Jimmie said “try me and ima pull out the stick” 1930 and then yodeled about it hahahahha
This is actually the first hip hop song.
🤣
Or was that Blue Yodel No. 1?
Hillbilly preaching
Lyrically maybe
percursor to gangsta rap sang by a tubercular frail ex railroad hand.
Why are people obsessed about making arbitrary comparisons between old and modern music. Outlaw heroes have existed in cultures the world over since time immemorial. The link to gangsta rap is tenous at best.
Check out "Pistol Packin" by Gangstagrass. This song was their inspiration, and they sampled it.
This is my favorite artist of all time. No one my age understands this type of music or my reasoning for listening to it but I really enjoy old time country, especially when it's the singing brakeman.
Same dude. I was a hobo for some years so this music is nice and simple, with original ideas.. what a story man
@@mrbreeze9116 why only for some years?
Are you still young?
@@SVK2016 I'm 24 years old and I didn't want to live like that anymore so I started studying STEM in college and taking care of my grandparents. Also firefighting. Being a hobo is an awesome adventure, but doesn't provide life with the meaning I wantef
This song would be great in Fallout New Vegas.
Gangster music has been around for centuries “Jimmie Rodgers” “Johnny cash”
Centuries
Ah, good old fashioned double entendre.
Holy crap!
Oh layyyyyyyyyyyy oh layyyyyyyyyy oooooo leyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyg
I wonder what Jimmie would think about gun control....oh wait no I don't.
Talking about six shooter....
Real music
I have a new favorite song and artist. Jimmie Rodgers was a genius.
Done in Hollywood,CA July 1.1930 just Rodgers vocal and guitar. A couple of weeks later on July 16 in the same place, he would record Blue Yodel No. 9 with Louis Armstrong,t; Lil Hardin Armstrong,p. Johnny Cash would re-enact that moment on his tv show.
Damn, a player.....
Obviously culture is a neutral lol. most of this man's music sounds like an antique version of gangster rap. I love it. My dad introduced this to me when I was 8 years old. That was about 40 years ago
“Can’t take from me my silver mounted gat “
Jimmy had ties to my Great Grandma. From Chicora Mississippi. I am73 years old now.Been listening to him since 1965.Know most by heart !
hood classic
This is a good example of Hokum Blues.
Thanks I love Jimmie Rodgers
Jimmie Rodgers was the first of the masters and after Hank Williams the greatest of them all.
Jimmie Rodgers var den første mester og næstefer Hank Williams den største af dem alle
+Tim Oconnor
I love Hank Williams! He is the greatest of the "Real " country artists. But I have to say that Jimmie Rodgers invented early country music; he was the one that scratched out old tunes on a guitar with no accompaniment. With no Jimmie Rodgers, there would be no Hank Williams. Just sayin"!
Jimmie Rodgers was genius, but his GENRE IS NOT COUNTRY!
This is the blues.
Country blues. It's a legit genre.
@@bailey0872 The Carter Family as well who apparently cut their first songs just a little bit before Jimmie Rodgers. Pretty cool stuff!
When u relize the real meaning
Was this about sexual things, or am I wrong?:)
?
@@AvitalShtap Yes, in them days they had to disguise the real meaning or be censored .
This song's lyrics would have a difficult time being broadcast on radio even 40 yrs later. And it has little to do with firearms!
The song has multiple meanings depending on who's listening. The meaning is entirely subjective to the listener's experience. Unless you have corroborating evidence that that was Rodgers' intention, what you're implying can't be defined as the "real" meaning.
I listen to this while playing as Arthur in Red Dead 2
Pistol Packin' Papa vs Pistol Packin' Mama
The father of country and hip hop music
The first Drill song
Love this song.
Classic
God bless America.
