I mean, real in a sense that, when you look into Niko's background and what he's been through in his past, you feel like you're engaged in a live conversation with Niko, as player with protagonist, where Niko's telling the story and capturing players with details and vivid imagery. All of it being so real, it's what makes him a man of character.
Claude was the most bad ass out of all of them , I got GTA 3 on release day back in October 2001 , he was the most ruthless , he betrayed & murdered aslong as you payed him , he was remorseless , but only the real OGs know this

The Franklin character didn't fit in at all and felt like an intrusion considering how the storyline heavily revolved around 2 friends coming to terms with the idea that one faked his own death to get away and now has to deal with the other coming around to it. Plus, someone mentioned that Franklin's background story has been used before so it made it uninteresting.
Niko Bellic is one of my favorite protagonists of all time, he may come across as depressing and suffered a lot from his past, but he is a legend, and what I like about Niko is that he's sarcastic, funny, intelligent and memorable

Niko Cj Michael Nikos story in IV was perfectly written in every sense of the word, he’s a legend in my eyes. Once you become emotionally attached to a video game character they’re seen differently from that point on through your eyes and that’s exactly how I see niko, he’s the perfect gta character. Cj is amazing too but his story has a lot more action packed shootouts and death and destruction while nikos kills were personal and you felt the same way niko did during most of the scenes👌🏻
To me Niko is the most morally good character in the series, he's not after wealth or about being on top or anything like, he's just a guy with a dark past trying to live a normal life and was dragged into the criminal underworld.

But we also gotta take in consideration that the game took place in 92 when LA was in all time high for murders due to gangs. People like him because he gets pussy and he's "cool". #11 Claude Speed: I know he's from a 2001 game but... he is no character at all.
Yeah, Luis actually isn't that bad I blame the constantly bitching to the whole cast of retarded characters he has to deal with like Yusuf, Mori, Armando and Henrique... IMO TBoGT was the prologue of what GTA V would be when it comes to characters.
Yeah, everytime I go back to LC I'm like "I'm back home!" You know that meme where they show the San Andreas map and it says that people know that map better than their city's? In my case that happens with GTA IV map, I don't know why but LC feels way mor alive and believable than LS. Yep, apart from Michael, Franklin and Dave Norton, characters in GTA V are sooo overly stereotyped that feel like cartoon characters. Even Lester which is nice in GTA V gets his personality exagerated in GTA Online. Sadly, this is what kids like, they like parachutes, fiighter jets, APC's, explosions and Trevors and GTA V sold so well that I doubt we see a change in GTA VI more so after seeing how greedy Rockstar has been with GTA Online.
Tommy Vercetti yeah when you look back Louis is just trying to keep everything and everyone afloat and alive but is constantly blamed for everything even when they mess up which includes his mom
I agree, niko is the best character. He's an honest honorable man, he has so much good in him but is trapped in a life of crime and is scarred by the ugliness of this world. I'm so sad because he didn't get a happy ending which in a way makes him even more relatable as a character because most of us in life have suffered similarly.
"Suffered similarly" because he was one time running and because a theif took his wallet and he was suffering from running and actually he stepped in a cow's poop , this was it as he suffered lol
Niko was the most realistic character, in the most realistic story. Tommy is the coolest one, and the one who took matters into his own hands from the very beginning. But my favorite will always be CJ, because he can do everything, he's cool, funny, and lives in the best virtual reality. He managed to live a lot of different lives during the gametime and make some amazing decisions for a gangster.

It's obvious Tommy don't have many abilities but he is best at what he does. Also he is 💯% badass character as he cares for no one and can kill someone brutally if required. He had a mission to be at the top of the Vice city and to punish those guys who betrayed him back in past. He did it step by step and finally conquered everything he wanted. No doubt, GTA Vice city is easily one of the greats of all time but without "Tommy Vercetti" it was not possible. By the way, Tommy's shirt is cool.

Sven Van Wessel Which sucks because people there act like it's cod or battlefield or something. All people there do is randomly shoot everyone on sight. Story wise gta san andreas,gta 4 etc are better but not gameplay wise.
My personal favorite is Tommy. Nostalgia blinded for sure Vice City was the first GTA I played and beat... but man I thought Tommy was clam, collected, and had some cool one liners for the time.
Niko Bellic is my personal favourite because he’s had a hard life and he tries to help his cousin get money and save his life and to find someone and also escape from Ray Bulgarian because he apparently owed him money and is betrayed and you know when he finally succeeds he gets his girlfriend or his cousin killed by Dimitri rascalov or Jimmy pegg and in the end after revenge and everything he wants he regrets most of it and feels lonely and depressed like zac said I reckon he’s the best and most well written character in the whole GTA series
For me luis lopez from tbogt was just the best, loved that character, total beast unfortunately the story was too short (dlc), they should make another
Hey i actually like Toni Cipriani. I think he meshes well with the theme of the game. Isnt every gta character basically a yes-man? Toni makes that inescapable lapdog thug structure of GTA somewhat grounded (I think toni does a better job at this than trevor, who just feels too cartoony and obnoxious for me). Hes a loyal psychopath with repressed emotional issues. I like to think his rampages are his frustrations with his mom bursting from the seams, taking his anger out on enemies and innocent bystanders alike... I want to see Toni as Leone don, set after gta3, trying to balance the job of resurrecting the Leone family and dealing with his own mother's death. Turn the character around to be the leader for once, see how he deals with not having somebody to follow obediently like his mom or boss... the character is great, i just think Rockstar royally under- utilized his potential.
I am from Serbia and here we laugh how accent of voice actor sucks. Maybe beacuse voice actor is American but I can't take it seriosly and his Serbian voice ruined many emotional scenes.
Claude is simply a legend. CJ is my personal favorite, but when I think of GTA, Claude comes to mind because he was the first real character from the series.

