I can definitely see why people would enjoy s7-8, it just personally isn’t my own cup of tea
Sidenote but I think Allura and Lance would have worked better if the show had given Lance moments to finally build up some self esteem and have his main character moment like the rest of the cast. So much of S5 and S6 was just him comparing himself to Lotor and not being comforted by the rest of the cast over this.

What rubs me off the wrong way is how Lance seemed to feel like both a rebound, and then get super jealous over Lotor/Allura and the writers seemed to never actually make Lance talk about his feelings when he should’ve even. The “Lance is jealous” gags were really annoying to watch, it felt just… no good.
yeah the biggest issue with that couple was that lance hardly made any meaningful moves, yes he'd flirt with her non-stop but he did that anyone barely female presenting (in which case i cant blame allura for not taking his advances seriously), then she gets with lotor after a season of growing closer to him and 5 minutes later is revealed to her he had ulterior motives and one season later now she is with lance. Yes, it is implied time passed between defeating the galra on earth and leaving in the atlas but we dont see any of it so to us it just feels like allura broke up with lotor last month and now suddenly had feelings for lance, it really just feels like is a rebound

Fun fact: the reason Keith had to leave the show was because his actor was too busy with The Walking Dead to record so i wouldn't be shocked if that changed A LOT about seasons 4-6 and what they wanted to do with Keith. Also changing Alura to Keith in that scene makes 10x more sense! I wish we got that scene!

Klance reminds me a little of Lumity, due to the enemies-lovers dynamic, but I think they would have been canon if the writers had already had a prefixed or that the quality didn't decline. I'm not saying this to minimize the work of the crew, it's just my thought.
You make a great point about them not being in a place to be together, I feel like if they stayed in the lion swap arc where Keith and Lance were leader and right hand man for more time than half a season, that would’ve helped their personal developments where Lance builds confidence in himself and his abilities and Keith grows out of his lone wolf archetype to lead the team Would love more ship analysis videos from you!
Klance will forever be my OTP but they had no place in canon with how things went down. Despite that, I still get giddy watching the earlier seasons and the dynamic they had going on, much like the show itself, they had So. Much. Potential. (But hey, that's what fics are for, right?) Both Klance and the show had so much potential only for said potential to be wasted 😔 Voltron’s fan base will obviously dwindle away again since the small resurgence was purely because of it leaving today, but I’ve seen fandoms still thrive even when there’s no official way to watch it! Hannibal has had a consistently big fan base for a while and it both ended over a decade ago and (I’m pretty sure) it wasn’t on any streaming platforms for a hot minute! So there’s still a chance the fandom will still be active!! (Also AAAA Ty Ty!!)
Personally since the show was so rushed it really didn’t give the two characters time for character development with one another and it’s really a shame cuz I think it would be a good ship if it only had time just overall. But I 100% agree with almost everything u said
Yeah I definitely think Klance could’ve been GREAT canon if they had just shown it briefly post ending. Like imagine Keith still has his ending of helping people with the BoM but then just Lance having some sort of side role with helping that and then them eventually connecting and getting together through their shared love for helping people in that way and like- well obvious trauma bonding. It would’ve given Lance more time to open up ab his insecurities and Keith more chance to put down his barriers in a way that could be explored more by fans since obv the writers weren’t going to do it themselves. And also give Lance some kind of purpose after Voltron being torn apart besides being a farmer for the rest of his life that talks ab his dead ex gf that he dated for like a month 😭. Like cmon. Also thinking ab a comment from the Lance video ab how Lance should’ve done more with his life especially related to bringing families together. The closest person to having a goal like that in the ending was Keith and how he turned BoM into a humanitarian relief thing. Just imagine Keith bringing food and water and other necessary items and then Lance working together with him as well as doing his own thing of bringing together families since he knows what it’s like to be apart from his own.

lance and keith complement eachother really well. Lance has a lot of trust on others (which often plays against him) while having little trust on himself despite being very capable, while keith has full trust on his own skills but doesnt put much trust in those around him no matter how much they show they love him due to his abandonment issues (seriously poor guy, mom had to leave when he was a baby, dad died when he was a kid, brother figure/mentor has a disease that likely means he'll die young, had to leave the planet for a mission and then was thought dead for a year, im surprised he doesnt think his own lion is going to abandon him at some point). Keith is hotheaded and quick to action while Lance is more chill and wait for the right moment (apropiate for their characters being a swordsman and a sharpshooter respectively). They can be at eachother's throats but also push eachother for the better They could have worked really well if the writers had used those opposite traits to overcome eachother's character flaws with lance helping keith open up to others while keith helps lance see his own strenghts and worth. Alas, we didnt get that in this reality

