If USA could force China to agree sales of TikTok , US could force sales of other assets of China companines operating in USA . It is impossible for China to agree. Will USA agree to sales of Tesla China factory to China?
As of today, TikTok is considered one of the largest social media platforms with over 1 billion monthly active users globally, and 170 million users are in USA. So yes, TikTok would rather shutdown its US operations since US is only a small part of its user base.
Why's China's gdp growth skeptical? It has 10.1% growth in export for Q4, that translates to 2.5% gdp growth contribution alone. Based on that the 5.4% overall growth for Q4 and 5.0% for 2024 seem plausible. Weather it's sustainable is a different matter as so much uncertainty coming in the new year.
China's physical indicators like electricity consumption, port TEU throughput, inland logistics data, customs data, aggregate foreign port CIF data ... all support China's economic growth. Be as skeptical as you want but it makes no difference.
Anyone who is skeptical about the latest China gdp data please be advised that China has a record trade surplus of 1 trillion in 2024, and international trade is 25% of China's GDP. What's more impressive and alarming the West is the record surplus being built on the much upgraded product categories and value chains, eclipsing the incumbents' long held advantages.
To use Tik Tok ban as a leverage to get more favourable terms with China in trade speaks about the current state of the US. What was the main reason Tik-tok was banned? Clearly, the Tik-tok ban does not pertain to national security. Suggesting such topics on this platform can only damage the reputation of journalists. How can you demonstrate your sincerity to your audience especially the American citizen? Do they still have their rights?
Refusing to sell TikTok and allowing it to go dark, gives rise to tremendous disruption and consequent unhappiness for the US userbase. From China's point of view, anything that weakens US internal cohesion must be beneficial for China in this superpower contest. Furthermore, this is a self inflicted wound, like so many other of Biden's harebrained decisions. Why would China not take the rational decision to disallow TikTok sale?
Bytedance would never sell tiktok, a product that operating in all countries with us is only 1 of the global markets. They wouldnt sell tiktok even in a fair business condition, let alone a forcing, suppressing, oppressing, bullying kind of thing.
China should force the sale or closure of all Tesla car & battery factories in China, which are by far Tesla's biggest product suppler to the world. Tesla would fail in no time; its stock worth literally zero in just days.
China is offering a 10 days visa free tourist to travel to China…TIKTOK REFUGEES take this opportunity to visit China & see with your own eyes how modern beautiful progressive, safe peaceful China is today…& know how the CCP take cares of their citizens healthcare etc.etc.
China has Douyin which is the original version of TikTok, yet Chinese kids are way smarter than the rest of the world. So don't blame TikTok for the failure of US education system.
Sell 80% stocks shares to 170 millions TikTok subscribers with some amount of voting rights at U$1000/share. Common prosperity, Benefits to those subscribers. Don't sell to those rich oligarchy.❤❤❤❤
If China sells TikTok, Americans should sell Apple. I think its a good deal.
Maybe bad idea. Better shutdown everything.
They probably don’t want Apple: their company xiaomi made an EV car in 3 years that Apple couldn’t in 10 years.
no, apple sucks, we want nvidia, hand it over, we'll give you tiktok
People are laughing at Bloomberg

China has the abilty to seize and end the foundation of the entire US computer & software industry.

India ban tik tok years ago. Thus that worries xi. There's a big world out there.
the hostess said chinese numebrs are skeptical, meanwhile usa revises its number like crazy, from 1million to minus 1 million. lol
Possible reality: TikTok moves the USA server, inside the Great FireWall of China . . . . . .
Have fun controlling that.
I thought Tik Tok ceo is from singapore
America's racism is alive and well
china won't sell the algorithm. But the name can be sold, at a reasonable price.

No, China will not agree unless you offer up Taiwan.
No. Taiwan is never negotiable. I don't think Chinese will use it a bargaining chip
