    Satyajit Ray's 1984 film "Ghare Baire" (The Home and the World) is an adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore's 1916 novel of the same name.
    The film was primarily shot on location in Bansberia (Hooghly), Kolkata & nearby villages.

    Satyajit Ray was deeply influenced by Tagore's novel and had wanted to adapt it for many years.
    The film's script was written by Satyajit Ray himself, in collaboration with his wife, Bijoya Ray.
    "Ghare Baire" was India's official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 58th Academy Awards.
    While shooting the film Ray had suffered two massive heart attacks & his son Sandip completed the project from his detailed instructions.
    Ill health kept Satyajit Ray away from active film making for about four years. In 1989 he resumed film making with Ganashatru (adaptatipn of Ibsen's Enemy Of The People).
