This was actually good for me, everywhere I looked it stated that the directions on thinning should be on the paint label, but couldn't find it but this gives me a start. Thanks again

I recently bought the 5500 but struggled trying to get my latex primer thinned enough to spray correctly. I tried 10%, 15% and 20% dilution but kept getting splatter. I patiently used the Ford cup to measure viscosity but that is frustrating. Finally I tried 25% water and got a good sprayable mix using the 2mm needle. I sprayed my new drill press cart and achieved great results. Now I have confidence using it.

I use a HVLP gravity feed 2.5 tip 30% thinning and have no problems

Learned the hard way that under 160 seconds and “sprayable” does NOT mean it will spray well. I followed that rule and my paint came out poorly with lots is spatter and massive orange peel texture. You need to thin it down much more than 10% or 160 seconds. Maybe more like 15-20%. And I’d say making a portion of that Floetrol or similar product is a MUST.

I never had good luck spraying latex with the 5500. In order to get any results I had to thin the paint way too much. I gave up and purchased a Fugi sprayer and what a difference. The unit performs wonderfully and I can get professional results.

Finally, a way to know if my ratio is right! Every other source I've seen just says, "add a thinner until it looks right" Thank you.

Good advice. I like to drill 3/8 holes in my paint stick (prob 1" wide stick). That way ithe hiles let the paint thru the stick giving better mixing.

You should place the viscosity cup immediately into a cup of water. I do that with my brushes etc. They will clean up a lot faster.

if thinned too much is a gloss paint going to have less gloss?

    Here's what you do:
Pour the paint into the bucket.
Add ½ cup of water for every gallon of paint.
    Mix thoroughly.
Check the thickness by running the paint through a funnel. If it flows freely through the funnel, you know the paint is thinned enough.

Your recommended method likely works for experienced spray finishers, but those with less experience should use a viscosity cut and measure what it actually is.

I have already painted a few places on my house with out adding water and I want to use a sprayer in a few places but I have been told using water changes the color. I used a thinner that did not change the color many years ago but I don't know what it is called. Do you and can we still get it?

Any reason you didn't stir the paint before pouring it into the cup?

Very disappointed in my Earlex sprayer. Thinned some oil based interior primer to 120 seconds. Tried a 2.5, 2.0 and a 1.5 needle and tip. The spray looked like ". Orange peel" wall texture. Brush application looks 300% better.

Same thing going on with me. Is it the gun or user error? I guess I'll call customer support.

    • @Earlex_Woodworking

Hello, Eric! Yes, the same steps will apply. The SprayPort 6003 has more power so less thinning will be required.

Can latex paint be thinned using boiled linseed oil ?

    • @Earlex_Woodworking
      @Earlex_Woodworking  Рік тому

Hello! No, for latex paint you will only want to use water or a water based paint conditioner. Wagner Paint Easy would be a good option: www.amazon.com/Wagner-Paint-Easy-Latex-Conditioner/dp/B000KKPBRM
