I do have my favorites but not really 'art' films ("My Man Godfrey" "The Young In Heart" "The Admirable Crichton" "The Scarlet Pimpernel" amongst others). I think Pinewood studios did art much better than Hollywood. I'm talking about the story over the earnings.

Beautifully filmed, especially in the desert scenes. Intelligent storyline also, especially for the human emotions.
The contrast between how this movie and 1950s Hollywood (or even today) portray other cultures and ethnicities is as bright as day. Soviets were way ahead of the their times.

This film was my childhood trauma. The killing was absolutely heartbreaking. Always felt sorry for him. He wasn't even a bad guy. Love this mix of laughter and sadness in films. Just like in real life.

This is a film with a very humane touch in it made in the USSR after all. At least the Soviets showed the reality not only black and white. Unlike it's done in the Hollywood movies.
