Do you know that in every major battle fought by Indian army in East Pakistan, India lost average 100 soldiers. Battle of Hilli nearly 300 Indian soldiers lost their lives. Battle of Kushtiya cost 12o soldiers. Battle of Dhalai cost 97 soldiers. Battle at Kamalpur / JaMarcus also cost 100 Indian soldiers. Indian advance was totally prevented by Pak army from east, South and North west too. We could not win Khulna, khulna port. Even Commila was in Pak hands till last moment. It was our air force which destroyed pak positions and forced them to surrender. Pak Navy made very strong defence by Navy in Bay of Bangal. Our Navy could not enter any of their ports. It was only circumstances created by our combined forces who made Gen. Niazi to surrender their forces. I was 18 years old when this was occurred. My Mama was a soldier in that war who fought from Agartala.
Any war between India does not last more than one month. Except First Kashmir war of 1948. If Gen Maneshaw has decided to attack East Pakistan in month of April 1971 as desired by Mrs Indira Gandhi, then PM. By that time, Pakistan had not built their defences along North and west borders. Rain was not likely in three. months. India would not have suffeted so heavy casualities in thewar. We could have taken Jessore and Khulna easily then. AL Badar was not formed then. Genocide of bangalis has not started then. Delayed military action by India caused thousands of Military and civilian casualities in east Pakistan then.