I remember Victor Vance being one of the first protagonists that I really took a liking to in GTA VCS. Just a really down to earth and rather relatable character in the way the he acts and responds to the situations and consequences that are given to him throughout the story. Has great character background as well. Just an all round great GTA protagonist.
Claude: Boring and flat Franklin: Rich character with lore who has a group dynamic of how he speakes. his hidden daddy issues and loyalty. His only reason for him to leave the ghetto is because Tanisha don't like that. So he acts mature to win her back.
My 3 favorite gta characters are: 1) Michael (because he does anything to survive and help his family) 2) Tommy (because he had a smart plan to make money without getting caught) 3) CJ (because he helped his family and friends a lot)
Honestly michael is one of the best chatacters, and if gta5 had 1 protagonist if michael was it he would've been great, and his development throughout the story of becoming less psychotic, and respecting his family more shows how much he grown, I do agree with his list but I believe michael should've been higher

#1 Niko Bellic: Most developed and best written character in GTA story. Ever.
#2 Tommy Vercetti: Epitome of GTA badassery without being totally psychotic like Trevor.
#3 Michael De Santa: Greatly written with many flaws like any real criminal would have.
#4 Carl Johnson: Relatable, good developmente through the game from hood mentality to wanting to leave the hood behind.
#5 Johnny Klebitz: Another flawed character, good story, loyal to the brotherhood and with a sad ending for a change.
#6 Trevor: Really interesting at the beginning but gets boring and annoying as the game progresses.
#7 Tony Cipriani: Kind of boring but at least he makes sense as through the whole game.
#8 Franklin: Cool but after the first heist becomes totally forgotten in the story, just busts some cars and chooses the ending.
#9 Victor Vance: I like the guy but his attitude makes no sense. Says "I don't wanna sell drugs" while bulding a drug empire.
#10 Luis López: Just bitches about everything through the whole game. People like him because he gets pussy and he's "cool".
#11 Claude Speed: I know he's from a 2001 game but... he is no character at all.
Yeah, Luis actually isn't that bad I blame the constantly bitching to the whole cast of retarded characters he has to deal with like Yusuf, Mori, Armando and Henrique... IMO TBoGT was the prologue of what GTA V would be when it comes to characters.
Yeah, everytime I go back to LC I'm like "I'm back home!" You know that meme where they show the San Andreas map and it says that people know that map better than their city's? In my case that happens with GTA IV map, I don't know why but LC feels way mor alive and believable than LS.
Yep, apart from Michael, Franklin and Dave Norton, characters in GTA V are sooo overly stereotyped that feel like cartoon characters. Even Lester which is nice in GTA V gets his personality exagerated in GTA Online. Sadly, this is what kids like, they like parachutes, fiighter jets, APC's, explosions and Trevors and GTA V sold so well that I doubt we see a change in GTA VI more so after seeing how greedy Rockstar has been with GTA Online.

I agree, niko is the best character. He's an honest honorable man, he has so much good in him but is trapped in a life of crime and is scarred by the ugliness of this world. I'm so sad because he didn't get a happy ending which in a way makes him even more relatable as a character because most of us in life have suffered similarly.

Niko was the most realistic character, in the most realistic story. Tommy is the coolest one, and the one who took matters into his own hands from the very beginning. But my favorite will always be CJ, because he can do everything, he's cool, funny, and lives in the best virtual reality. He managed to live a lot of different lives during the gametime and make some amazing decisions for a gangster.

It's obvious Tommy don't have many abilities but he is best at what he does. Also he is 💯% badass character as he cares for no one and can kill someone brutally if required.
He had a mission to be at the top of the Vice city and to punish those guys who betrayed him back in past. He did it step by step and finally conquered everything he wanted. No doubt, GTA Vice city is easily one of the greats of all time but without "Tommy Vercetti" it was not possible.
By the way, Tommy's shirt is cool.

My personal favorite is Tommy. Nostalgia blinded for sure Vice City was the first GTA I played and beat... but man I thought Tommy was clam, collected, and had some cool one liners for the time.
Niko Bellic is my personal favourite because he’s had a hard life and he tries to help his cousin get money and save his life and to find someone and also escape from Ray Bulgarian because he apparently owed him money and is betrayed and you know when he finally succeeds he gets his girlfriend or his cousin killed by Dimitri rascalov or Jimmy pegg and in the end after revenge and everything he wants he regrets most of it and feels lonely and depressed like zac said I reckon he’s the best and most well written character in the whole GTA series

Hey i actually like Toni Cipriani. I think he meshes well with the theme of the game. Isnt every gta character basically a yes-man? Toni makes that inescapable lapdog thug structure of GTA somewhat grounded (I think toni does a better job at this than trevor, who just feels too cartoony and obnoxious for me). Hes a loyal psychopath with repressed emotional issues. I like to think his rampages are his frustrations with his mom bursting from the seams, taking his anger out on enemies and innocent bystanders alike... I want to see Toni as Leone don, set after gta3, trying to balance the job of resurrecting the Leone family and dealing with his own mother's death. Turn the character around to be the leader for once, see how he deals with not having somebody to follow obediently like his mom or boss... the character is great, i just think Rockstar royally under- utilized his potential.

I remember Victor Vance being one of the first protagonists that I really took a liking to in GTA VCS. Just a really down to earth and rather relatable character in the way the he acts and responds to the situations and consequences that are given to him throughout the story. Has great character background as well. Just an all round great GTA protagonist.