I really wish the show had addressed how they’re basically exact opposites from one another and delved deeper into how they could use their differences to help each other grow (Also, slightly off topic but I would’ve loved to see Keith’s bond with Red explored a bit more since you’re right he probably *does* have abandonment issues. I just think it’s fun that he just so happened to bond with Red who (to me at least) seems like the most loyal of the five lions 😭)
So random but I wanna point out the game show episode that somehow correlated to fates of Voltron: Both Keith and Lance picked one another as the person to leave. I thought that was a bit of a choice tbh, but yeah.
Idk if I speak for everyone here, but when I say Klance should've been canon, I mean that it should've replaced some of the other events that did happen, not necessarily be an add-on to what already happens. Obviously if Keith really leaves for that long, I don't think he and Lance should get together. If I were running it and had free-reign, I would've made Lance and Keith work each other through their insecurities together as friends and then grow from there, maybe have Lance realize his feelings when Keith's away on a mission and gets hurt, and maybe Keith's mom helps Keith realize HIS feelings for Lance. In this case I would've kept Keith as an intermittent agent between both Voltron and the Blade and have Shiro be like 'recovering' from his revival where he can sometimes pilot black but only as a backup if Keith's away on a Blade mission for whatever reason. That way Klance gets more scenes together, and I would have Keith help Lance with his inferiority complex and Lance could help Keith through being half Galra as they kind of both have an outside perspective on each respective issue and can cheer each other up in a way the others can't. Plus, we can see the rivalry turn more friendly here and have them maybe get more intimate and closer. All of this could lead up to when Keith and his mom get stuck on the planet, Lance goes to Allura as a friend that he admires now that he's over his little crush (my FAV headcanon is that Allura and Lance are girlboss besties and that she, Pidge, Hunk, and Coran help him either realize or own his sexuality depending on when you think he comes out) and she helps him get to the conclusion that he feels for Keith. This gets mirrored with maybe some blade members razzing Keith for missing Voltron and talking about Lance a bit too much which comes to a head when he's trapped with his mom and ultimately coming to the same conclusion Lance does. Then they have an ACTUAL reunion instead of the BS we got and they confess to each other later when it's just the two of them. Then they're canon for the rest of the seasons, and honestly just have whatever you wanted seasons 7&8 to be inserted here since IMO seasons 7 and 8 are a different show kinda. But that is how I personally would've made Klance canon.
OHHH THIS REWRITE CONCEPT IS SO GOOD OMG I love Keith jumping back and forth between Voltron and the Blade rather than sticking to one of them like he did in canon. Also!! I’m so glad somebody else thinks S7 and S8 feel like a different show entirely, I thought I was the only one who felt that way 😭

I'M HERE- I must say that I really fell in love with that series the moment I saw it, I mean- I love sci-fi and fantasy and together it was like BOOM for me. It was getting better and better, but I digress, SO I really have to thank you for putting all the fragments where both of them interact (because it is really necessary-), and well, besides remembering those moments it also gave me a very clear vision of how their relationship grew throughout all the problems they faced, and that only makes me think that something was planned between the two of them, you know, when the show only focused on those two they could have done so with the development of other characters. It may not have been love, but rather that they were given the opportunity to get to know each other better and realize that there was really no reason to compete in the beginning. Lance is insecure about himself and compares himself to Keith, but Keith doesn't really hate him until Lance messes with him, and then they both support each other! I think while they are in the emotional stage they are in it is okay to just make them friends, it really works well!, but as the series progresses, they still have that trust and concern for each other, even though they were separated for a long time. When Keith comes back to the team, he's still there for Lance and makes him feel better, like Lance did for him before, it makes me think this is the key to them developing something more. I also agree that they both can absolutely be something more after the end of the series, after they have matured and maybe talked about how they felt. I just miss them, it was actually really fun to see them together (Speaking very far from how the ending was carried out and how they handled Lance and Allura's relationship). I really liked this! Do more with any other series or even movies! (Also, I'm not very good at English and I translated most of it, so apologies if it's not completely understandable)

