Very cool vid, man. LOVE that you included the casts that didn't catch a fish as well. So many of the vids on UA-cam only show 'catching casts' , which is highly misleading. Instant fan.
Been saying this for years, on a nice productive day i caught leerie on every lure in my box out the same shoal, surface bucktail paddletail in different colors and styles. On another day caught 4 species on the same orange over white 3/8ounch bucktail , leerie kob gurnard and skipjack. If the fish are there they will bite! Finding the fish is the art of fishing
I much prefer a baitcaster, the way it feels in your hands, the casting is fun to master etc. They are just a bit pricey so I only get to fish with my friend's set up✌😅😂
Lekker video, awesome way to catch kob on lures. How do u know when to strike the kob or what does the bite feel like with lures? Keep up the great work!
Definitely William you will know when you get that bite...sometimes the bite can be subtle, but the best way to describe it is you will feel a tap...similar to a fish taking a bite on bait. Usually harder, but just a small tap is all u can get. That is when you need to strike and set the hook well, else most fish will just spit a soft plastic bait. Keeping contact with the lure at all times helps feel the bite and ensures no slack upon hook set. Practice makes perfect. Bass fishing can be a great way to hone your jigging skills as you will often get more bites in a day bass fishing than on the salt.
Dale Stephenson I have been using Shimano Curado baitcasters for a few years now. I have a 200hg as well as a 70xg. I also enjoy the abu black max as a budget reel if you just starting. Expect more maintenance than a spinning reel though. Knowing how to service a baitcaster will become imported...constant maintenance needs to be done to the worm gears, as well as the bearings when fishing salt water. Bits of grease well placed, can see bearings etc lasting more than a year, but expect to upgrade bearings almost every year. I have my baitcasters rig on a variety of rods. I like a soft action rod for topwater lures, so I have my abu black max paired on a 7’ loomis trigya rigged with 12lb braid to 15lb monofilament leader. I have an all round rig for jigging, jerkbaiting and topwater, which is my curado 200hg rigged on a Shimano crucial 6’10” rigged with 15lb braid to 20lb floro leader. My heavy jigging setup is a Curado 70xg on a Shimano convergence 7’2” heavy jigging rod rigged with 40lb braid to 40lb floro leader. Thanks for the support and tight lines🎣
Hi Basti....we do target kob in fly regularly. Whilst the little ones are usually up to play on fly, it’s the bigger fish that are harder to produce on fly in our area. Species like Garrick, grunter and skipjack are more common to targeting fly in our parts....
Nic Hudson good point! I do have one that broke recently, however when fishing treble hooks, landing nets should be avoiding as a wayward net job snagging a treble has cost many a good fish. Species like Garrick and skipjack should also not be netted as the slime layer protecting them will be compromised. Playing a fish out properly, but leaving it in the water whilst handling will almost always result in a successful release. But u right, I should be using a landing net for kob. I just need to find one that can handle the abuse I give it🤦🏼♂️🎣🎣🎣
Thanks to this video I got my first kob, on paddle tail, in your home river the other day!

Been binging your videos lately. Been wanting to do a family holiday in PA again. Had massive leeries chase my plugs in the mouth, never committed :(

As a matter of interest what reels and rods do you use? I am looking for a baitcaster that will hold up well in estuary fishing

@@coastaldrift3429 Thanks very much
Just ordered the Shimano Tranx 200, should have it in time for my trip to Sedgefield next weekend 👍
you ever try some fly fishing for these guys?
