Wow, that's crazy. I was thinking that a metal kettle on a stove was very old fashioned, even for the 70s. Most people had electric kettles in the UK in the 70s, it's more of an image that I would associate with the 1950s.

It’s similar to how “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow” in the US uses the lyric “...which nobody can deny” but in the UK it’s “...and so say all of us”