As someone who watched voltron and wasn't into fandom at the time, and is now into fandom all i can say is this; fandom can color your experience of a show. I think a lot of the time fandom says something and we as individuals are like "that sounds cool" and go along with it. And i see it especially with shipping culture. I couldn't see that ship dynamic in canon and when i did learn about klance it was a very "oh, didn't know people liked that". Do i think fanon works of them are amazing, yes of course these boys have so much fanfic and fanart about them and i eat it up every time. Idk. I tend to like really out there ships and rarepairs but thats just me. Anything is better than canon allurance though, including the fanon ship of them pre s7.
@@miakwat yeah! and there is no problem with viewing them through that lense, but i feel like it just cuts you off from so many other dynamics including platonic ones. Its also this larger issue of fandom of being super invested in the ships that all of the other pieces of the show, including character writing, kinda fall into the background. I really loved the world-building in voltron, however most fan content was either in the castle or on earth/earth adjacent planet. A lot of the times m/m ships are put into tropes that don’t fit them in fics.And it affected how the fandom viewed this dynamic through this ultra fan lense. I could talk for hours about this in so many different areas
I do think it’s funny how out the gate klance and shillura (gosh was that even the ship name? It’s been so long) were super popular and the show runners said you may have one (1) gay character and it’s the one so many people were ok putting in a m/f ship. The immediate bury your gays and nameless epilogue husband was just bonus points. Lol, lmao even.

i honestly really love klance, and it’s my favorite ship in the show, but i feel like some fans took it too far, like the fan who tried to blackmail the creators into making it canon. i do think Allurance would’ve been really good if they had done it differently, rather then crowding it in at the end. Also, i think Klance is possibly parallels to Adashi? i always kind of thought that, because Keith and Shiro both seem Korean or some nationality similar to that, and Lance and Adam both seem hispanic. Also, Shiro and Keith are brothers, and that also adds to my theory. not sure if i’m just digging too deep, though. just my opinion, but i also think Klance was originally canon. there were many rumors it was (not sure if they were approved or not) but they had many moments in the first few seasons (like the bonding moment) that hinted at their relationship sorry for yapping so much, just writing down my theories lol

I do think that Klance is a cute ship with good chemistry. But they should not have gotten together during the show. For the reasons you highlighted, and my personal opinion that Keith wouldn't realize if Lance was flirting with him.

I have some thoughts on this. #1 I wouldn't have MINDED if Keith x Lance had been cannon but I don't think it would have worked narratively well....and that's also due to the fact I think VLD has some issues regarding it's overall story, individual character stories and pacing. I don't think that Keith's story would have benefited from a romance with Lance and I don't think it would have helped lance's story. #2 If Keith HAD to have a romance with someone I think it should have been Allura. They were teased to hell and back in almost every Voltron entry and never got any kind of 'resolution' to their relationship (except maybe in a follow up comic to the Voltron Force cartoon series I guess). I think it would have been a nice nod to the previous series, and I think it would have worked BETTER then them romancing anyone else. Mostly due to the theming of the conflict between Allura/ her people, and Keith/ Galra. Though admittedly I am still not sure if Keith Romancing anyone would have really benefitted his story. 3. I felt like the only reason Lance was given his romance with Allura was............to give him something to do. Shiro had almost dying/being a clone/whatever, Keith had finding his mom, Pidge had finding her brother, Hunk.........was hunk but had his own little adventure, it seems like Lance didn't really have ANYTHING except for falling in love with Allura, which I don't think really helped her story as honestly it kind of came off as Allura kind of rebounding off Lance after being betrayed by Lotor which didn't sit right.

On top of what I said previously neither Lance or Keith’s stories really had a resolution that *needed* them to enter a relationship, including one with each other. 2. *Oh wait were Keith and Allura never canon in the previous iterations of the show??* I had always thought they were endgame in at least the original, but maybe that was just me purely going off of fan gossip rather than me actually watching the show 😭 3. Yeah the Allurance in the last bit of the show definitely felt out of place and not what either Lance or Allura needed. Totally agree with thinking that they did it to give Lance something to do since that’s basically all his character is reduced to in the final season 🏃♂️

I’ve always loved Klance, and I feel like their interactions were very... gay coded. I mean, that sunset scene in season 8? More romantic than Lance’s and Allura’s whole relationship. Also wanted to add that while they were on their date, Lance went on a minor ramble about how Veronica shouldn’t date Keith, and... that’s a little gay, Lance. Anyway, I think Klance would have been great if the writers actually cared enough to give us real representation, and honestly? I’d rather have cannon Klance than cannon gay Shiro. just my opinion, though, no hard feelings towards any shippers out there.
I never was a Klance shipper, and after enduring season 8, I want it to be cannon to at least compensate for my time wasted. I also call any ship that is queer-bating, Klancing.

