Rust Belt: Thank you so much! I picked up a new starter on Ebay, for about $40 bucks, carefully watched your approach to the install, and DAMN, your way worked PERFECTLY! I saw other ways for the install, by removing the air intake system-parts, and decided to do it your way instead. GLAD I DID! It was much simpler, with less parts removed! Took me about an hour or so, and just knew that back-side starter bolt would be the most difficult part of the job, and I was right!! Engine started right up!! If an 80 year old can do it..ANYONE can, just by being careful not to loose that back bolt! God Bless ya, Rust Belt!! I can't thank you enough!!
heartattackbacon 4 months into making these. They will get better. Or better yet, I could say I just did it for the encouragement to get people to get stuff done. Apparently it worked.
You do not explain nothing plus your butcher breaking bolts. You need to concentrate and explain to people what you are doing I’m not trying to show how fast you are. You defeat the purpose of making this video!
Thanks for the video. You should completely remove the negative terminal before you remove the positive terminal. Otherwise if you hit your wrench on the chassis ground when removing the positive terminal it would go BANG!
4 cylinder Toyota’s are easy and reliable is what he should’ve said... some of the most reliable years right here. Not to say they don’t have quirks because they certainly do but there’s no GM starter lasting 18-19 years Js. Js. Nothing special about them but I’d drive them without hesitation. Currently trying to buy another one.. preferably around this vintage.
Same procedure for a 2nd Gen Avalon. I usually take the air box off, but that isn't strictly necessary. More room though. This is the only video I found showing removal of the cruise control actuator. Thanks!
Thanks for the video. It was a little intimidating but after watching the video I felt like I could do it. It went smooth. I saved some money too. Thank you.
i have a 1999 2.2l trcamry. it has to be the easiest car of all to change the starter. i didn't time it exactly. but from set up to clean up, doing it parked on the street, everything took less than 30 minutes. and...same cannot be said with my 1993 1.8ltr corolla. that was a pain in the ass.
He was standing there watching me do it? Any tech that is worth his weight in scrap is going to do one of these in 15 minutes, and a shop will charge over 300$ on a 100$ starter. I'm just keeping it real. They all watch what I do.
Why? Because he got right to the point and did the job in less than half an hour? Work was done satisfactorily.. bet that thing still humming as good as it ever did ... Ps- cars are fucking machines... not delicate little tulip flowers ..

I need your help. Most of the times my car starts normally, but once in a while, once in about 5 times, the stater is spinning and mashing a slippery noise and it doesn’t engage, And then when I try again, one or two times, it works! I have tried different starters, and they all do the same thing, and then I have ruled out the stater as a problem and I now suspect something else like a relay, the ignition switch or other, causing the starter not receiving enough power maybe once in a while to deploy completely the pignon gear of the bendix to engage the big gear by the flywheel to crank the motor properly. Can that starter slipping and slipping turning noise be caused by not enough power getting it, making it turn but not fast enough to push the pinion gear completely out once in a while and therefore not engaging? But if it was the cause, why would it engage the next time or second next time? I have ran out of explanations, causes, reasons and ways to fix it, please somebody, help me out, thanks so much!
I would start by making sure the power, and ground connections are good. See if the cables, or starter is getting warm, and make sure the flywheel is not broke, or wore out. Good luck.
Hi Rust Belt, my toyota was making a rattling noise and it didn't start, I thought was the starter I watched your video to do it myself, but after changing the starter it keeps doing the same noise and it doesn't work, any advice?
Hi Rusty, thanks for replying, I checked another video they said check the battery also I did and that was the problem I gave it a jump and it's working, but my old starter looked very bad too, so now I know how to change the starter, thank you very much!!
Hi. I'm trying to put the starter bolts back in but I messed up taking one side off by trying to loosen the bolt the wrong way and now I cant get the bolt in easily. I think I stripped something and I dont want to force it. What do you think?
Don't exactly follow what you mean, but you might want to use a thread chaser, or take the starter out, and try to put the bolt in the hole to see what gives.
I’m doing the same thing to my Camry 2000,starter went stupid, turn ignition off car still ran starter burnt up and burned the starter wire,so I’m replacing the starter and wire
@@lindarivas3623 you are going to need to check and see if there is power on the little wire for the starter when cranking. Possible fuse/broken wire, neutral safety switch/not in park, ignition switch, or bad starter. Good luck!

40 minutes and it was out and new in - car running. Thx for the vid
I saved myself money doing it myself lol , thanks for the video man but my recommendation would be to have a better camera angle or multiple.

We're having trouble loosening the bolts and removing the wires. Ours is a 97.
Try to lengthen your ratchet handle with a bar, or a deep well socket and extension. It will give you more leverage. That might help.
Would this be the same on the V6?
V-6 is going to be a little different.
