of the main character's mother dying from acting too well was hilarious so in a way it succeeded at comedy.

    So you clearly showed the image, but I feel like you really ought to have spoken aloud the fact that in Osamake, Shirokusa has a doll of her crush that she's always hugging. That's some yandere stuff right there.