Like imagine Keith still has his ending of helping people with the BoM but then just Lance having some sort of side role with helping that and then them eventually connecting and getting together through their shared love for helping people in that way and like- well obvious trauma bonding. It would’ve given Lance more time to open up ab his insecurities and Keith more chance to put down his barriers in a way that could be explored more by fans since obv the writers weren’t going to do it themselves. And also give Lance some kind of purpose after Voltron being torn apart besides being a farmer for the rest of his life that talks ab his dead ex gf that he dated for like a month 😭. Like cmon. Also thinking ab a comment from the Lance video ab how Lance should’ve done more with his life especially related to bringing families together. The closest person to having a goal like that in the ending was Keith and how he turned BoM into a humanitarian relief thing. Just imagine Keith bringing food and water and other necessary items and then Lance working together with him as well as doing his own thing of bringing together families since he knows what it’s like to be apart from his own.

lance and keith complement eachother really well. Lance has a lot of trust on others (which often plays against him) while having little trust on himself despite being very capable, while keith has full trust on his own skills but doesnt put much trust in those around him no matter how much they show they love him due to his abandonment issues (seriously poor guy, mom had to leave when he was a baby, dad died when he was a kid, brother figure/mentor has a disease that likely means he'll die young, had to leave the planet for a mission and then was thought dead for a year, im surprised he doesnt think his own lion is going to abandon him at some point). Keith is hotheaded and quick to action while Lance is more chill and wait for the right moment (apropiate for their characters being a swordsman and a sharpshooter respectively). They can be at eachother's throats but also push eachother for the better
They could have worked really well if the writers had used those opposite traits to overcome eachother's character flaws with lance helping keith open up to others while keith helps lance see his own strenghts and worth. Alas, we didnt get that in this reality

So random but I wanna point out the game show episode that somehow correlated to fates of Voltron: Both Keith and Lance picked one another as the person to leave. I thought that was a bit of a choice tbh, but yeah.

Idk if I speak for everyone here, but when I say Klance should've been canon, I mean that it should've replaced some of the other events that did happen, not necessarily be an add-on to what already happens. Obviously if Keith really leaves for that long, I don't think he and Lance should get together. If I were running it and had free-reign, I would've made Lance and Keith work each other through their insecurities together as friends and then grow from there, maybe have Lance realize his feelings when Keith's away on a mission and gets hurt, and maybe Keith's mom helps Keith realize HIS feelings for Lance. In this case I would've kept Keith as an intermittent agent between both Voltron and the Blade and have Shiro be like 'recovering' from his revival where he can sometimes pilot black but only as a backup if Keith's away on a Blade mission for whatever reason. That way Klance gets more scenes together, and I would have Keith help Lance with his inferiority complex and Lance could help Keith through being half Galra as they kind of both have an outside perspective on each respective issue and can cheer each other up in a way the others can't. Plus, we can see the rivalry turn more friendly here and have them maybe get more intimate and closer. All of this could lead up to when Keith and his mom get stuck on the planet, Lance goes to Allura as a friend that he admires now that he's over his little crush (my FAV headcanon is that Allura and Lance are girlboss besties and that she, Pidge, Hunk, and Coran help him either realize or own his sexuality depending on when you think he comes out) and she helps him get to the conclusion that he feels for Keith. This gets mirrored with maybe some blade members razzing Keith for missing Voltron and talking about Lance a bit too much which comes to a head when he's trapped with his mom and ultimately coming to the same conclusion Lance does. Then they have an ACTUAL reunion instead of the BS we got and they confess to each other later when it's just the two of them.
Then they're canon for the rest of the seasons, and honestly just have whatever you wanted seasons 7&8 to be inserted here since IMO seasons 7 and 8 are a different show kinda. But that is how I personally would've made Klance canon.
OHHH THIS REWRITE CONCEPT IS SO GOOD OMG I love Keith jumping back and forth between Voltron and the Blade rather than sticking to one of them like he did in canon.

I must say that I really fell in love with that series the moment I saw it, I mean- I love sci-fi and fantasy and together it was like BOOM for me. It was getting better and better, but I digress, SO I really have to thank you for putting all the fragments where both of them interact (because it is really necessary-), and well, besides remembering those moments it also gave me a very clear vision of how their relationship grew throughout all the problems they faced, and that only makes me think that something was planned between the two of them, you know, when the show only focused on those two they could have done so with the development of other characters. It may not have been love, but rather that they were given the opportunity to get to know each other better and realize that there was really no reason to compete in the beginning. Lance is insecure about himself and compares himself to Keith, but Keith doesn't really hate him until Lance messes with him, and then they both support each other!
I think while they are in the emotional stage they are in it is okay to just make them friends, it really works well!, but as the series progresses, they still have that trust and concern for each other, even though they were separated for a long time. When Keith comes back to the team, he's still there for Lance and makes him feel better, like Lance did for him before, it makes me think this is the key to them developing something more. I also agree that they both can absolutely be something more after the end of the series, after they have matured and maybe talked about how they felt.
I just miss them, it was actually really fun to see them together
(Speaking very far from how the ending was carried out and how they handled Lance and Allura's relationship).

