Are you looking forward to trying out the spin serve? 🤪 We've both been practicing it a lot since filming this video (Greg even did it successfully in some matches at the Irish Open this week!) It's so much fun 😆
Once again a huge thank you to Marvin Seidel and Aaron Chia for helping us with this video - two of the worlds best badminton players, and also great guys!
AFAIR there was also some kind of spin serve and that serve was eventually declared illegal. Can you remind me what kind of serve it was and what was the problem with it?
*_I'm from Malaysia, big fan of Aaron and big fan of you too~!! 🇲🇾_*
OMG!!!! Where's Jenny...She's missing...!!!!!!!!!!
@@Mikhail_Stasov it was the 'Sidek Serve' also known as the 'S Serve'.
To do it you hit the feathers first and yes, that's now illegal.
@@Mikhail_Stasov That was the so called "Sidek service", introduced by the Sidek-brothers from Malaysia. I played them once in the German Open. The held the shuttle upside down and sliced the shuttle with hitting the feathers first. The only return you could do was a lift because you had to wait untill the shuttle came in its normal flight and that was when the shuttle was way below the net. If you didn't the shuttle ended on an other court than yours. The service gave such an advance that the serving couple could score many points in a row and rallys became shorter making doubles less atractive to watch and to play as well. That's why the service was bannedin the early 1982
Good to see Aaron Chia on the channel! Malaysian fans here!🙌🏼
He was great!
@@BadmintonInsight Yeah! You guys are great too! Keep it up!🎉

🏸😄💥👍🏼
Great video! I immediately started hitting shuttles around in my living room.
When I tried it at practice, I somehow managed to do a decent drive serve. No spin, but a new skill for me 😂😂
Glad you enjoyed it ☺️
tysm badminton insight I actually learnt this in 5 minutes thank you... this means a lot because I was practicing this for 4 weeks but dint understand this video made it so much easier .
Amazing to hear! :)

Happy to say I mastered it widdin a few weeks, from a proud srilankan
I see aaron chia. I clicked. Love from Malaysia
Hope you enjoyed the video! 😁
Thanks a lot of the video! Really great to get insight from the world's best spin servers. One suggestion I have (if your targeted audience is beginners) is it'd be great to start the video explaining what the spin serve is (i.e. how it differs to the standard low serve) and why someone would perform a spin serve over the standard low serve. Cheers! =D
Thanks for the feedback 👍🏼 and glad you enjoyed it!
I agree with this comment! As someone who watch badminton for fun and not really playing it, I really don’t know what’s the importance of different serve. It would be helpful if you could explain it at the start of the video😀👍
the serve itself is so satisfying to see. wow!!
Glad you enjoyed it!!
Awesome video! Big fan of Marvin!
Thanks Daniel! So are we 😜
so happy to see aaron chia!
🔥🙌🏼
Been practicing this for a while now hehe. Thank you for another video
🙌🏼🔥😁
Hi guys. Ive posted a comment before on this. I keep playing this video and your no wrong how hard it is. But even how much i try i realy cant get it😢 . So fair play to you for getting it and use it in matches.
Wow, Marvin's English was amazing - better than mine I think 😂 and he was an awesome teacher.. thanks Marvin + Aaron, and Badminton Insight of course! 🏸🏸🏸
Yes he speaks very good English! You're very welcome 🏸
tbh, i never met anyone from Germany who doesn't not speak English. 😅
You’ve come so far, i remember when you only had 3k subscribers
Wow! 😆
2:00 well if it were my serve I'd be so extremely proud. that is perfection.
Sure is!!
Wow, thanks so much for this! Going to learn this. Looks fun to try and master.
🥳 thanks! Enjoy!
This seems like a good new serve to add to my arsenal
definitely will learn this. I will have a match early next month and hopefully know how to spin serve befor then
You can do it, have fun!
Congratulations on 100K !!!!!! 🏸
Thanks 😃
@@BadmintonInsight when is the Wedding
nice treatment of an increasingly important point, especially in men's doubles, where an aggressive service receiver will often take the shuttle at or near the tape. a serve with grease on it makes this much more difficult. practice tip: serves can be practiced at home. i have a setup with a tripod holding a lightweight pole horizontally and lines taped to my living room floor. stuck at home? can practice the low serve
Definitely! Thanks for the comment 😀😀
This video provides so much of insight to the spin serve. Love it!
Congrats on 100K!
Thank you so much 😀
Next video should be what’s in my badminton bag. But great video keep them coming 💯
Thanks for the suggestion!
Thanks for that! I am going to learn how to do the spin serve!
Thanks for this video. Looking forward to practicing it and applying it to grab some points with minimal efforts 😁
Regular viewer from Kerala, India♥️
This is my new go-to serve. Really hard to return. Thank you for the tip!
It's great sharing! Thanks a lot! Looking forward to your interviewing more professional players, maybe from some Asian great players (Malaysia, Indonesia, etc.)
We'll try our best in future tournaments to connect with some of the Asian players! :)
Oh My badminton God!!!! it's fantastic tutorial (video)! see you after100 Hrs of serve trainings XD very exiting content. i'm so glad, Thank you for everything you've done! ( and for this vid also ;) )
Thank you so much Val!
Thank you for this great video again. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Wish you all best of luck for next tournament... -❣️🇲🇾
Thank you!
Aaron! 🤩 🇲🇾 ❤️
😆🥳👊🏼
@@BadmintonInsight keep up the good work guys! 🏸🤍
When was this recorded? Was it during Hylo Open? I didn't see you guys in competing and I was wondering how you were able to include Aaron in this video haha. Good video and very informative nonetheless, and bonus for being able to include Aaron Chia and Marvin Seidel in the video, love from Malaysia
Probably. Jenny competed in the women‘s doubles at HYLO Open and this Center where the video was recorded is in Saarbrücken (the City that hosted HYLO Open)
Correct Jonas, it was at the Hylo Open! We unfortunately didn’t get in because of our ranking at the moment. Thanks Justin 😀
U have the best teaching vidz
Thanks 😀
The masterclasses Greg took really paid off 😹👍🏼
Certainly did! 😃
1:36 😶😯 he catched the shuttle
Marvin Seidel:
“100 hours learning it”
Greg in just one session:
“I’ve learned it!” 😂
Thank you very much I will try today
Have fun! 😁
BEST VIDEO EVAAA!! 🔥🔥🔥😊👍

