In most cases she is absolutely right with her hypothesis. The problem is that we sometimes forget that man is matter and spirit. Am tempted to think that we praise worth too much and depend too much on the value of money. When you rely too much on money God simply makes it scarce and valueless in order to depend on Him.

it is truely a depressing situation. i - and i may only speak for myself - and i don't want to become even more depressed: therefore i propose to find the balance between all ambiguous meanings of 'qe'. in my dictionary there are nine. i guess at a first step we need to find the balance between 'quality engineering' and 'quantitatve economics'. please, keep on smiling!

Why is it assumed that growth especially as high as%7 will make a dent in poverty. Especially when facing such environmental hardships growth has clearly shown ,in the developed countries, to destroy the very life support systems which reduce such levels of poverty.
This growth and economic system is a very reductionist/inside the box type thinking. And is trying to solve a problem with the same mentality which created it.

Martin Bigger Population control is the necessary bitter pill to swallow. Every country in this world need to look at China's one child policy and emulate it before we all turn into an India.

im not entirely sure where population control came into the discussion. although there are many more effective methods of reducing population without the significantly detrimental effects which chinas 1 child policy has created (male-women ratio of births where the parents will kill their girl since it is expected she will not make as much money, and now leaving a large male population)
high education has shown to give the parents much more to strive for during their middle age times and therefore produce less children, this trend also follows along with automation/ technology as well as with the understanding that the children will be healthy and not die at a young age, so the parents dont have to have more babies and expect half of them to die, like in africa.
but most importantly is just to educate on climate change, overconsumption, and over population.
real change never comes through force but through education

Martin Bigger There is not a single successful example of population control in the third world except China's one child policy.
Universal education may be even more out of reach than population control.
We are looking at an earth with 10 billion people living on it by the end of the 21st century. The world will end before that if what you suggest failed.

SEAN PAN population control is not the solution as it is not the cause of poverty and economic issues in general. the major cause of poverty is the accumulation of wealth by very few individuals through legal and illegal means through multinationals. these multinational corporations and international institutions (IMF, WB, WTO, etc..) on their service put in place rapacious ways of doing business ( savage capitalism) that favors a speedy financial growth of very few people on top and a speedy decline of the rest of mankind. therefore, the solution should focus on dismantling of the prevailing casino-like economic system.

yes exactly! the planet can sustain 9-10 Bn people and is not the problem currently. the economic system is very outdated and even tho we have greatly advanced our science and technology we are still using the same economic and political system of 500+ years ago. and any form of monetary system (capitalism, socialism or communism) will always lead to corrupt behaviour and centralization of power, what we need is a decentralized/ distributed system. and get rid of concepts of ownership and competition since they increase inequality and resource consumption.
we can get the whole worlds population to a better standard of living by applying science and technology to social concern. and thriving without central authorities, what u could call a "natural law resource based economy" NLRBE