As someone who watched voltron and wasn't into fandom at the time, and is now into fandom all i can say is this; fandom can color your experience of a show. I think a lot of the time fandom says something and we as individuals are like "that sounds cool" and go along with it. And i see it especially with shipping culture. I couldn't see that ship dynamic in canon and when i did learn about klance it was a very "oh, didn't know people liked that". Do i think fanon works of them are amazing, yes of course these boys have so much fanfic and fanart about them and i eat it up every time. Idk. I tend to like really out there ships and rarepairs but thats just me. Anything is better than canon allurance though, including the fanon ship of them pre s7.
On absolutely, I think Klance is *definitely* a victim of fanon meddling with our views of canon (especially with their interactions in S6-8) 🏃♂️
@@miakwat yeah! and there is no problem with viewing them through that lense, but i feel like it just cuts you off from so many other dynamics including platonic ones. Its also this larger issue of fandom of being super invested in the ships that all of the other pieces of the show, including character writing, kinda fall into the background. I really loved the world-building in voltron, however most fan content was either in the castle or on earth/earth adjacent planet. A lot of the times m/m ships are put into tropes that don’t fit them in fics.And it affected how the fandom viewed this dynamic through this ultra fan lense. I could talk for hours about this in so many different areas
I do think it’s funny how out the gate klance and shillura (gosh was that even the ship name? It’s been so long) were super popular and the show runners said you may have one (1) gay character and it’s the one so many people were ok putting in a m/f ship.

i honestly really love klance, and it’s my favorite ship in the show, but i feel like some fans took it too far, like the fan who tried to blackmail the creators into making it canon. i do think Allurance would’ve been really good if they had done it differently, rather then crowding it in at the end.
Also, i think Klance is possibly parallels to Adashi? i always kind of thought that, because Keith and Shiro both seem Korean or some nationality similar to that, and Lance and Adam both seem hispanic. Also, Shiro and Keith are brothers, and that also adds to my theory. not sure if i’m just digging too deep, though.

Also!! I’ve seen people compare adashi to klance but I think it was more towards their dynamic. Shiro prioritized the Kerberos mission and left Adam alone which is similar to Keith prioritizing the Blade of Marmora and leaving the team (but specifically Lance). (Also - while there aren’t any specifics for Keith - Shiro is canonical Japanese!)

I have some thoughts on this.
#1 I wouldn't have MINDED if Keith x Lance had been cannon but I don't think it would have worked narratively well....and that's also due to the fact I think VLD has some issues regarding it's overall story, individual character stories and pacing. I don't think that Keith's story would have benefited from a romance with Lance and I don't think it would have helped lance's story.
#2 If Keith HAD to have a romance with someone I think it should have been Allura. They were teased to hell and back in almost every Voltron entry and never got any kind of 'resolution' to their relationship (except maybe in a follow up comic to the Voltron Force cartoon series I guess). I think it would have been a nice nod to the previous series, and I think it would have worked BETTER then them romancing anyone else. Mostly due to the theming of the conflict between Allura/ her people, and Keith/ Galra. Though admittedly I am still not sure if Keith Romancing anyone would have really benefitted his story.
3. I felt like the only reason Lance was given his romance with Allura was............to give him something to do. Shiro had almost dying/being a clone/whatever, Keith had finding his mom, Pidge had finding her brother, Hunk.........was hunk but had his own little adventure, it seems like Lance didn't really have ANYTHING except for falling in love with Allura, which I don't think really helped her story as honestly it kind of came off as Allura kind of rebounding off Lance after being betrayed by Lotor which didn't sit right.
1. No yeah absolutely!! On top of what I said previously neither Lance or Keith’s stories really had a resolution that *needed* them to enter a relationship, including one with each other.
2. *Oh wait were Keith and Allura never canon in the previous iterations of the show??* I had always thought they were endgame in at least the original, but maybe that was just me purely going off of fan gossip rather than me actually watching the show 😭
3. Yeah the Allurance in the last bit of the show definitely felt out of place and not what either Lance or Allura needed. Totally agree with thinking that they did it to give Lance something to do since that’s basically all his character is reduced to in the final season 🏃♂️
Something I wanna say about Klance: I don’t hate it but, it wouldn’t have been able to be canon during the series itself, at least due to so many plot points tbh. I could see them getting together post ending of s8, but that would’ve happened if they got written to have that relationship ending anyways 🥲

Anyway, I think Klance would have been great if the writers actually cared enough to give us real representation, and honestly?