Thank you so much for this badminton guide ❣💯🥰
Oh in Germany , That is Realy Nice, Maevin seidl is a Great Badminton Player
Gruß aus Germany
Yes he is! 😀
Great video. Crispy & useful information
Thank you so much 😊
Just saw Aaron Chia win BWF World Championships 2022 men's doubles with his partner. Reimnded me of this vid, so I came back
Yes he did! He did some good spin serves in the final too 😀🤩
@@BadmintonInsight Yea I saw! I was like "Damn. If he's using it in the world finals, definitely seems like it has its place"
I think I know the answer. But were most of Aaron's serves the standard low serve? Or were most of his serves actually spin serves?
Love from malaysia🇲🇾🇲🇾
Thanks 😀😀
Thanks for sharing. I will try to apply this in my next badminton session. I do doubles normally. Why is it more difficult in doubles? For serving the distance to the net should be the same?
You’re welcome, that’s great to hear! It’s more difficult in mixed doubles
Simply superb
I’ve noticed I’m having trouble getting the serve long enough without losing the spin. It seems, atleast here in this clip, that Greg was having the same problem. Would have been nice to mention in a kind of ”common mistakes” section (although that may be hard as there’s nothing really common about the serve😝). Anyways, congrats on the 100k subscribers! Definitely well deserved, great vids already and still improving every week!😄🤩
Thanks for the feedback! This is at the point Marvin said to Greg at the end - to have a longer contact on the strings and not be so fast! It’s definitely tough though 😅 thanks anyway!:)
5 star video! Can this serve be effective in single and if so are anyone of best players using spin serve?
Thanks 😀 Less effective in singles for sure because players are not standing as close to the service line and taking the shuttle as early!
Love this video, thanks ❤️
Glad you enjoyed it!! ☺️🔥
That was a cool videos! Thank you guys
Amazing video!
Thanks 😀 Glad you enjoyed it!
Sidek Serve is urban legend here in Malaysia
Yes it was very good! Unfortunately illegal now 😢
I knew this serve in 2018 when I watch The Minions
Kevin are expert with tumbling serve
He is indeed 🔥
Can you guys do a video of what to do after you serve? Like stance, coverage etc :)
We'll add it to the list! Thanks 😃
very nice tutorial...
Please make video on Deception which can be use in doubles?
Thanks!! We already have 1 video on this but will do more in the future so stay tuned 😀
in malaysi this is s serve from legends misbun sidek🔥🇲🇾🇲🇾
That is where you hit the feathers first! This is now illegal!
Thank you so much 😁😁
🥳🙌🏼😆
Amazing 🤯🔥🔥🔥
Thanks 🙏🏼
Thank you sir
+1 like for Marvin Seidel
🙌🏼☺️
Awesome ❣️❣️
🙌🏼👊🏼🔥
ur guys are awesome !!!!!!
Ah thank you so much!
good job I appreciate you
Thank you so much
Being an average TT player i am trying this with shuttle from last 5 years on winters 😜 but no luck yet. Its quite a tricky things to do
Haha, very tricky yes! Good luck and enjoy 😜
Greet vid! Can you also make one about the “Japanese” serve? How Momota and Wanabe serve.
You think this is very different to a ‘normal’ serve?
@@BadmintonInsight maybe not the serve itself, but the preparation. The start with the racket before the shuttle, the position of the body and feet, etc.
1:35 that smooooth catch tho
Can we use this technique with Nylon Shuttle too? Does this shuttle spin like the feature does?
Perhaps even more!!
If someone had a choice between normal low serve and spin serve (both go over net at same height and land in the same area), should they always spin serve?
Or are there reasons to choose to low serve normally instead of spin serve?
Spin serve kevin sanjaya is legend
Thanks a lot!!!
Hope you enjoyed it!
Very interesting idea… but to be technical about it, can I execute it below the waist since we know in tournaments we were taught to serve it at least belle the waist? 🙂
Yes! Just keep experimenting - you might find it works best when it's quite far below your waist, keep trying it! :)
Hiii, I am Jessica from India.
Can you please make a video on ' Tips for young badminton players'??
By the way, The video was really useful..... THANKS 😊😊😊😊🙏🙏🙏
We’ll add it to the list! Keep watching our videos though 😀 thanks for the comment!!

Just starting the sport but I heard at least in here you need to start your serve below waist. I think some of these serves in this video were a lot higher? Would that technique still work if I need to lower it?
WoW. .. . . Superb
Thank you so much!
@@BadmintonInsight But Really Missed Jeni 😆
wow thats amazing
Did you ask Marvin what tension/string he uses? Furthermore, have you any further advice to offer on the subject one year later? It really is addictive, that's for sure!
Big fan
Thanks 😀
Great tutorial! Love your videos!
Thank you so much, that's great to hear 😀
Hi. Hope you both ok?. Been looking at this video for while and been trying it. But finding it realy hard ...😢. The video is realy good and good advice but i just finding it hard to get the cut and slice. It puts me in a spin rather than the shuttle.
